Restaurant Reviews for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Rancher's Club of New Mexico

1901 University Blvd. NE
Albuquerque, NM 87102

The Ranchers Club is an experience in dining that no visitor to the Land of Enchantment should miss. The only authentic grill in New Mexico that prepares the food on a Gridiron over a variety of aromatic wood embers such as Mesquite, Hickory, Sassafras and Apple. The impeccable captain service is recognized for the attention given to every detail. An award winning wine list enhances the superb dining experience. The Ranchers Club offers all the ambiance of western elegance that New Mexico has to offer.

Review 2 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I was a club member in the 80's & 90's, and I must say that this recent visit was not @ the same level of yesteryear. The steak was served to me very rare. I informed the T.C. that I ordered Med.. When it arrived the second time, it still was more rare and it was full of fat and gristle. I would do better at Applebee's. What happened to your QC. Back in the previous years, we were always pleased with our food and of T.C. Jack !!"

"The on-line reservation system was great. I did have to change the number of guests later and that didn't go through. I called direct to fix that issue. The reminders were a good idea, also. As for dining, it could not have been better. The food was just suburb, and the service is better than anywhere in the city."

Review 10 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Excellent food and service! Well worth the money.
The only complaint was that I reserved on Jan. 22nd 2010 for Feb 13th at 6pm and when we arrived to the hosts table she declared that she could not accomadate our request for a booth table setting. After a 5min wait, she did some how find a table. I received a phone call on Feb. 11th from the restaurant confirming my reservation and request.
My party and myself were very annoyed with the attitude the hosts had that evening. We were not formally greeted and I had to speak up and declare my name and reservation for her to get us seated. We also were ignored by the hosts when we left. A simple "Thank You" would have been nice.

Review 12 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"02/22/2010
We visited the Rancher's Club on 02/19. I had heard good things about them from friends who dine there often. I don't know if they have changed hands or what, but we were very disappointed. Let me start by saying the service was great! We were seated quickly,in a quiet area, and immediately greated by our Captain and his crew. We were told that the ala carte sides were plentiful & would easily serve 2 people. We tried the stuffed mushrooms from the sides menu for an appetizer. All 4 were good but only about 1 1/2" diameter. We ordered the rum sweet potatoes & the creamed spinach to go with our 32 oz Porterhouse for 2. It was VERY rare, not tender, & small! The sides were about 1/2 cup w/no flavour! Bummer! We won't return!

Review 14 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"I was very disappointed with my food... it was the worst crab legs I have ever had at any restaurant! Because of the restaurant's rating, I was sure that crabs would be perfect, but they tasted dry, looked old and they were not even cracked. You would think that a restaurant of this caliber would have split them in half for the diners. Two other diners were not impressed with their meals... although the buffalo tenderloin dish was excellent for the 4th person. Unfortunately, the best thing about our meal was the salad & dessert - wonderful Godiva chocolate concoction. The wine list was good, but quite expensive. $400.00 for this meal for four was just not worth it!!"

Review 15 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"New to Albuquerque, we heard high praises for the Ranchers Club. Our experience was good, but certainly not memorable or exceptional.
The greeter didn't smile or welcome us, the bartender was distracted and had to ask me the ingredients to my requested cocktail. I had to wait for a clean glass to be washed. The bar had black duct tape on the rail. The back bar was cluttered. When the greeter came to get us, she didn't wait for my husband to clear the drink tab and he wandered the restaurant looking for me .
Service was perfunctory. The wedge salad, nothing special. We both ordered the rib eye steaks, no sauces were offered or suggested. The steaks were delicious.
Overall, good but not great. Doubtful I would return.

Review 18 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I was jazzed about going to this place, because I had a fuzzy memory of going there a dozen years ago, and really enjoying myself (albeit $100 poorer). So I surprised my wife for our wedding anniversary, expecting it to be a real treat. The restaurant is very lovely & romantic. We were seated quickly and courteously. A couple of different servers came by in the first few minutes...impressive. My wife ordered the $7 mixed salad and a beer, followed by $23 prawns, while I had the $44 ribeye steak with the $5 baked potato & some iced tea. When the food came out, the presentation was lovely. Then the trouble began...my wife had specifically ordered her prawns without salt, as she is sensitive to it. I enjoy salt, but these had so much.."

Review 22 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Our experience started off on the right foot but slowly worked its way downhill: We were seated promptly and our "Captain" soon arrived and introduced himself. From this point forward the restaurant seemed to be disjointed and not well guided. Our Captain checked on us periodically and took our order, he even was excellent in regards to the wine list, but the rest of the service came randomly from a wide variety of different servers. Past fine dining experiences have had a Captain and 3 or 4 dedicated servers. Here I don't think we saw the same person twice. When the food arrived it was as if each plate came out of the kitchen a separate times. My wife's dinner was slightly warm. and mine was hot. The sides were delived 5 min later..."

"We had a wonderful evnening and meal at the Ranchers Club on New Years Eve. It was a celebration of my husband's birthday. We have dined there on his birthday for the past 3 years. We brought some friends this time, they enjoyed it as well. The food and service were superb. Thank your waiters for serving my husband a wonderful desert for his birthday.

We did have a little glitch at the beginning. The lady at the desk had a difficult time finding my name on the reservation at first, and I had requested our favorite table in the left back corner....she tried to seat us in the front, but I refused to sit there. The manager, Mr Garcia, checked again and did seat us at the table I had requested on my online reservation. Phyllis Gorman

Great food, good wine list, great service, wonderful decor. Only drawback was the screeching singer in the lounge who was TRYING to sing scat (the genre of music that uses no words, just noises ala Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong). She was so bad that we laughed hard about it, along with some of the staff. OVERALL recommended, but ask for a seat way far away from where the redhead is screeching her vocals -- or call ahead and hope there is different entertainment around."

Review 35 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We knew that this restaurant was in a hotel but decided to try it after reading some good reviews. The excellent decore is quite traditional as long as you don't object to animal heads hanging on the wall. We started with the ceasar salad, made at the table, but the waiter used too much olive oil making the dressing. The house made bread alone may be worth a trip. The filets we ordered were the best cooked beef we've ever had! The peppercorn sauce was excellent but the mushroom sauce was too salty. For a side we had the stuffed mushrooms which were quite good. We passed on desert. Service was timely but our waiter seemed a bit aloof. This is defintely a local gem."

"This reliable western establishment does exceptional cuisine with steaks, of course, but also perfectly cooked fresh seafood such as salmon and Chilean sea bass. Service is a great team effort and prompt, knowledgeable about the menu items and always courteous. Best in Albuquerque!"

"The ambiance is old style sophisticated and very quiet. The food is exquisite, but pricey. Vegetables must be ordered separately from the entree and cost $8-9 each. Service was excellent."

Review 41 for Rancher's Club of New Mexico

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"With 20+ years experience coming to the Rancher's Club, I think R.C has gone from A+ to B+. It's still an excellent restaurant, particularly for steak, but the price point is so very high that they MUST stay with an A game because ABQ has other options for "A- to B+" restaurants. A recent visit found steak that was not particularly flavorful. Woods used in smoking and special sauces are no longer featured. A lobster bisque that was too much like a gumbo. Creamed spinach that was watery, overly-garlicy, and without nutmeg. The menu had a grease spot, and it took two remindings to get a beverage. Very nice staff, unbeatable atmosphere. A "B+" experience...but be prepared to pay A+ prices."
