"We had a business lunch here and loved it - the food was fantastic, the seats are comfortable, and the decor and ambience just right. Service was very efficient and friendly. It has the feel of an English country pub but the food is more upmarket, of course. Really a great venue for just about anything, and one of the few gems in this part of the city."

"Our food was delicious and beautifully presented. We all liked our meals. Service was excellent until we ordered coffee, which I had told my dining companions was excellent. Cups were delivered but no coffee for an inexplicably long time. We flagged a staff member who went to check on it and as she left, our waiter delivered the french press coffee. They apologized for the delay and comped us the coffee. I'll still lunch here - it's great food - though I'll speak up earlier should there by any future delays."

"Highly recommended and anticipated. Crabby waiter
Was annoying. Traveling with my daughter, we often split dishes so facilitate
Tasting different dishes while keeping volume reasonable. If waiters get annoyed
Because it affects their tip then they should think twice. It affects the restaurant
As a whole and influences further recommendations."

"Food was wonderful! Everything tasted great, except the fried chicken had too much rosemary for my taste. Only complaint would be the service. It was not bad, just not friendly at all. And we could tell we were being rushed. Not because they were closing, as they just seated a large group before we ordered dessert, but because our server wanted to get out of there. We were looking forward to a relaxing night, without feeling hurried. Unfortunately, guests looking to have a slower paced meal was not in our servers plans. Wham bam thank you ma'am kind of night for us."

"We found this restaurant on SF's 38 places to eat. Wonderful choices. We ordered the poutine, fried chicken, veal schnitzel, grilled asparagus, and baked macaroni and cheese. I loved all the dishes except the fried chicken. There was some herb that was overpowering. I read about it from other diners in reviews of this restaurant. We plan to return to try other dishes.
As far as the service, the front staff could be more attentive, and the waitstaff could make us feel like they wanted us there."

"This place is amazing. My fiance and I went here on our engagement night. They took extra care of us once they found out it was a special occasion. This last time we went, it was just for a good meal. The manager came over to check on our meal and remembered us from our engagement evening. This is 3 months after the engagement. He was very gracious and congratulated us once again. Now that is service! This is such a great restaurant from the service to the food. Don't miss out."

"We recently dined at Wayfare Tavern and had a very enjoyable evening. The food was quite good (expecially the butter lettuce salad with avocado and grapefruit and a pretty terrific Mac and Cheese (if you are into that sort of thing)). Our table was upstairs and we would have preferred being downstairs. It is a little closed-in upstairs but not too noisy. All in all a very nice experience."

"We did not like it that much. The crispy potatos were not crispy at all, and had little taste. The mussels were prepared in a funny way. The best thing was the chicken, which my husband liked. The music was a little too much."

"Being somewhat of a "foodie" I wanted to try Tyler's restaurant. Dined there the evening of 5/6/13. The staff was very accommodating, especially with regard to food allergies. LOVED the popovers -- a nice alternative to a heavy roll or bread. I ordered the filet (medium rare). The first medallion was slightly tough, but the other two were very well prepared/cooked and were very tender. Had the crispy brussel sprouts. Although good, they were slightly burned."

"I love this restaurant. I love Tyler Florence. Last time I came here, I got to meet him on my birthday, which made it a pretty special evening. We also had a booth looking right onto the kitchen, which made it even better. This time, only two of us, we were seated upstairs (bummer). Part of the exciting experience is watching the kitchen, and also, seeing Tyler Florence's beauty in the flesh. Wayfare Tavern isn't as special when you're sitting upstairs, but the oxtail gravy on the poutine, and the burger with brie, makes it all worth it. And the Elk Cove Pinot Gris is just to die for. I will keep coming back, but hopefully next time I'll be sitting where the real action is."

"Hostess Stephanie was the high point of the evening. She personified everything you would expect in greeting and seating guests. Unfortunately, our birthday dinner went down hill from there. Our party of four raved about the deviled eggs appetizer but the salad lettuce had been sitting out too long as it had lost crispness. The signature dish fried chicken was very good but not worth the high price. However, the sauteed Brussels sprouts were to die for. Dessert was fair to average.
All in all, we should have just ordered more deviled eggs and Brussels for dinner instead of entrees."

"Our server Tom provided yeoman like service. We were warmly greeted by Adam, I think he was a manager and the hosted. Very pleasant and hospitable. She seated us quickly. Adam can by to acknowledge us and thank us for dining with them. Kyle was proactive as he walked by and said hello and if we needed anything. Furthermore, told us about the 3rd floor space and banquet space they had that we had no idea about. We exchanged cards for referrals. Tom, our server along with the man that offered us the pop-overs and the gentleman that poured our water was fantastic. One thing, the man who brought over our wine was not to energetic, nor did he really say anything. Just put our glasses of wine down and that was it."

"Either way you cut it (power lunching or just lunching with friends), Wayfare Tavern hits the spot for anyone looking for a modern, stylish but understatedly so, lunch spot downtown. From the moment you walk in, you sense that this is a place of serious food, but not overly serious attitudes. Wine list is solid, and our waiter was clearly well-educated in making just the right suggestions for both drink and meal. The lunch menu made it difficult to pick just one thing, everything sounds so bone-achingly good. Steak tartare and butter lettuce salad are not to be missed, and the Rose (waiter's pick) was perfectly crisp and refreshing. I will be coming back here again... and again."

"The staff was pleasant and attentive, refilling our water and replenishing our bread. (Which are fantastic!) My guest and I ordered the Organic Fried Chicken and it was delicious! "Our server did an amazing job, was clearly a professional. The restaurant was impeccably clean. Ambiance was very cool - kind of an upscale hunting lodge/barbary coast thing going on. Pop-overs were delicious. We shared two appetizers, two entrees, a side, and a dessert:

Poutine - Hearty, tasted very much like a beef stew.
Kobe Tartare - AMAZING. Stand-out dish of the evening.
Sweet Pea Ravioli - Delicious! Tasted like eating a garden, if that makes any sense.
Fried Chicken - Lives up to its reputation. Juicy, crispy. The fresh herbs in the batter added a very unique touch.
Brussels Sprouts - Perfect. Exactly what we TRY to achieve whenever we make them at home.
Mint Chocolate Chip - Outstanding. Fresh mint ice cream."

"I was very disappointed with the service. Tables around us that were seated after we were received their orders before us, and many of the items they ordered were the exact same as we ordered. I asked for a black napkin and was told they had them but then I never got one. Our waiter kept saying things like"great choice" to everything we ordered. Sounded very fake. The food was good. But some of the items arrived at the table cold. I also noticed other tables talking about their food being cold.

The upstairs rest room is tucked into a corner near a small bar, no way to stand in line and there is always a line. The faucet came unscrewed in my hands and the trash was overflowing. I should not have expected so much from a TV host."

"Brought a client to Wayfare for lunch and it was good. I have had their burger before and thought it was very good, however, this time I had the Sweet Pea Ravioli and it was okay. When the plate was brought out to me, I couldn’t even see that it was what I had ordered. The 4 ravioli were buried under veggies and not very filling. The taste was okay but I would not order again. A co-worker had their Yellowtail fish sandwich and said that it was one of the best fish sandwiches he has had. So with that in mind, I am sure if he was completing the review his rating would be much different, however, this is my overall experience."

"My colleagues and I had a very nice lunch at the Wayfare Tavern. Everything that we tried was very good. I especially liked the yellowtail sandwich that I had. It was cooked perfectly and it was served with a tasty, slightly spicy aioli that complemented the fish nicely. We enjoyed the deviled egg appetizer that was recommended by several friends that had dined there previously. They were as delicious as advertised.

My only complaint was from the very beginning it was apparent that the restaurant was busy and as a result service seemed a bit rushed. Our server attempted to hurry us along , uncomfortably so, from the beginning. I appreciate wine refills but not at the rate that our glasses were topped off. Everything was hurried."

"We were late due to traffic, and still got seated. The service and food was amazing. We ordered the steamed mussels as starters, main course we ordered the filet and ribeye. As for dessert we ordered the panna cotta. All four dishes was really good and cooked perfectly, it is definitely a place we will visit again."

"Food was very disappointing. Portions were very small and both meals were terribly over-salted. Worst meal we had in San Francisco. The House and Kokkari are a much better choice."

"In my view the restaurant deserves 4 full stars for the food, service, ambiance and pricing. One star goes off due to: 1) the salt content should be significantly reduced in some dishes (Black Cod in particular) considering the growing awareness of grave health risks;2) brioches served in lieu of bread appear to be out of place at dinner time;3) the volume of music should be lower to facilitate communication at the table;4) patrons should be warned that street parking is not free on Sundays in this area of San Francisco.The above mentioned drawbacks do not significantly diminish the overall positive impression of the eatery and I certainly will return myself and will recommend it to friends."

"Great food....enjoyed every bit of it, be it the Deviled eggs which had a mix of spices in it, giving it almost a 'chaat' like flavor or the Mussels in the buttered broth.

The butchers filet, with grass fed beef also was good as was the dessert which was thoroughly refreshing and acted like a palate cleanser....Coconut Pannacotta.

Would be going back for sure."

"Beyond drinks, Tyler and his crew know how to make you feel welcomed with their unlimited warm popovers on your bread plate (my first time having a popover – I think I’m addicted)! Everything was well thought out. The lunch menu featured a lot of California ingredients like fresh dungeness crab, grass fed beef from local farms. His most popular dish is his fried chicken with a buttermilk brine. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Louie, a simple salad wedge with chunks of crab meat and bacon. Siddharth ordered Florence’s Le Grand burger with smoked bacon and brie which appeared to be a mountain on his plate. Although it’s difficult to really make a burger more perfect than it already is, this burger was definitely grand."

"We love the restaurant. The food is amazing and the service wonderful. I'm always so pleased to see the managers/owners coming to the tables to pour water and refresh our drinks. Overall I love the decor but on this visit we were seated upstairs and all the tables were so close together. I felt uncomfortable having a conversation with my husband. The couple at the next table started telling us where we had to visit in Chicago. Also the server had a hard time getting around to the side of our table. I had people reaching over me to pour water."

"Wayfare Tavern lives up to its billing -- American dishes elevated. We ordered off the ala carte menu. Portions are large. This is certainly not a problem or a criticism for myself, but the appetizers and entrée could have been split for my two co-diners. Each dish is well executed. The dining experience also lives up to billing -- the boisterous crowd fits a upscale tavern. An overall excellent experience."

"We were so excited to eat at Tyler Florence's place. Unfortunately, it did not live up to its reputation. Food was ordinary at best. The only shining stars were the ceased salad which was unique and good (but not great) and or server Katy who was great. It was cool to see in the kitchen but again nothing special. The deviled eggs everyone reviews were good but way too much cumin, in fact that was the only flavor."
