"This place used to be the premier dining spot in GR. I took my family before a sporting event recently and was disappointed overall. Service was OK but not up to par with local competition and the food was nothing special. Decor was outdated and our dinner was overpriced. Unfortunately it was likely our last visit."

"This was my 39th wedding anniversary and I requested a good table in my reservation – preferably with a table overlooking the river. When we arrived, I reminded them it was our anniversary and that I had a reservation. The gentlemen, however, who appeared to be in charge of the seating arrangement specified a table that was on top of a double table with a pre-bridal party with 10 female friends. We were also right on top of another table with a foursome. He took no effort to locate us at a better table for our anniversary nor did it appear any efforts were made by the restaurant to reserve us a good table. We requested to be moved to an open booth in a quieter area which was made.

"I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Food was extremely overpriced, overcooked, and not good at all. There was hardly anyone there and yet we were there for nearly an hour and a half for dinner and didn't stay for dessert. Incredibly slow service. And...it happened to be my birthday and my wife arranged for them to do something special for my birthday, which they completely ignored and did nothing.
Very disappointing."

"Food was ok. Not really worth the price. Nice menu and options. Salmon was overdone, wifes scallops were mediocre. Best part of meal was mussel app. Overall not bad but not great. "We had Salmon and Shrimp and Salmon Rockefeller which were delicious! For dessert we had crème brulee and white chocolate cheesecake with berries which were out of this world! And to top if off the view of the river at sunset was wonderful! We really enjoy going to Charlies Crab in GR for special occasions. Our server , Dallas, was helpful and attentive so we had a good experience."

"We were excited to experience the Charley's Crab brunch our memories provided from years before. Unfortunately, our memories were either sweet dreams or a day gone by.
The food was the let down. Inadequate selection, bland, dry/over cooked main dishes (pork loin and catfish covered with uncooked hash browns).
The staff seemed to be trying their best although must have been understaffed. The items on the buffet were often empty, our server did her best to bring us items from the kitchen.
We won't chance another special occasion meal on Charley's Crab again."

"We have heard great things about Charley's Crab and my mother and I have never been, so for Mother's Day we went for a Sat night dinner. The inside was a bit different then I expected but very nice. Everything is open so if you looking for privacy they don't have it. The Room had very nice decor. The food was good but for the price you pay I didn't think it was that "good". The creme brule was fantastic!!! Over all I give it a good rating. I wish I could give it more but was hoping for more. The staff was nice but forgetful."

"Our server was not terribly attentive. Considering that there were not a lot of tables that were full, there was no good excuse for this. 2 of 7 people at our table received cold dinners (both had filets). My potatoes had obviously been on the plate for a while before they were served. 5 of 7 people at our table were satisfied. This was a business dinner with people from The Netherlands. We needed to have great service and meals."

"Charley's Crab, being a Grand Rapids Landmark, seemed like a good place to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, we both enjoyed the Surf n Turf, it just wasn't worth the $180 that we spent on it (including bottle of wine). The lobster was about the same quality (or even slightly less) that is found at Red Lobster. The steak, while tender and tasty, wasn't anything special either. We found our waiter ok, although unprofessional, and not very concerned with food presentation. The menus were pretty cool-since we had a reservation and I put the occasion in the reservation, they printed custom menus for us. Overall, not bad, just not remarkable, and very overpriced. Will not repeat."

"My wife and a group of her friends were planning a day in Grand Rapids that was to include lunch at Charley's. She did not know exactly where the restaurant was or how to get there, so we took an "advance scouting" trip to find it and have dinner. We were there on a Sunday evening so the restaurant was not busy which we appreciated. The food was outstanding in every way, and the waiters, waitresses and all the staff were efficient and friendly but not obtrusive. They turned our scouting adventure into a great evening and a great dinner--so much so that we already have return reservations."

"Fresh foods could have been fresher- fruits and vegetables not crisp and class A (not the first time). Putting meat- bacon- in all the hot vegetable dishes seems unnecessary. Love the creme brulee. Miss the key lime pie!"

"We attended an Easter Brunch with several members of our family, young and old. There was something for everyone. The food on the salad table was fresh and delicious. The sushi was inviting. The Charley's Crab rolls are to die for! While I passed on the breakfast food, all of the dinner food was hot from the steam tables. The carving table meats were done to perfection. The dessert table had a very nice variety of sweets and each of them that we sampled were delectable. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion and/or holiday brunch."

"Enjoyed our dining experience there. It was extremely busy as we dined for Easter Sunday. I only wished we were allowed to order off of the menu as well. My Mom recently had a stroke and she could not walk and hold her plate back and forth to the Buffett."

"We were seated immediately, and service was attentive and quick. Food was great, as usual. My Mom just raved about how they cooked her green bean veggie medley. One kind of annoying thing. They were not busy, yet they sat us right next to two other tables of people. The one couple was very LOUD, so we had to listen to their entire conversation our entire meal. Other than that, great experience."

"The variety of food was nice and the omelete chef was great. The Eggs Benedict were mediocre at best and the shrimp was very disappointing (not completely skinned)...I've never left shrimp unfinished on my plate before, but had to in this case. The coffee was excellent and the service was spot on."
