"Outstanding food, cooked perfectly to order. I had a filet medium rare that actually came up medium rare! Wine list is extensive with many moderately priced options. If you buy a bottle and take the majority of it home, you may just be charged the retail price. Service was attentive and very helpful with suggestions. Would definitely go back next time I have something to celebrate!"

"We have been to Paon on several previous occasions. All have been exceptional. If this would have been our first time to Paon, it would not be on our "must return" list. It would be on the "maybe". Service was very good as well as the ambience. The food, I had scallops which were sort of bland along with the vegetable ragout. One of our guests had the cervina venison. The plate appeared with two small (even for the cervina) chops. Our guest ordered these with specific instructions to err on the rare side. They were medium. This was on a Monday night and we had two special guests with us. A likely combination for the experience not to be as we have previously experienced. I don't think Paon will be a new choice for their dining. Too bad."

"2nd time at this restaurant and we were equally as delighted. Very good food, great service, wonderful neighborhood gem. The pheasant was excellent over a bed of swiss chard and risotto with carrots and peas. Other entree was rack of lamb cooked to perfection.

"Picked Paon as our dinner spot on a quick one night getaway. To say we were impressed is an understatement. From the greeting at the door and confirmation of our Open Table reservation thru our discussions over menu items and suitable wines we were surprised by the attention to detail shown. The wine list is outstanding and the food was super. The pheasant was perfectly cooked and the short ribs were so tender the meat seemed to melt in your mouth. We will definetly eat at Paon the next time we are in Carlsbad, CA."

"Went with a group of four and we sat outside on the patio. Was perfect with the heaters on. We shared appetizers and then got our own entrees. Everyone raved about how delicious everything was. The waiters were attentive and kept our glasses full.

"Had lunch here and it was so delicious that we retuned for dinner within the week. Food is fantastic and plentiful. Restaurant has wonderful menu without being pretentious. Desserts are creative and well worth the calories (you can have fresh fruit if you prefer). Wait staff is charming and helpful. Chef is more than willing to make adjustments for your palate...and is very creative. Bottom line, can't wait to return. Also looking forward to summer to take advantage of their beautiful outside dinning area."

Overall, this was a 3 star restaurant with 4 star prices.
Service was very good, and excellent recommendations on wines by the glass.
I had a pheasant on truffle risotto. The risotto was superb (some of the best I've had) but the pheasant was boring. At $34 I was expecting something more interesting than the equivalent of a roasted chicken breast.
The wife had the flat iron pork. Again the side was superb. The Spatzele was interesting, novel and delicious. However the pork was overcooked, tough and boring.
Appetizers, soup, desert were all pretty good but nothing to write home about.
Overall, for $150 we could have had a much better meal elsewhere."

"The rack of lamb, ordered medium rare, was served rare. The dinner, our anniversary, was spoiled by a table of six next to us. The noise, particularly from one man, was deafening. We considered leaving. I have been to Paon before and this had not been a problem so I will go back on special occasions and make sure to order my meat "medium"."

"We come here mostly for personal special events and go all out for ourselves -- champagne when we arrive, then wine, appetizers, soup or salad, entree. We spend a lot of money but it is worth it. Our waiter kept an unobtrusive eye on our progression through the meal and brought us each course right when we needed it. The staff works as a team to keep everything running smoothly. We feel pampered and special, which is why we keep coming back. If you can, sit on the patio -- it is always warm enough and the plants and fountain make it romantic."

"With a limited number of choices for a quiet dinner in No County Coastal I was looking forward to the evening. Service was great, the food while far better than the normal fare around the area, it was nothing exciting. Ambiance could have mad a step up with table cloths, especially at that price range.
Whiole it was too early in the season to eat outside I would like to come back later and try again, especially with the nice patio and not on the main street"

"Great french cuisine + outstanding service = PAON restaurant is such a wonderful and friendly place. Best bartenders I have meet. Everyone has a smile and you can clearly see they enjoy their establishment. Another plus of PAON is that they have a separate wine bar attached to the restaurant. I will be making this place one of my usual spots!
