Floriana offers authentic Italian recipes with handmade pastas in the most comfortable of environments. Located in DC's Dupont Circle neighborhood, in a historic brick stone row house that has been converted into a cozy restaurant, but hasn't given up the feel of coming over to someones home for dinner. "Outdoor dining on a fabulous Saturday night. Crostini trio was superb, as were the mussels and the lasagna. Our indifferent waiter, Carlos, was the only sticking point. It took forever to get a menu and he anticipated nothing without being asked. It didn't seem like other tables around us with other waitstaff suffered the same fate. The dessert menu is standard fare that did not live up to the imagination of the appys and mains. With that exception, it was a great place to dine."

I had the Gnocchi and will come back every time I am in DC. It was fantastic. Others with me loved the lasagna (house specialty) too.
JB was great, humorous and attentive.

"So - someone recommended me to try Floriana...and I ended up eating here twice in one week. The first visit I had the Braised Lamb Risotto (OMG - Life changing!) and the second time I had the Lasagne. Both times the food was phenominal, atmosphere was energetic, and the service is spot on. I'll be coming back here...a LOT!"

"Our party of six at Floriana last Saturday night, a retirement celebration, became a matter of heat endurance, because the air conditioning had broken on a 90+ degree day, and the windows upstairs were painted shut. We asked for, and were given, a fan, but the outlet was faulty and the fan regularly stopped, finally giving out entirely, before dessert. The waiter was helpful and provided some rather minimal discounts on the check. However, the manager should have called us beforehand about the heat. Especially since one in our party was 8 months pregnant, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere, and would have been grateful to Floriana for their consideration. Instead, after a long, sweaty meal, no one in the party is eager to return."

"Fabulous meal at Floriana Restaurant. With friends, we enjoyed the bar, mussels bruschetta, calamari, and our entrees were all great! Veal Canneloni, farfalle with asparagus cream, shrimp and tomatoes, and salmon served over tossed microgreens. And the cannolis were delicious and crisp."

"Fourth time here and always a winner. What is a wonderful surprise is how consistently excellent the service is. Each time we have had a different server and each has been exceptional. There are two new summer items on the menu. The new salmon is superb. My choice of the farfalle was a real disappointment (the pancetta must make the dish extremely salty); it's not a healthy choice only comfort food. The half-price wine option on Wednesday is a can't lose proposition!"

"We sat outside on the small, scenic patio that offers a view of an attractive, active - but not too loud - street. Had terrific, attentive service, even when the place got busy later in the evening. Home-made pasta is one of the specialties, so we shared a well seasoned house salad, and ordered the veal cannelloni and the lasagna. Cannelloni was tender and nicely flavored. The lasagna, however, was the star. It's in a class by itself - almost unrelated to the typical American/Italian lasagna. Subtle, tender, rich - amazing! Also note that Wednesdays and Sundays are half-price bottled wine nights. What a deal!"

"This was our third trip to Floriana. My food was exceptional this time around (bruschetta mussels and sausage-chicken). Our waitress was sweet and efficient, though her English was a bit of a challenge. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start. Although we had requested, a week prior to the engagement, a table at the window, the tables were already taken; we had requested a particular server and it, too, was not granted, with no explanation given. It took about 15-20 minutes for any kind of rhythm to kick in (we sat with water but no bread/tapanade for that whole time). The salmon special - tasty - for my friend was paltry in size, giving the wrong impression. It was nice to see a special available - keep it up and add a few more!"

"The calamari appetizer was very good and did not need the mayonnaisy dunking sauce. Both my appetizer and my date's were, if anything, too large! My tortelloni was good but was supposed to be stuffed with filet mignon and honestly the stuffing tasted very little like beef. The wine selection by the glass was very good. Ambiance was charming. "It's been around for a decade plus, but Floriana can still compete with the high-end Italian restaurants in the city. My wife and I recently ate dinner at Fiola and then were able to come to Floriana for the first time not much later. With the advantage of short time in between to compare, Floriana was much better. The pasta was better cooked and the sauces more flavorful. We didn't eat any of the non-pasta entrees, but just comparing the pastas Floriana wins hands down. Combine that with the incredibly pesto for the bread and Floriana is simply a incredibly well-executed fine Italian dining establishment. We will be back time and time again!"

"This was the second time we were at Floriana's. But this time we took advantage of the Wednesday half-price wines promotion. Great deal and wonderful wines! The food was again really excellent (although the tuna, while ample and succulent, needs a better more tasty accompaniment: it is like tuna sitting in grass). A real highlight was our server (Barrett) who was charming, unintrusive, savvy and made very good suggestions. He's a winner! Suggestion: after two visits, and having chosen the things most attractive on the menu, it might be wise, to continue to attract us, to have a series of specials for returnees like us. This way, we might not run out of things to taste and enjoy. Great place."

"The food here was absolutely amazing. It was our first time in DC and we were celebrating my husband's birthday. They gave us a birthday dessert to share even though we were stuffed after the amazing entrees we had. I had the swordfish while my husband had the shrimp and scallop risotto. Both were delicious as was the Caprese salad we started with... The service was a little slow for a Thursday night, but the ambiance and food was so good, it made up for it!"

"I chose Floriana because of the menu, and I'll return again and again for the outstanding and personable service. The meal was lovely and delicious from the welcoming Prosseco to dessert. "Excellent food, excellent service: this was a nice experience. The wine list is a little small, given the prices (but this is compensated by Wednesday and Friday half-price days on the wine). The interior looks a little worn and the vaunted patio is sandwiched onto the sidewalk, looking less than appealing. But we would definitely go back!"

"We had a group of six for my dad's 60th birthday. I have been to Floriana before on several occasions and the service and food were always great! While the food was just as great this time, the service was lacking. I'm not sure if it's because of the automatic 20% gratuity added for groups of five or more, but it seemed like we had several waiters over the course of the meal and we had to ask on several occasions for our waiter. The service just wasn't what I expected from Floriana. I will probably return here because the food is great, but just be warned that it may not be the best place to take a group of five or more. Stick with four :)"

"I really enjoy Floriana however they are frequently out of their most popular dishes. I was there on Saturday evening at 6pm, dinner rush is just starting and they were out of 8 items. The menu only has about 30-40 items so it's really a problem when they're out of that many choices.
They have a decent wine list and the atmosphere is lively and cute."

"Overall was not very impressed with the quality of the brunch food. With the prices they charge I think the dishes could be a little more robust in flavor. The bottomless deal isn't bad, but again for the entree prices makes for a very pricey brunch that didn't seem worth it. The service was very good, and I liked the atmosphere, may try again for dinner."

"The food was excellent. The service, though, was rushed and disorganized. Our server brought us to a table missing a chair and removed one from the next table. When that table was seated, the server had to carry a chair through the crowded room, and the chair almost hit a ceiling fan. When our food arrived, one dish (mine) came several minutes late and was not the correct order. It took several minutes after that for the proper one to arrive. Though we did not notice it until the next day, the incorrect dish I was brought was included on the bill (four entrees for three people) and it took a few phone calls to have it removed. Overall: kitchen is great, front-of-house either understaffed or poorly staffed."

"My friend had come to visit DC for a week after a long time. I had heard about Floriana from several friends but I hadn't had the chance of going there yet. It was a great choice. The food was delicious. The service was top class, and paid special attention to my friend's needs, making her feel special. We had a great time and stayed there for almost 3 hours. I'm definitely coming back"

"Floriana is reliably outstanding. The menu doesn't change much, which is good, because everything is rich and delicious and worthy of being enjoyed again and again. The service is always professional -- attentive and understated. On this particular special occasion (a birthday), not only was a complimentary dessert brought to the table, but also a handwritten birthday card from the restaurant -- a very nice, and classy, personal touch. On a block of restaurants that, at best, are just okay, Floriana always shines as a "special date" good dining experience!"
