"My only regret during brunch was that we had never tried Vin Rouge before. We thought it would be too pricey, and too snobish. We were wrong on both counts. The service was outstanding, and the food delicious and reasonably priced. Our food arrived more quickly than expected, which meant we had time for dessert. The creme brulee was a real treat."

"Great food, reasonable prices and to top it off the one of the nicest Spring days for a delicious Mothers Day brunch. The Crocque Monsieur or Madame with an egg (poached) on top which I enjoyed was perfect on a sunny Sunday. The fresh fruit was seasonally superb and a great way to start. The Mother of my three wonderful children enjoyed the Hamd and Gruyere Crepe with Mornay sauce. As always, the pommes frites are some of the best in the area, rivaling Paris or Brussels."

"Always a fave for brunch, the moules were especially tasty on Mother's Day! The sauce was perfect, and our waiter kept the crispy baquette basket full for us when I mentioned that I prefer using their delicious crunchy bread to the frites (although they really do have great french fries!)"

"After being seated, we had to wait quite a while for a server to notice us--in fact I had to flag someone down just to order drinks before dinner. Then there was a mix-up as to who our actual server was. But the food came out well-paced, hot, and delicious--the salmon with lentils was just outstanding. Had the service been more attentive, we would have enjoyed our meal so much more."

"Prompt and attentive service, excellent food, though I some French bistro classics like coq au vin were not on the menu. The dining rooms seem a little crowded with a few too many tables, though perhaps this is part of the ambience. This was a first time visit, and I expect to be coming back, even though I live 75 miles away."

"I don't remember when I discovered Vin Rouge, but I think it was somewhere around 2008 and I have been back many times. Put simply: it is just wonderful. I have spent a lot of time in France, and every time I return to Vin Rouge, I am back in rural France again. Last Saturday was no exception. If you don't visit Vin Rouge at least once, you have no-one to blame but yourself. I retuned last Saturday and yet again enjoyed the delightful ambience and fabulous food."

"Outstanding in every category! My recent experience reaffirmed why I recommend this gem to anyone who asks for fine dining options in the Triangle. I'm always impressed how the sophisticated, casual french bistro fare at Vin Rouge rivals the quality of the most upscale restaurants in the area. Two days after eating here, I still find myself thinking about the lentils in the salmon entree...creamy and perfectly-seasoned with the sauteed lardons without being too forward and decadent. The knowledgeable wait staff, exceptional service, and romantic ambiance all conspire to present a five-star dining experience you will no doubt enjoy at Vin Rouge."

"Vin Rouge is consistent in terms of food quality: the menu's never changes, the decor remains rustic french, and the service is still adequate. I ordered the Boullabaisse. It was neither the best nor the worst Boullabaisse I've ever had. The stock was made from lobster shells and reminded me more of lobster bisque than of seafood stew. It was heavily flavored with thyme and had a thick layer of olive oil floating on top. If the chef had used more moderation in the level of oil the boullabaisse would have been better. My friend ordered the NY Strip medium. It came medium rare and we had to return it.

"This is our favorite restaurant in Durham for special occasions. We ate there for our 5th anniversary. The caramelized onion and goat cheese tart and dijon mustard mussels are absolutely mouthwatering, and the dark chocolate mousse is divine. They have a great French wine list. The restaurant is both eclectic and romantic. The inside is beautiful, especially the backroom, and on a nice evening, it is enjoyable to sit on their nicely decorated patio. We have had great service most times we have eaten there. My one main critique of the restaurant is its choice of music (usually 70s-90s funky dance music), which doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the atmosphere."

There were other items on the menu that looked appealing to us, so we will have to return! Next time, we may very well include our teenagers because the menu appeals to a broad audience.

"This was our first time trying out Vin Rouge after many years of wanting to go. The ambiance, decorations, and overall feeling was superb. A very sexy french restaurant. My mother and I went before a concert at DPAC and our server was very helpful and made sure that we were done with our meal in a timely manner without rushing us, which I appreciated very much. The wine list is extensive and impressive, the wine we chose complemented our dishes perfectly. Us foodies cannot wait to go back!"

"Excellent food! We had not been in ~2 years and returned. The special entree/dish was striped bass, it was so delicious! Great crowd as the DPAC had a film festival going on so very busy. The service was very good even on a packed evening. The onion tart was very good and we shared as an appetizer as well as we split the lemon tart for desert and we never order desert."

"Very romantic. Excellent food and the price was reasonable for the overall quality of the place. I had the trout with the almond sauce, and I loved it! The service was really kind and helpful too. I would definitely recommend it for special ocassions!"

"Vin Rouge is a remarkably good French restaurant. The wine list is impressive and the service is attentive. It is also the best fresh seafood restaurant in Durham. They offer a wide and tasty selection of oysters on the half shell and fantastic mussels. We love the place."

"This is an excellent restaurant. Even when busy, service is flawless. The food is invariably delicious. I've found it is well worth asking about the size of the dishes, since some of the appetizers can be surprisingly filling. The chocolate mousse is definitely worth saving up calories for. This has become our go-to place for special occasions."

"Good food. Nice service. But poor indoor ventilation. We got there six PM little later after the start of the dinner service. By the middle of the dinner, our eyes started hurting due to heavy smoke from the kitchen. Good food, nice service, but it will be a while before I think about going there again."

"Excellent experience. Prior to going, I requested a vase of flowers for our table - and, sure enough, a beautiful vase of flowers was awaiting us on a table in a nice, quiet spot in the restaurant. The food was excellent, as usual (we've been there before) - escargots and shrimp for appetizers, and main courses of the flounder special (made to order with substitutions because of food allergies - and WELL-made, at that) and the Trout Amandine (absolutely wonderful). For dessert - get the apple bread pudding (it was better, IMHO, than the chocolate mousse - and that's saying a *lot*, because the mousse was delicious).
We were there early-ish (6:30); having been there early and late, I recommend early. And we'll definitely be back!"
