Nobu Next Door, which opened as an extension of the original Nobu, has now taken on a life of its own. Opened in 1998 due to high demand, its menu mirrors the original Nobu and offers Nobu To Go. With its late night dining and music, Nobu Next Door tends to draw a more spirited crowd. The restaurant satisfies those spontaneous diners who need the Nobu fix, but didn’t plan ahead, by offering first come, first serve table seating between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Nobu Next Door received a three star review from The New York Times.
Designed by architect David Rockwell, Nobu Next Door evokes the Japanese seaside: Japanese fishing nets hang from the ceiling and a wall made of nori (Japanese seaweed) blankets the entrance. There is also a huge display of lit sake bottles--the classic accompaniment to Japanese food. The atmosphere buzzes with the same energy and excitement as Nobu yet definitely maintains an identity all its own.
"This place is outstanding! The food is wonderful and selection is fantastic! There pre fix menu is greatly priced. The regular menu is also affordable! Worth the trip!"

"We ( my girlfriend and I) reserved a table at 9 45. We ran to get there on time and the place was empty. The waiter was very thoughtful at first but in thirty minutes he said the kitchen would b closing and that we would have to order all we wanted. For a place that charges eighty to a hundred dollars per person, this doesn't seem like a good practice. The food was ok, nothing espetacular."

"Yellow tail with jalapeño was GREAT. Tuna and spicy tuna were good. Eel and avocado hand roll was surprisingly bad (shocking for me, as this is the easiest 'sushi' to do well. The mushroom soup also tasted great and is hard to find elsewhere."

"First time visiting Nobu Next -been to Aspen,NY location, received outstanding service and food even with children. @ Nobu Next, Staff on the phone and greeters at the front desk, pleasant. I was happy to see many children dining w/families. Atmosphere, chill, laid back,a bit too much for a Saturday night- had a business lunch vibe. Our server was curt, caught her rolling her eyes seemed to want to be anywhere that wasn't in the service industry. She never went over the menu, we asked for recommendations, difficult to engage her, only suggested what we'd ordered.Served my son a fork in a large puddle of soy sauce, didn't offer to clean it/walked away.I had to flag down the busboy to clean while the server watched inches away."

"Food was excellent, waiter was very nice--we had to call him over to order more food. He was not particularly helpful with regard to quantity of food to order. Did not feel the restaurant was as clean as it could be, had a feeling of needing an uplift."

"We made reservations weeks ahead, but still managed to get a tiny table right next to the main thoroughfare of the restaurant, even though there seemed to be other tables available. It was a bit loud with 5 tables having children at them.
That being said, the food was great. The blackened cod was amazing as were all the sashimi pieces we ordered."

"Nobu Next Door was a great find! I had tried to get a reservation for Nobu, but none were available. Other reviews suggested Nobu Next Door. Upon arrival, the scene was warm and inviting and the staff was extremely friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The food was AMAZING! So fresh, beautiful presentation and delicious. I would recommend NND to all my family & friends. We plan to go back again soon. I felt the price was in line with other Japanese restaurants and there were many options. 5 stars are absolutely deserved."

"We were lucky enough to secure reservations for restaurant week. Nobu Next Door is like a sneak preview of the grand predecessor Nobu. It makes you wonder how incredible the dining experience can possibly be at the father establishment. The food and service was very casual, laid back, but certainly came with attention to detail at NND. The dishes were combined beautifully with fresh, quality ingredients. Melt in your mouth sushi. The black cod miso was exquisite. Will definitely be back!"

"I was very pleased with our visit to Nobu. Even being early, we were immediately brought to our table. The staff explained the dishes very well. But of course, it's all about the food. And that was exquisite. Though already impressed by my visit of Nobu Hong Kong and Zuma Dubai, this was still a little better."

"Nobu Next Door (and Nobu itself) are for the very wealthy, period. We did a restaurant week $38 special, ordered from a small pared down menu, the food excellent, but not transcendent, the portions ranging from small to microscopic and the sushi main course was like most other good sushi, except that the pieces of fish were on the smaller side. There was only one item for dessert and it wasn't listed on the menu. I had a beer, my wife sake and the total, tax and tip was $135. Then we went home and had some sandwiches.
If you're wealthy and don't think twice about dropping $125 a head on a meal, Nobu's probably a great place to dine. But if I were you, I'd have something to eat before you get there."

"3rd time there was a disappointment.Restaurant week menu was not exciting. Sushi was not delicious - just ok. No one at the table raved about their meal and no one touched the panna cotta dessert.Besides that, I felt squooshed at our table and was constantly being bumped into by waiters."

"An amazing sense of peace came over me during my recent dinner at Nobu Next Door. Was it the tranquil decor? The subdued lighting and just-audible modern soundtrack? The unobtrusive waiter who wanted to be sure a non-Japanese woman understood what her order of Beef Toban Yaki would bring her? Or maybe just the combination of good sake and beautiful, delicious food. I'd eaten at Nobu 57 in the past and knew I would be delighted with the food from this kitchen. What surprised me was the sudden overwhelming feeling of being halfway around the world from my daily static. Nobu Next Door is more than a place to eat well, it's an oasis."

"As soon as we entered the restaurant smell of fried, not very pleasant , food overwhelmed us. Table are squeezed together to fit as many diners as possible. The waiter was very attentive, the sakitini was excellent, shrimp tempura, butter lettuce wrap black cod were heavenly. As soon as I had the first bite from my sushi all the bad smell disappeared and I felt like I was in Tokyo."

"They were incredibly accommodating to us to get us seated and then out in time to catch our show. Love the beautiful decor in combination with the fancy food and the vibey dance music. Miso black cod was great, as was the umami arctic char. The dulce de leche flan wasn't as creamy as I would have preferred, but who's complaining?"
