Nobu New York, the flagship restaurant of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine since its opening in 1994. Nobu partnered with restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro to bring his modern Japanese to Tribeca. Nobu draws upon his classical training at sushi bars in Tokyo and his life abroad in Peru, Argentina, and around the world to create a whole new trend in Japanese cuisine. The resulting dishes, including Yellowtail with Jalapeno, Tiradito Nobu Style, Lobster with Wasabi Pepper Sauce, and Black Cod with Miso, make Nobu the innovator of new style Japanese food. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times and a Michelin star.
Nobu New York's design by architect David Rockwell evokes the beauty of the Japanese countryside with its natural textures, birch trees, wood floors and a wall made of river stones. Energy and excitement pulse through the room, creating a surreal effect.
"My wife, son and I love Japanese food. We also live in Toronto, Canada. We had heard about this restaurant and knew we had to try it out. Recently, we travelled to New York for a one week vacation and added Nobu as a must-do to our list of events, etc. We made a reservation and truly enjoyed the dining experience. Excellent, fresh food that we were truly pleased with and blown away by. We ordered many varieites of suhi, sashimi, and hot dishes. Wow, the food could not have been any better or freshser. Well worth the trip and well worth travelling from Toronto for!!"

"We have had many Japanese food - both authentic or fusion. Our dinner experience at Nobu was quite extraordinary indeed! Sage (just pronounce it like the herb!), our friendly and knowledgeable wait staff did a fantastic job in introducing what's fresh and what we should absolutely NOT to miss tasting. We will definitely return again in the near future and have no hesitation in recommending to others!"

"Very creative food and beverages (cocktails) and a service made at a good rate. Tastes famous. The only problem: too noisy! Maybe too much people, high density. But, in overall, an excellent adress."

"Definitely the best Japanese food I've ever had! Unfortunately the ambience of the restaurant wasn't that great since it was too noisy, got many customers chitchatting during the lunch time."

"My first time at Nobu delivered all I had heard about, anticipated and way exceeded my expectations for their food. It was a wonderful lunch and I can't wait to go back until I have tried everything on the menu! The Toro Tartare appetizer was aaaamazing!! and so was everything else."

"Nobu still delivers, but pick your dishes. Its not as unique anymore, competition delivers high quality alternatives. But the classic Nobu dishes are still extremely good and inspiring."

"10/10 experience. If you are celebrating a special occasion, omakase style is the way to go. The chef will be creative and give you some great dishes. The staff is kind and attentive."

"This is a very late review for a dinner at Nobu's on June 2nd 2012. My girlfriend wanted to go there to celebrate her birthday, and she had high hopes. There is nothing really to complain about, other than - as we are from Europe - the air conditioning is unpleasant, need a scarf all the time. In general, the restaurant is simply not as classy as its reputation or its name. The food is all right, but nothing to rave about. Is you're looking for a restaurant for a special occasion, there are much better options."

"It was our first experience in Nobu and the waiter advised us what we had to try. We enjoyed every dish we tried. It was delicious! We would definitely come next time when we are in New York to taste something that we couldn't this time. The bill also surprised us, not as expensive as it is in Moscow. That is pleasant!"

"The food was amazing as well as the service. I expected the portions to be very small but was surprised that they were fairly large and I left the restaurant full. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends."

"I booked Nobu for a birthday meal for my girlfriend and we were not disappointed one bit. set in the bustling streets of Tribeca we found the service and food of the highest standard. being a chef myself and being on the lower end of the wage spectrum it was a little more expensive than we'd normally opt for but it was a special occasion and we came away very satisfied. we had the omakase or chefs choice which consisted of 7 equally delicious courses. we also requested to sit in front of the sushi bar so could watch the chefs preparing all the food, including some our dishes. the staff were very attentive and charming"

"My husband and I have been to Nobu 57 a number of times and we thought we would try the downtown Nobu. We had a late reservation for Friday night. We were seated at a four-top in the back corner of the restaurant. It was nice to have extra table space and we enjoyed being able to look out over the restaurant. The food was very good, as is to be expected from Nobu. Although I would have to say that we enjoyed the food at Nobu 57 more. While it was fresh and high quality at both places, there seemed to be something missing from here. I also happen to enjoy the desserts at Nobu 57 more. I would eat at this location again but I would prefer Nobu 57. Also, the waiter charged us for a app that we ordered but never received."

"Absolutely hands down the best sushi I've ever had. My wife and I went with the chef's choice and he brought out 8 different, yet equally amazing dishes. Freshest ingredients and best flavors. Although pricey, it is definitely worth a trip for a special occasion. Highly recommend splurging and doing the highest end chef's choice menu."

"The food was superb, especially the rock shrimp, the black cod and different sashimis. We took only one maki roll, but it was probably the best maki of my life! Our waitress was very kind, generous and helpful in helping us with the complex menu. The decor is magnificent."

"As it was our first time to the resturant with such an extensive menu, we both ordered the OMAKASE dinner. It was really hard to judge which dish was the best, one extraordinary dish would follow another. We both absolutely thought this was our best dining experience out definitely this year and we probably could go back even a little further.
Nobu lived up to its reputation as one of the best places in NYC. Even with the resturant being quite busy, our server provided a courteous and personal service."

"My husband and I made a special trip to NYC from upstate for our 8 year anniversary. Although Nobu was very beautiful inside with fantastic service we found the food to be expensive and average. My husband and I often go out to eat both where we live and in Europe (I am from England). Specifically the hot dish of the Rock Shrimp and the miso Black Cod which were both recommended were just ok. Cooked well and presented beautifully but didn't wow us with flavor. We had expected to be wowed with a very special evening and left feeling like we had experienced a place where it was all about the gimmick of being "seen" with good but not great food.Disappointed but I guess that's what you get for not heeding all the Yelp reviews."

"Fantastic food if you let the chef put it together without any limitations. Probably otherwise as well, but to go out of the traditional path and try something new we found combinations we maybe wouldn't have tried otherwise to be amazing."

"It was a special birhtday treat for my 10 year old foodie and it could not have been better. The staff was friendly, attentive, and did not put down in any way that a ten year old was ordering for his Nana. It was a wonderful lunch, that I hope he will always remember."

"I took my son for a special meal on our trip to NYC and we were delighted with the experience. We took the $100 tasting menu each and were totally impressed with the subtlety and delicacy of the 7 or so dishes and some real power packed into refreshingly small portions. Each dish really well introduced and explained by waiters. Left feeling had experienced a sushi master class. Thank you."

"We appreciated that the server advised us on the most popular dishes as well as her own personal favorites. We ended up ordering a mix of dishes we'd tried and loved before (rock shrimp tempura and black cod miso, of course) and some new-to-us plates (fluke sashimi and eggplant with miso). Everything was delicious.
We found it odd that coffee is not listed on the dessert menu. They do have it, and the cappuccino is worthwhile."

"Relaxed, maybe a little to relaxed, the guest could have made a little more effort to dress up. Nice and warm atmosphere. The food is excellent, we been to Nobu Dubai and this was even better (as we expected). Looking forward to more visits at Nobu. Highly recommended."

"I guess I was expecting more. Given the lure of Nobu throughout the years, I was expecting a meal unlike any other. I guess I was wrong. Mind you, there were many positives. The quality of the fish was wonderful, as was the pacing of the meal. I had some of the best octopus in my entire life. However, I think it stops there. When you go to a restaurant of such a high quality, you would safely assume that the service would be just as good. That is not what occurred. Our waiter seemed more of a hybrid waiter/busboy. He had zero personality, as it seemed most of the staff did, nor would he assist in recommending anything. I felt the need to hunt for him way too often as well. In a situation like this, you should be treated better."

"We were so looking forward to our dinner at Nobu with the hype it has been given over the years. Overall however we were disappointed. Although the ambiance and service were good the food was just average and very overpriced. The miso soup was good, so were the Japanese oysters and Tiradito for starters, but then came the sushi. There are tons of better sushi restaurants in New York and to charge 8$ for ONE piece of sushi it better be outstanding. It wasn't. Even the "Chef's Roll " left a lot to be desired...it needed something or a sauce with a kick to liven it up and there was none. Perhaps the non fish dishes are excellent but we are not meat eaters so we did not try them. Nevertheless, all should be above par. Too bad it wasn't."
