"Love this place. Always nice when money isnt a worry and you want a quality meal. The only downside is its in south side. You know what else is in south side? Every frat bro who flunked out of community college. The bar is too loud, so sit as far away as possible. I would not recommend this place on a weekend. If you are one of the aforementioned frat boys, no problem, right? Also- note to the wait staff from a Japanese speaker: its Na-ka-ma, not na-kam-a."

"We always enjoy our visit to Nakama and we celebrated Mothers Day on this visit. Everything was good save for the 20 minute wait to take our order and the surprise 18% gratuity that was automatically added to our check due to the Mothers Day holiday. No one likes surprises!"

"This is a hip hopping spot in the heart of Carson St. If you haven't been there you should try it. The food is great and the atmosphere is so fun. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We love it and try to get there whenever we are in town from Philadelphia."

"The food is good, but part of the experience is the "show" put on by your chef. We had a guy that looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but cooking for us. I know it's cheesy, but for these prices, you need to make an onion volcano or at least flip a piece of shrimp tail into your hat. Been here before, but this chef just wasn't into it - I get that you get bored doing the same thing night after night, but it's important to remember that the folks in front of you don't see this all the time - and are paying for a show, not just a meal. No need to pay these prices when you can get comparable food somewhere else."

"We opted for sitting in the bar area (with some trepidation on my part) instead of at the grill due to time constraints, and ordered things we would normally not have gotten because of that. Liked my choices (would have preferred more white meat on my chicken kabobs), and given we were out on a Wednesday night, the bar crowd was pretty tame (and we left before the rowdies showed up to party). A nice meal out and the hostess was helpful in suggesting alternate seating so that we would be finished in time to make our show at the City Theater."

"Things were generally quite enjoyable. On the positive the food was excellent, the staff engaging and the chef entertaining. On the down side, I enjoy quality red wine and was coming to Nakama for my birthday. Therefore I researched online and spotted a few on your website that I liked. Unfortunately the wine list had changed with really no quality reds. Candidly, that will cause me pause in the future. Finally, I valet parked my car with my family. When I came out I was given the "opportunity" to get my own car out of a spot with 1 foot clearance on each end. That isn't valet. That wasn't worth $7 and a $3 tip. That was a shame and a bad reflection on the great food and service we just enjoyed inside."

"My husband wanted to go to Nakama for his 30th birthday with a few friends. This was a great choice; it accommodated all 7 of us nicely at 1 table. It's always a fun time when the chef is preparing the food right in front of you! "The above ratings are specific to service received on 2/23/2013. Service received at other times was better. Although we had reservations for 10 pm, we were not given a seats at a table until after 10:45 and we ended up eating after 11 pm. We were not the only ones either. Everyone at our table experienced the same delay, although it seemed that almost every table in the back was empty. By that time, everyone was tired and our meals and service was rushed. On another note, the level of noise is more than "energetic". It may also be a good idea to work on the smell from cooking. I had to warn my friend that our clothes would have to be washed immediately after."

"We've been there twice before, and enjoyed it alot, but this time was the best of all. Our chef was Blair, and he was absolutely sensational. The skills he exhibited were just amazing, and the way our food was cooked was nothing short of perfect. He made sure everything was done the specific way we requested. Two of our party got steak and said it was the best they ever had. Blair's personality, cooking, and entertainment skills made this visit to Nakama an awesome one. It was a birthday celebration, as well, and our server was very nice to make it special. She did an excellent job in all phases."

"I absolutely love Nakama and have told many people that it is my favorite restaurant. I grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh and now go to school at Pitt. In my most recent visit, I brought 4 other girls with me who had never been to the restaurant before. All four of them told me afterwards how much they wanted to come back with me again. The one girl is planning on coming back next week for her birthday. I had my one friend (who is afraid of sushi) try my Haneli roll and told her I was confident that she would like this roll. I was once in her position before trying the same one! She loved it and will be returning in the future."

"The food was great at Nakama when it first opened, and then it went seriously downhill in service and caring for customers. But I was pleasantly suprised to find that everything was back on the up swing. It is pretty loud in the restaurant so that's the only reason I wouldn't call it romantic, but it is a good place for a date."

"I frequent this restaurant for special occasions. I find this Nakama to be pricey but the food is well worth the price. You get a generous portion of food and the food is well prepared! Make sure to make reservations for dinner because they do get very busy, especially on a Friday or Saturday night."

"The waitress was aware that two of our reservation of eight were gluten free. My food was cooked in the soy sauce with gluten and I was served with the dipping sauce with gluten. I had already started eating when I realized the error. I had to wait to have my food cooked in the kitchen and ate my meal after everyone else in the party."

"The food was great. However, on a Saturday night I cannot figure out why the wine we ordered was not cold and took 20 plus minutes to get. We ordered a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, not some reserve wine. This seems to be a problem in the Pittsburgh area, this is not the only restaurant this has happened at. We only ordered 1 bottle, not 6!"

"Nakama is amazing as always. The food is always outstanding! There is no way you could leave hungry. The Scallops are always amazing and cooked to perfection. We usually get some sort of sushi as well. This time we opted for the Hawaiian roll. It was perfect ! I can't say anything bad about Nakama, It's always a great night out with amazing food , great atmosphere, fabulous chefs,and great wine!! My birthday dinner was amazing !"
