"We were celebreating our anniversary and it was our first time at Selkirk's. We heard some good things about it so decided to try it out. Although it was a bit on the pricey side, both the food and the service was great. I think it's good value for special occassions. The history sourinding the place and the ambiance of the restaurant makes it special. I would certainly return and recommend it to my friends."

"Mother's day dinner service was incredibly slow, my guess is due to understaffing. Prices on the menu suggest a higher class restaurant: no host to greet us, no server for the first 15 min after seating, and no appetizer until 45 minutes after. Reservations for 6:45, and did not get out of there until 9:15. Service was so disappointing, food was fine, but not excellent (some things not all that great). Really too bad, because the restaurant atmosphere is really lovely - minus plastic folding table we, and several others, were eating off of (not so classy). I have read reviews that were not so great, and some that were fantastic, which can only lead me to believe that they are inconsistent at best - risky when it is such an expensive meal."

"As this was advertised as a "Mother's Day Brunch", we expected a more extensive breakfast-type menu. There was one traditional breakfast item, "Eggs Benedict" and no breakfast items for children at all. As we had not had breakfast that morning, this was quite disappointing for the whole family. The Eggs Benedict was very good, but the service was not. We had to ask for refills twice before receiving them and they had run out of coffee when our meals were served and we were almost done eating before coffee arrived again."

"This is the second time I have been to Selkirk Grill. The waiter knew it was one of my friend's birthday. The salad was just lettuce, a couple of croutons and two slivers (hardly noticable - bacon), Little to none dressing. The soup - Red Beet Soup - was not defineable. We expected chopped red beets with the standard dollup of sour cream - nope!! It was a reddy grey colour and was mush. It was a beautiful hot sunny day, so the patio was great and we had a wonderful visit. The waiter never came by once he took our order to ask if we wanted dessert, coffee or whatever!! So we paid our bill, left a good tip considering and went to a nearby Starbucks.
Won't recommend it and most likely won't go back!!"

"The food was delicious.There was only one complaint(the calamari was a little tough)and they brought a fresh plate right away.It was a lot of food.I had the cornish hen and it was quite tender.I probably should have taken some of it home but it was so tasty I couldn't stop eating.The staff was really friendly and made sure I had everything I needed to make my first visit there a good one.I will definitely be back"

"Though buffeted by the wind as we walked across the square towards the restaurant, the welcome once inside was warm and friendly. The room is bright and elegant and the tables are well spaced. We all enjoyed the prime rib special dinner - warm buns with special butter, salad, yorkshire pudding, prime rib (cooked the way we like it - medium rare)sitting on top of garlic mashed potatoes, carrots and asparagus, with apple cobbler for dessert. Accompanied by a half price bottle of wine and great service, we had a very enjoyable evening!"

"My wife and I went to the Selkirk on a Friday evening for dinner after hearing great things about the restaurant from friends. The ambiance was great - it provides a very comfortable and peaceful setting for dining. Unfortunately the positives from our experience ended there. My wife ordered the "special", which was a roast. The roast was cooked to perfection, but was served completely cold. I ordered the tenderloin steak and asked for it to be cooked medium-rare, and it was served very well-done (all gray throughout without a hint of pink). We then ordered a dessert to share, and after 20 minutes our server informed us that the kitchen had forgotten about our dessert order, so our total wait time for dessert turned into about 40 minutes."

"We enjoyed our meal immensely. The crab and shrimp cakes are excellent, and the bison was perfectly done and tender. I cannot comment on the wine list, as we did not have any alcohol. Our reservation was for 5 p.m., so the supper crowd had not shown up yet. It was nice and quiet, with nice music playing. I can see how it could get noisy when more people are there, but we were out by 6:30. Service was excellent. Staff were present, attentive and humorous but not over-bearing."

"I have visited Heritage Park many times, both on and off season, but have never dined at the Selkirk Grille. I decided to treat a friend to Easter brunch, and decided that this was a good time to try the restaurant. I made reservations for us for Sunday afternoon. When I arrived, there was no one at the hostess desk, and I waited for several minutes before one of the waiters saw me and came over to inquire. My friend had arrived ahead of me, and was already seated at a table behind a pillar. While this is acceptable in a restaurant that is filled with customers, it is unacceptable in a restaurant where only one table has customers that are seated. I insisted that we be moved to a better table."

"Everything about this restaurant is what you would hope to experiance when dining out. We ordered the pre-set chef's menu and every course was fresh and delicious. My husband had ordered a Caesar(the drink)and said it was the best he has had in the city in a very long time. The other guests and I had some great wine from the 1/2 price wine list on until April. When my husband's steak came out a little over cooked for his liking the server made no heistation to have it re-done and the second steak was perfect. Super professional establishment that are few and far between these days.

"The hostess who greeted and seated us was very friendly and accommodating, the food was very good, but the server ruined the evening. He was very cold and made us feel like we were waisting his time when we asked 2 questions about dairy free items and 1 change. We waited an hour and then asked for a bread basket, which he then blamed on the help for not getting us. In total we were there 1.5 hours before we got our appetizer, then main course. He ended up getting one of our dishes wrong, but we weren't willing to wait any longer, so we ate it. He was not very attentive, as he then offered our dairy free person the Canadian cheese plate for desert. It was a dissapointing evening, as we were looking forward to the quaintness of the restaurant"

"A great test of a restaurant is the feedback received from the guests I take. I've been to the Selkirk three times to host for business, and each time the person I've hosted has said I love it here, I WILL be back. We also go there for personal occasions.
Also wanted to comment on the scallops at lunch. I had them, and then ordered a comparable dish at a very high priced notable restaurant on Stephen Avenue 'just to see'. The chef at the Selkirk Grille FAR surpassed the similar dish at The "B"."

"Beet soup was far short of the quality expected (no similarity to beet at all). The biscuit that was served with the crème brule could barely be broken with my teeth.
The waiter was kind enough to substitute small potatoes with vegetables for the beans that accompanied the arctic char.
The orso bouco was wonderfully tender but was quite flat flavor wise. Perhaps a small amount of spice or red wine could be added.

"Nice atmosphere, great service, good menu selections - the salmon, the lamb, the charcuterie board, the selection of cheeses for dessert. The Spring Special 50% off of selected wines was a bonus. Love the background music in keeping with the theme of the restaurant. Time well spent."

"The Selkirke Grill was hosting a Safeway function in the room next door, you could notice the effort taken by staff to reduce as much noise as possible, we hardly heard them all night! The charcuterie board is fantastic!!"

"Our lunch was lovely and the food amazing. What a relaxing way to have lunch, strolling up to the Selkirk in Historic Heritage Park, the old time music softly playing.
The stores are open year round which was a treat to visit after lunch. Our waiter Enzo, really made the lunch fun and relaxing. It was so good I went back the next day!
Lunch specials, the Salmon, Scallop orzo dish was just perfect. My colleague had the gnochi Lobster dish she said was very good. Bottles of wine on half price for the month of March and April. This was one of the nicest lunches I have had in the city. I will definitely be back and hopefully soon! Thank you Enzo for make our tw lunches in one week so special."

"This was our first visit to the Selkirk Grill. We were greeted and seated; impressed with the décor; our server ISREE welcomed us and had a bit of a chat. We chose the Sunday Special, "Prime Rib Dinner". Excellent choice, the prime rib was tender and succulent. The service was impeccable! Yes, we will return, perhaps try another one of their specials. I would (already have) refer family/friends to the Selkirk Grill."

The tenderloin special with asparagas and garlic mashed potatoe was outstanding and cooked to perfection.The wine list is excellent and offers a beautiful selection of very reasonably priced wines.

"February 14th was the first time we dined at The Selkirk Grille. It was actually recommended to me as a nice place to celebrate a special occasion. Sure enough, the person who recommended The Selkirk Grille was not wrong. The staff was so friendly, polite, honest and very on top of things. The food was just excellent and the atmosphere was very ambiance, just perfect for a lovely Valentine's dinner."
