Restaurant Nippon opened in August 1963, becoming the first
Japanese Restaurant in the U.S.A. with an authentic sushi bar.
In 1988, we introduced nihachi soba (with ratio of 80% of
buckwheat flour to 20% of wheat flour) made from buckwheat
seeds cultivated at our own farm in CANADA.
In 1989, after five years of negotiations with the F.D.A., we
received an exclusive license to import Japanese " Tiger Blow
Fish " ( Tora Fugu).
In November 2006, we became the only importers of natural
wasabi from the Gifu prefecture, Japan.
In 2007, we started producing and serving tofu, home-made
daily with soy beans cultivated at the Canadian farm.
On November 11, 2009, for the above contributions in the
promotion of Japanese culture through Japanese food, owner and
president of Restaurant Nippon, Nobuyoshi Kuraoka, was awarded
by the Japanese Government " The Order of The Rising Sun, Gold
Rays with Rosette ", (Tantamount to British Knighthood )
"A wonderful throw back in time. This is truly classic Japanese. The food is wonderful, but the prices get very high very quickly. To save money, I tend to order muliple appetizers or small plates. The tofu and the buckwheat soda noodles are excellent."

"Just walking in here, did not amaze me, but reading Yelp reviews, it looked really good. And indeed, the food is amazing and given my table was one of two non-Japanese customer tables, it did convince me that this indeed must a a true authentic Japanse restaurant. The service was friendly, but could have been a little bit more alert/ attentive (tea refills etc)."

"Really poor service. Water glasses were never refilled. Inattentive waiter throughout the meal. I will not return and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant."

"A true Japanese restaurant--cooking at your table option was fantastic--sushi was above average--though our waitress was Egyptian, the service was exceptional"

"The waitress was lovely and everyone was incredibly nice, but I just can't get past the tiny amount of food they served. The rolls were about 20% more expensive than at other Japanese restaurants and contained about half the amount of food. It was pretty shocking, I couldn't believe how little fish they served in my tiny little pieces. We left hungry."

"Had sukiaki for the second time, cooked at our table, and their soba salad. It was all delicious. The waitress who prepared the food was very pleasant. We will certainly go back in the near future."

"For Japanese food, Nippon is just excellent. We live in South Florida, where there are very few top rated Japanese restaurants. When in NY, Nippon is a must for us. The food has been consistently wonderful forever. The service is always very good. They appreciate their customers and the service shows it. My wife and I have had many of the items on their menu and nothing ever disappoints."

"Sushi was great, however, upon arrival I was told my reservation from OpenTable wasn't accepted and they were overbooked; had to sit at the bar. Which was fine, but still."

"Everything about Nippon was excellent. The service was fast and management asked periodically if everything was going smoothly. The food was served very Japanese tradition and was absolutely tasteful."
