Oceanique is an eclectic seafood restaurant in the French-American style. Oceanique continues to garner acclaim as one of the Chicago area"s finest restaurants. Since 1993, Oceanique has been ranked as the number one seafood restaurant in the Chicago metropolitan area by the prestigious Zagat Guide. In all of our preparations we endeavor to use the finest organic produce and seafood from sustainable, eco-friendly sources. "Oceanique has always followed a simple formula for success: outstanding food and top notch service adds up to continued success. And their tenure as the gem of the store-fronts on Main street in Evanston proves this blueprint right on target. While some trendy restaurants come and go, like fashionable women who don't age that well, this gem has continued to both charm and excite food lovers from the north shore suburbs to the heart of the city. As their name clearly tells you, seafood is the main emphasis here although meat eaters have a fine steak or two to choose from as well. Without detailing the menu and wine list in full it's enough to say that the choices are both inventive and comforting. And so is the service."

"The event was Mother's Day and you know what to expect on that occasion. You are usually rushed and in and rushed out. Not so at Oceanique. The evening was an all around wonderful experience. From the moment we were greeted until we left we felt that we were very special. Our table captain was extremely personable without being obnoxious. He took care of our every need. It was wonderful to watch the staff work as a team as they served us and attended to us. My martini was delicous and well made! The entrees were just marvelous and we treated ourselves to some very delicious desserts. And to top it off, the coffee is very flavorful and full bodied. And we were not rushed and this alone felt very good. Bravo! Oceanique!"

"A suburban restaurant not in a street mall, very nice change. I would recommend this restaurant to friends who enjoy good food and wine in a restaurant with a good ambiance. We were not rushed through our meal, service good but not intrusive. Would gladly go back again. Big vote to the valet parking which saves hunting for parking."

"Returned for a visit after several years..Food and service are from a bygone era. While expensive, a lot goes into the offerings, taste bud tantalizers and palate cleansing intermezzo are a very nice touch. Not only is food quality excellent, but preparation and presentation are tops.

"Service was exceptional. Food had great presentation and very tasty. We did the 5 course tasting and it was outstanding. All the food was spaced out very well - we didn't feel rushed and we were able to enjoy our wine in between courses. Allow yourself for a relaxing 2 hour dinner. It was a true french/american experience. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion"

"Let me first note that our server was great. She was very friendly and pleasant. In regard to the food - it depends on your tastes. I didn't particularly care for or appreciate the meal as my spouse did. If you don't like simplicity skip this place. I thought the Turbo I had was bland. The rest just okay. Not worth the price. If you do not have some kind of discount, expect a very expensive meal - our 5-coourse chef's tasting menu was limited and at regular prices was around $233.00 without the discount. I don't think this experience would be worth that kind of money. So if you like this kind of place get a discount first and save yourself some money. This meal also takes time - our dinner lasted over an hour."

"My partner and I went to Oceanique on Tuesday night and a friend decided to meet us there last minute. We had 2 five course tasting menus but our friend didn't. He only ordered an entrée. They were kind enough to bring him a little something along with all 5 of our courses. Very nice, unexpected touch! The food and wine were fantastic as always, but their thoughtfulness will ensure our return many, many times to come."

"This was our first visit to Oceanique so we decided to try the tasting menu. My favourite dishes to order are fish/seafood so I was in heaven. Each dish was prepared in an unexpected and original way and each was better than the one before.
For our first courses our daughter had the foie gras and my husband and I had the lobster which turned out to be a lobster salad. Everyone was happy with their choice.
For my main I had Tuna as did my husband; our daughter had salmon. None of us were disappointed. I should mention that the wait staff were excellent..never intrusive but always there when needed. We were told that the Chef's choice choice was to cook both salmon and tuna rare which was more than fine for us. I also appreciated that"

"We had a great experience but were dissapointed to learn that our Groupon didn't end up helping us at all. Our $80 5 course meal which we were led to believe would be $40 per person, turned out to be $100 each (and we had a group of 6). The advertisement was very misleading. We will not be able to afford this in the future, so besides the food being good, we would not recommend to our friends that they go through Groupon. It was our daughter's 19th birthday, and I was excited to be able to take her to a special restaurant that we would not have been able to afford otherwise, only to find that we needed to bay another $270 on top of the $300 what we had already purchesed on line through groupon."

"It was our second time here and 2nd time doing the 5-course. The starter was a delicious and very light turbot tartar. 2nd course we chose the Maine lobster with buffalo mozzarella over greens and Maine diver scallops. Both were fresh with the scallops being slightly better than the lobster dish. The lobster wasn't the best I've ever had but still very well done. Next a refreshing grapefruit sorbet to cleanse then a complimentary sampling of the Spanish turbot which was a nice touch. The main courses, tuna and turbot entrees, were both outstanding combinations of protein, sides and sauces. The desserts, pear tart and 3-nut tart, were incredible. It's pricey but the top notch service and food quality make it a great special occasion place."

"We went for our 30th anniversary. We had been there in 1989 when they first opened, and it was great then, and it is wonderful now. The chef came out to our table, he was there back in '89. "Well the evening did not get off to a good start. Despite advanced reservations, we had to cool our heels in the bar area for 20 minutes. Not once during that time, did the bartender ask us if we'd like a drink or to look at a drink menu. Then once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for anyone to offer us a menu, water, or just even acknowledge our presence. In any restaurant, these are somewhat intolerable annoyances. In a restaurant where you are paying top dollar for good but not extraordinary food, it was rather unacceptable. Also, my husband had wanted to suprise me with flowers at the table. When we checked in, he noticed that the flowers (with my name on the card) were sitting right at the reception table in full view of us."

"The three of us had the Chef's five-course tasting menu and the food was delicious and very artfully presented. It was a great meal overall and it was great to have three different dessert selections that we could all sample. The service was good - I only wish that the sommelier had given several wine pairing options to choose from rather than just making the decision for me."

"We enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairings. Everything was fantastic! Our favorite was the scallops with the homemade spicy kimchi. If you love seafood this place is not to be missed. We will definitely be back!"

"The food was exceptional! It is without a doubt why the restaurant gets high accolades from prestigious dining ratings. Portions were appropriately sized and the servers were very helpful in explaining the menu and the plated courses. We commend the chef on his outstanding offerings and beautifully presented food. With the menu options and especially the drinks being quite pricy, Oceanique is certainly a place for special occasions."

"This restaurant tried too hard and missed the mark. The food was very pricey but not worth it in taste. The linens were nice but the furniture was diner furniture - not restaurant and certainly not fine dining furniture. The decor was nice in one area and absent in another. The staff outnumbered the guests - which you would think would make for excellent service, but I had to ask for a menu 3x before getting one.
If you are going to charge $4 for a small cup of regular coffee (which was not refilled!) you have to serve the best food in an amazing environment. This place tried, but missed the mark. We regretted spending our time and money there."

"It was a delightful evening with wonderful service. Without alcohol the bill for the four of us was $450, with tip, so a little on the pricey side. Alcohol would have put it over the top as it was outrageously priced. $40 for a single malt that can be purchased by the bottle for twice that is my ASIs of comparison.
The turbot was wonderful, as was the appetizer (pear) and deserts. Room was a little on the cool side."

"We were seated at a table in the long room others have spoken of that was nearest the door. We were cold throughout the meal! The food was good but not a good value, even with groupons it was quite expensive, especially since we only got a choice on two out of 5 courses and only had 1 glass of wine each with one of our three not having any."
