"We had a double birthday brunch at El Paso and we loved it. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was great. I loved the chilaquiles with fish and their flan is the very best!"

"went for lunch, very slow service. it took over 45 mins to make 3 tacos. the waiter forgot/did not put in one of our orders. there was only 5 people in our group and we all ordered the lunch special, you'd think it would be a quick affair but it dragged on for an hour and a half. it took 45 mins for the food, and i had to ask 3 times for the check when we were finished."

"We had several great experiences at El Paso. Newish to East Harlem, we keep finding all kinds of wonderful places to eat and discover. The wonderful Poet's Den Theater is nearby and we have a bite before or after. El Paso Restaurant is one of the few places I've been in NYC where you are greeted with smiles, the water glasses are refilled constantly, the waitstaff is present during the entire meal. Service in NYC's moderate priced restaurants has gone down the tubes, but you can be assured El Paso is on top of it. Authentic South of the border food with a splash of creativity makes it a place we will visit again and again!!"

"Was looking for a fun authentic Mexican restaurant to celebrate Cinco De Mayo with my boyfriend, and decided on El Paso based on the open table reviews. So glad we came! The atmosphere was fun and festive. The restaurant is bigger than it appears and although it was extremely crowded because of the holiday, we were seated promptly at 7:45 (which was our reservation time). Our server was extremely pleasant and kept the drinks coming. The menu looked amazing so we ordered 4 different appetizers to try a little of everything-- and they were all delicious!! especially the suckling pig..YUM! Dinner was the chicken mole & red snapper--both were fantastic! And before we left we were given free shots of tequila to toast the holiday! Loved it!"

"My experience at El Paso was more then stellar. My bestfriend and I were in desperate need of good food after moving into our new apartment all day and El Paso, was what the doctor prescribed. The cocktails are delicious, tacos were authentic, and the service couldn't have been better. If you live uptown stop missing out and go to El Paso."

"Interesting place. Good for groups. I would say that the food was a little bland for what I think of as Mexican food in NYC but it was def edible. Drinks are strong."

"Only the food works here. We ordered a drink and the bartender chose to schmooze with a couple at the bar so our order took about 10 minutes. The waitress kept trying to take our food order, but we wanted the drinks first. When we ordered, I asked the waitress about a particular word that described the dish I was ordering. She said it was how the food was prepared. I knew that, I wanted more detail. She didn't know. The food was fantastic. My husband had the pork carnitas and there was so much pork leftover he asked for a to-go bag and also asked if the chef could put a little more sauce with the leftovers. He was told he would have to pay for another whole entree to get the sauce. Really?????? We will never go back."

"Though we had previously eaten at this establishment about three times, our latest experience will be our last. Many years since we have felt this unwelcome at a NYC restaurant. My wife, arriving first, was ignored at the door.
While the patrons seated on either side of our table were afforded the usual, standard attentiveness, I and my wife waited 20 minutes to put in our main course order.
We were surprised to hear other patrons being told that there were specials; no such info was given to us.
We will not be back. If El Paso does not want our money, then fine. We hope the management understands we will be telling all our friends & colleagues to avoid El Paso's retro attitide."

"Met up with friends that brought their baby out and they were able to give us a table where we could park the stroller...awesome. I expected chips and salsa on the table but they don't do that...what gives? We ordered guacamole and asked if we could get a little salsa and were then charged $3.95 which I thought was just a silly upcharge for a Mexican restaurant. The chicken enchiladas were ok, my husband loved his duck dish, and our friend got the fish tacos that looked amazing but should be paired with rice and beans or something to make it look more like an entree. The boys said the margs were good and had a couple rounds. Overall, it was good but I still will call Maz Mezcal my go to for Mexican on the UES/"
