"This was my first experience with chop and it was very pleasurable. The service was phenomenal although the food could have been a little bit better. My fries with my meal were lukewarm but very flavorful. The ambience inside was very modern and had a homey feel as soon as I walked in. I would recommend this place to mostly everyone and anyone who wants a simple night out."

"My spouse and I have been here twice before and had good experiences. We decided to bring a group of six here for Father's day dinner and were excited to share the experience with four first time diners to this venue. We were actually very disappointed and slightly embarrassed to have suggested it. The food took over an hour (they weren't that busy as we had a late dinner around 8pm on a Sunday) was unimpressive, lacked flavour and taste, very small proportioned, small non-existent sides (2/3 of plate was empty) and overall overpriced.
By the way, do yourself a favor and skip the apple pecan salad. Terrible taste and combination."

"It all started bad when they crammed my group of 8 into a booth meant for 6. Appys were good, but raised my hopes for the main meal which was sub par. I ordered my steak medium and it came out well done, twice. They did end up comping the meal for me, which was nice of them.
After our main dish was served, our server seemed distracted and took very long to come by and refill drinks or to see if we were ready for the bill.
Overall, not a great experience."

"The three menu choices my wife and I made were not available so we had to settle for other food not of our choosing. For a restaurent in this category I found that to be unacceptable. Poor attention was given to specific requests by our waitress as well. There are far better food experiences in Calgary and unless this was one huge anomaly, I would not choose to return."

"This is in a great spot to meet up before a movie. Didn't like the fact that when I finally decided on my meal I was told it wasn't available as it was being replaced with a test item. The manager did explain that they weren't going to go to the expense of changing menus for two weeks. Okay. Not sure why they don't run the test as a special; have the servers announce what is not available; put an insertion in the menu promoting the switch - I might have chosen to try it. Choose the filet instead. It was a little overcooked but delicious none the less. One other at the table was very pleased with her choice of filet; another disappointed with the prime rib - warned that it was cooked past her choice but then why throw it on the grill?"

Had seafood chowder and that was amazing (for being landlocked).

"I visited this steakhouse on Sunday June 2, 2013. It appears to be part of a chain with standardized food and setting, and all that involves. The service was very attentive, and the wine list unusually broad. The food was quickly and competently prepared, and exactly as ordered. No surprises. In short, a very professional, if somewhat soulless, service."

"Aaron made our 30 th wedding anniversary dinner out a true cellebration!
We expected delicious food and were pleasantly surprised to also receive the attention and best wishes from management and staff.
The steak Oscar was again cooked perfectly and the sauces hit the right note. The Mac and cheese is a grown up comfort food that is soft and chewy, with crunchy bread crumbs and high quality scrumptious cheeses that don't irritate this this lactose intolerant cheese lover's belly. The small slice of the chocolate cake is exact size for after a filling entree."

"The food was great, the drinks were refreshing and the staff were very friendly. Overall I would recommend Chop to anyone who is looking for a restaurant for any special occasion or for a fun night out with friends or family. The timing of the food was very good, there were no long waits for our appetizers and the main course arrived with enough time to finish the appetizer and still have some time to visit with other guests at my table. The music was a little bit loud at times. My guests and I had a hard time hearing one another depending on the song that was playing. Other than that, everything was very good. I will definitely be going back to Chop sometime soon."

"Over all our dinning experience was great. There was 5 in our party so we got to try a variety of the menu. I loved the Grilled Chicken Apple Pecan Salad, other dishes included the steak special which was loved and the Mushroom Ravioli. Although it was outstanding when it comes to flavour the overall dish was very rich. The appetizers were great and we all LOVED the steak bites. The only reason for the 3 stars for service is because we had to get to a movie and our waitress got tied up with a birthday table and we had to wait a while before another server stepped in to start the payment process. Otherwise, everyone was great and very friendly. Loved the Sangria!"

"Our food was 45 mins late. The caesar tasted like a chain restaurant. The french onion soup had 3 bay leaves which was 'normal', waiter insisted he 'ate them all the time' and that it was ok since a reputable Calgary pub also does this. The leaves are tough to chew, usually cause digestive problems and is useless past boiling the flavor out, in fact this shows laziness. Our app was barely warm but it came immediately after setting our starters down, the main followed right after, all three plates on the table. The out-of-the-bag mashed potatoes (as denoted by the creases and smooth blob) was over-proportioned. The meat cold and the vegetables minimal (3 beans and 2 large slices of red pepper). $91 for this? Never again."

"We had been to the Chop in Richmond BC 4 years ago and loved it and we are sorry that it took us so long to try out the Calgary location. This one is just as good. They were more than willing to accommodate my elderly mothers needs with changes to the listed menu and we will definately be going back. The meals were excellent and the price was very reasonable."

"Went to chop on Sunday night May 19, the restraunt wasn't full. Took 1 hour for our meals to come - I had salad and hubby had rare steak. Really 1hr for salad and steak? I could have cooked and cleaned up faster. We almost missed ur movie and ended up with horrible seats. Definitely won't be going back there in a while."

"The plan was Dinner and a Movie. Location was the main reason we ate here and it looked classy on the outside. The food was slow in coming out. We ordered 3 items from the menu but moments later our waitress returned and told us 2 of the 3 items were not available. I had the Clam chowder-it was gummy and not hot, however I ate it anyway cuz I was starving and did not want to reorder and wait another 20mins. The only saving grace was the steak entree, however even that was not a home run. We appreciated the staff's efforts as most of what we experienced was not their fault. Sadly we will not be returning and would choose the other restaurants in the mall."

"Disappointed indeed! I very much enjoy my steak and being able to cook it to a perfect medium rare is one expectation I won't compromise. I understand that occasionally a steak gets overcooked however when your party orders 4 steaks and everyone's is well overcooked then you just don't know what you are doing in the kitchen. "Booth was not comfortable difficult for the middle person to have to get up to allow them out. Caesar drinks arrived with sugar on the rim not salt glass glass had a huge chip in it. Appetizers did not come at the same time we had to remind waitress that we were still waiting for some. Chowder soup had a thick crust on it. Onion rings, steak bites and the peas were nice. Lobster stuffed haddock was ordered for 2 both felt that it was dried out and appeared not to be made fresh but looked like it came out of a box. Baseball sirloin was a huge disappointment but I was comparing it to the Keg. Other steak was dried out. When leaving we had go through a large group that were smoking right in front of the door this was an awful experience."

"We were taken in and sat at a booth for 7 people by one of the many smiling girls. The waitress came and took a drink order while we waited for the rest of our party. The drinks came after a wait and the rest of the party had arrived. Their drinks were ordered and again it took some time to get their drinks. The food came and was nicely prepared and very enjoyable. When we left the girls were smiling and attentive and held the doors open. I would go back again."

"was my sons 30th birthday, this a steak house, THEIR business, , first they had no steak sauce, his steak, ordered medium rare went back three times ...so needless to say, we did not eat dinner as a family and the third steak that came out was not edible either! Caesar salad was limp and old lettuce and we could not eat it ...they were more than embarrassed and comped our whole meal...which was certainly not expected and said it was not their usual standard ...Crab cakes and Ahi Tuna salad were amazing, ..won't be rushing to go back as other reviews read after we're a similar experience"

"Great service, friendly staff. Food was on time. My wife and I had ordered steaks that were not even close to the way we had asked. One of our kids meals was cold, although they were supplied with a complementry veggie snack. None of us had finished our meals and were presented with a desert menu. Hoping for a better experence we had ordered the triple sampler. One of the three was fantastic the other two were not. The chocolate cake was very dry and (I can not remember the name of the other desert) but it was soaked up and soggy almost falling apart on its own and had to be eaten with a spoon. For the price we paid and the quality of food we recieved it was.....disapointing."
