Opened in October 2001 with native John Besh at the helm, Restaurant August is the only restaurant to be awarded a perfect "5 Bean" score from The Times-Picayune in the past two years. Food & Wine bestowed Besh with the honor of "Best New Chef" in 1998. Gourmet magazine's Guide to America's Best Restaurants listed August in its top five picks in New Orleans.

"Looked forward to the meal for months. Huge fan of August -.last experience there was stellar . Unfortunately this time terrible service made it almost impossible for me to enjoy my food. I had been talking it up for weeks. My husband and I arrived a little early and they seated us before the rest of the party. Asked us what kind of water we wanted. I went to the ladies room and the water had been served. The rest of the group arrived and we got menus. We ordered but I mentioned while we were ordering that we were not asked if we desired cocktails so he brought us cocktail menus and gave all of them to my husband! By the time he came back to take orders, apps had already been served. It went progressively downhill from there. So sad."

"This was my second time eating at Reastaurant August. I love everything they serve and the wine list is excellent. Our server was very friendly and took the time to make sure we loved our food and our visit. My wife had a vegetarian 5 course meal. Although she is not a vegetarian she was in awe of how everything was served to please all tastes."

"Heavily recommended restaurant to us to try. lovely place. we arrived early and were seated early which was great. Knowledgeable waiter who seemed to be impatient with our questions and lack of "understanding" of the nuances and creative presentations of the food. So after an expensive meal (in excess of $200) he barely acknowledged us on the way out. Would not go back. Don't need to be treated as a second class "foodie" in a city that really has tons of places with equally as good food. Actually we went to one of those places the next night and were treated much better."

"We brought a group of 8+4 the first Saturday of Jazzfest. A pricey high end restaurant, we hoped it would exceed expectations. Most importantly on the food side it did - fantastic seafood, one of the best filet mignons ever - which is hard to do - based on the great taste of the meat not slathered with anything to cover up its rich flavor, and scrumptious desserts worth the splurge like the banana bread pudding! On the service side, the group was split. The larger table of 8 had a waiter that was abrupt and haughty, while the smaller table was quite happy with the service. Jazzfest is an extremely busy time, so possibly our waiter was tired or over-whelmed by a long evening. We give benefit of the doubt and encourage you to try August!"

"Great experience!. Every dish was innovative with delicate flavor combinations. The presentation was beautiful but not pretentious. We were too full for desserts, but the complementary pralines hit the spot. My husband had the vegetarian tasting menu and was pleased with the variety and originality, especially the stuffed squash blossoms. I started with gnocchi with black truffles (yep, REAL shavings and a generous amount at that!) and crab in a light cream sauce. The potato gnocchi was the lightest I have ever experienced and I always try the gnocchi when offered. Wine list was excellent.
We went at about 7:30 which was perfect; it did start to get a bit noisy by about 9:30.

"I had dined here 2 years ago and had a fabulous experience. We were celebrating an award received by one of our doctors earlier that day. Although we had made a reservation for 4, the restaurant was very accommodating and we were able to increase the reservation to 5 people without a hassle. We dined in one of the smaller rooms -- actually the same room I had dined in on my previous visit -- and everything was perfect. Charming atmosphere and impeccable service!"

"Every mouthful was close-my-eyes-OMG-rapturous – just like my first visit. The amuse bouche (much more than a single mouthful) began the evening’s bliss with an egg shell full of the most delicate and flavor-filled, three-layered treat. Gnocci followed, more tender than the most delicate pasta you’ve ever eaten, and enveloped in a delicious black truffle cream topped with blue crab – I never wanted this dish to end! Pacific sablefish and tri-part duck for dinner, and goats milk cheesecake for dessert – every bite outstanding. Service was thoroughly attentive, knowledgeable, and very pleasant without ever interrupting our conversation. The dining room is charming, quiet, and an excellent ‘wrapping’ for the spectacular food and service!"

"I went here with my wife and another couple after JazzFest Sunday and it was outstanding. I dine out a lot at various price points and can honestly say this was worth it. The only drawback was we couldn't get in until 9.30 but they were punctual when we arrived on time and many more tables got filled after we were seated. Service, food, everything....all top notch!"

"In a city with many great restaurants I must say August does stand out as one of the best!!
On this recent trip we dined at Emeril's, K-Pauls, Mister B's, Dickie Brennan's, Domenica, Borgne, & RioMar, and of them all we liked August the best!!
The blue cheese stuffed fried oysters were incredible.
I highly recommend the lamb loin.
And the August version of banana budding with peanut butter "dust" was amazing.
We will return to August!!"

"This was a great restaurant. The food was fantastic as was the service. Given we were going out to eat at so many places, we appreciated having the option of a $20 prixe fixe lunch option. Although, I was eyeing the rest of the menu and look forward being able to come back when I can afford the other options.
Great service. Fantastic food. Just watch out. The strawberry salad is TINY. Given all the eating and drinking you will do in NOLA, this is actually a good thing. You won't walk out hungry or too full to move around."

"We've been lucky enough to dine at many New Orleans restaurants and can easily say Restaurant August blew our minds and taste buds far beyond any other. The food was incredible. We were pleased from appetizer to dessert. I ordered the signature dishes of gnocchi and trout, which were out of this world. Service was okay, we've certainly had better and could definitely sense the larger groups with wine service were attended to with higher priority. Ambiance was decent. Most faults were easily forgiven by the time we'd completed dessert. Couldn't have been happier with the food. Highly recommend and hats off to the chef!"

"Lunch menu was interesting!
We enjoyed the appetizers more than the main courses..I ordered the trout amandine which was disappointing for a $36 plate. Uninspiring would be the word I would use to describe the meal overall. My expectations were not met given all the accolades this restaurant still continues to get. Probably would not go back as their are too many other gems out there waiting for me to discover."

"My wife and I ate at August as a "last meal" of our 4-day culinary adventure in NOLA. The food was superb! We started with foie gras 3-ways and the fried oysters. My wife kept it light with a salad as her main course and I had the Pacific Sablefish. For dessert, we shared the banana pudding, which was out of this world. We sat in the back room, which didn't do much for me from a decor standpoint, and the service was good. Next time we're in NOLA, we will certainly be back!"

"Our group of 8 from all regions of the country dined at Restaurant August during our industry event in New Orleans. Conveniently located 3 blocks from Hilton Riverside and Harrah's Casino. Service was wonderful, food was very creative and tasty.
