Pier W
Pier W, a landmark Cleveland restaurant, has been serving a critically acclaimed seafood and contemporary menu since May 11, 1965. Having recently undergone a $3 million interior renovation, the new Pier W resembles a sophisticated luxury liner cantilevered over Lake Erie offering dramatic views of both the Lake and the downtown Cleveland skyline.
We would like to request that shorts, flip flops and baseball caps are not worn to the restaurant.

"What was under Pier W's control was excellent. Service was both professional and friendly. The food, both seafood (salmon) and steak (14 ounce NY steak) was heated properly and delicious. The bread alone was unusually good and dsifferent. This is aplace to go for a romantic evening with that special person.
The only bad thing about the experience was something Pier W had no control over - the weather. The weather was cold (low 40's), blustery and a fog rolled in over the Lake that completely obliterated the viiew of Cleveland's skyline. Walking outside the restaurant by the Lake was not possible."

"My husband and I received a gift certificate and used it for brunch. What a fantastic experience! We had made reservations for the 9:30 AM seating, and were seated quickly. The hostess was very accommodating and seated us directly in front of the windows, with an unfettered view of downtown Cleveland. Our server, Amos, was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic, with familiar breakfast items as well as more exotic options (Wild Boar Pate, anyone?) The signature Bouillabaisse was particularly delicious; there is a reason the recipe has remained virtually unchanged since the 1960s. The only minor issue was the sound system; the speakers were problematic when they switched to the piano player."

"The view is the best in Cleveland. The menu which is oriented towards seafood is outstanding, especially the walleye tempura. The service is attentive without being intrusive. This is a unique and attractive restaurant that never disappoints."

"We drove 35 miles to celebrate our anniversary and requested a great view for our first visit to this restaurant. We were rewarded with the great view and an excellent dining experience. While we were there we talked about coming back for future special occasions. This was definitely worth the drive!"

"My wife and I went here for our 5 year anniversary. After a walk down Hollywood-style red carpet entrance and being greeted by the vallet, the rotating doors above the restaurant have access to a gorgeous view of the skyline of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie. You then have a choice to walk down modern design stairs or take the optional elevator, yes I said elevator, down to the restaurant where we were seated right away (with 8pm reservations). The live musician on the piano was amazing, the food was definitely top notch and the service was exceptional, prices were fair for the experience you get. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly at a requested medium rare, even though they specialize in seafood, I will definitely return to this gem."

"The location and the views are spectacular. The food does not match the view. I found the Sunday brunch to be so so. Specifically, a lot of the selections appeared not to be made on site - especially the pastries and desserts. If they are made in house - then I would suggest some inprovements. The overall brunch cleanliness and the attention to detail was lacking. For the reputation of Pier W and what the expectation was, I was disappointed."

"Vast selection - pretty venue - attentive service. I haven't been there for years ... And it was a nice "Welcome Back!" It's a little pricey, but the restaurant was full so the price doesn't seem to discourage people of all ages!"

"First word that came to mind. We have not been to Pier W in a few years. We were so glad that we left Akron at 4:45 pm to get there.
Our appointment was at 5:30; we arrived at about 5:35.
My wife said, "It was delicious. I loved it."
We both had the cedar plank salmon. The beurre blanc was incredible. Potatoes and Swiss chard were perfect. Clam chowder was smooth, creamy and loaded with clams.
The server was knowledgeable and attentive."

"Hard to grade on such a busy dining occasion as the crowd of families certainly raised the noise level over the rom. But conversation was still easy at our table. Service was good, wine choices were good, all entrees, salads were quite good. The lobster bisque was outstanding. Desert easily large enough to share and the mini-dessert just the perfect size to cap a lovely meal. Views of the lake shoreline are striking even in unfortunate weather and the determined sun offered us a lovely view, with dramatic lighting, of downtown Cleveland's skyline as the evening approached."

"My wife and I celebrated a wedding anniversary at Pier W and were very pleased with the service, food, and environment. The restaurant's claim to fame is the view (which is spectacular), but the service and general layout and design of the place made the atmosphere as well. The food was very good, though perhaps did not distinguish itself from other fine restaurants in Cleveland. The setting is really what sets this place apart."

"I really appreciate the staff giving us a table at the window and the special anniversary dessert. We love the food and the service. The lobster bisque was especially delicious. We have both had the lobster bisque at Tavern on the Green in NYC several years back, and your recipe topped theirs by far. It was literally the best soup we have ever eaten. So our compliments to the chef!!!
The only complaints I would make is that it was much too loud and many people were dressed informally. This took away from the ambience of the restaurant. However, the restaurant can not do very much to stop the behavior of immature guests."

"The ambiance alone was breathtaking. Our server was clean! (fingernails included) My mother and I felt like royalty. The service was so distinguished. The used dishes were removed in such a timely manner. The visual on the food was so beautifull you hardly wanted to eat it !! The Chef was a real charmer, he even brought out a sample of a new fish we were curious about.I am definately a foodie and I am an excellent cook......but if I could.... "I have been coming here for years, and have always, always enjoyed it. My husband and I come here for every birthday and anniversary. We'd come more often, but we travel an hour to get there! Always worth the trip. Before they redecorated the dining room, the best seats were by the window. Since they've opened up the dining room more, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Clemet the wine steward always takes good care of us, and our favorite server is Amos. I am in the restaurant business myself, so when I get the rare chance to go out, I want to make sure it's going to be a great experience, and at Pier W, it always is."

"Pier W is our go-to spot for romantic celebrations. We've been enjoying it for decades. The food, view, ambiance and service never disappoint! "I took my mom to Pier W for brunch and was very impressed. The view, the food, the service were all amazing. Even the brunch desserts were fantastic. Go early, it gets more crowded after 11am. "Great view of the lake on a clear night; just wish we had a better table to take in the view! Food was excellent and our waiter was knowledgeable & attentive but not obnoxious. My husband's surf and turf was excellent. I tried the fish special (golden snapper) at the suggestion of our waiter. It did not disappoint! Dessert was the sampler tray which we shared; it was very tasty and just enough not to feel too full.
We'll definitely be back for another occasion. Pier W is not inexpensive but the food, service and view justify the night! Add in the great piano player who mixed old standards with a David Bowie song and everyone was happy!"

"Although the food and service were both great and the view is always spectacular, I was disappointed with the table we were given. The hostess staff, knowing full well this was our 36th anniversary and thus a romantic evening for my wife and i, sat us at a table next to a party of 9, 8 of which were guys. Although well behaved, they were virtually eating with us as the tables were very close to each other. I didn't realize this until they arrived so perhaps if I had said something we could have been moved but you would think in light of the occasion we were celebrating, we would have been given a more private, more romantic table. Several appeared to be available."

"My husband and I had Sunday Brunch at Pier W to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food selection was fantastic and our server was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive but not overbearing. We never felt rushed. We recommend the Sunday Brunch to anyone looking for a classy, relaxing way to celebrate a special occasion."

"I enjoyed the view and the service was thoughtful and caring. The chairs are uncomfortable. For an expensive restaurant I would wish for comfort and not feeling that they want you to not stay so long so they can serve more diners.
Because of the view and the whimsical feel of the ship' prowl it has much potential for special occasions and party venues. But something is missing in the mix."

"Our second brunch at Pier W was just as good as the first. We were greeted by the courteous and welcoming hostesses, shown to our table with a stunning view of downtown Cleveland and Edgewater Park, and served by gracious and helpful servers. The quality of food was excellent, and the selections available for brunch were wide-ranging and offered something for every taste. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and will definitely be making return trips for a special meal in a special setting."

"My wife and I made our first trip to Pier W for our anniversary on this past Saturday. We didn't get there early enough to get a window seat, but still felt our location on the edge of the 2nd level seating was great! We really enjoyed our food and finished it off with a dessert sampler that was terrific too. We have in the past discussed going there for a dessert and or sitting at the bar. I think you will see us again in the near future. Thank you!"

"This has been my 4th time at Pier W and it was just as exceptional as every other time. I will continue to go there because I love the scenic view of downtown Cleveland and the outstanding food. Whether you get the seafood or the steaks they both will blow your mind on how well they melt in your mouth. It is expensive but for the quality of every aspect of the place it is well worth the price."

"While we had to wait for our table the wait was worthwhile. We had a window table with a magnificent view of downtown. The food was great. From lobster bisque and short rib pierogi, to the poached pear salads as starters, to the short ribs, lobster papardelle and filet mignon for entrees. The peaches and cream dessert was wonderful as well. It was a great evening."

"This was my first time at Pier W for dinner. I had high expectations based on the ambiance, view and price. The only thing that fell flat was the food. I had surf and turf. It was very good, but my filet was a bit over cooked. I am not one to complain so I didn't give them a chance to fix it."

"We were celebrating a special occasion, and made a reservation for brunch at Pier W. The selection encompassed both an extravagant breakfast, as well as a lunch with outstanding selections. We split, two of us ate breakfast, and one of us ate a hearty lunch. Everything we tried was delicious. The only caution I'd give is to get a reservation earlier than the 1PM we chose. Most of the selections were still bountiful, but some of the selections were running low (notably the mussels). Overall, Pier W's staff handles the very busy brunch time with efficiency and humor, it's relatively quiet, and the view is spectacular."

"We arrived early for our dinner reservation so we enjoyed drinks and appitizers in a booth in the bar. As our reservation time approached the hostess kept us aprised of the approximate wait time. Knowing that we were waiting for a window table we were seated with a view of the city across the lake. Our waitress was pleasant and service was timely but not rushed. I ordered the salmon on a cedar plank. It was cold on the plank side,warm not hot on the plate side. Upon mention to the waitress she sent the manager who quickly took my plate and within no time I had a new plate with a hot and delicious piece of salmon. Dessert was comped & our selections of strawberry infused cheese cake and chocolate cream puffs were delicious."

"We had not been back to Pier W for some time, but it is as top-notch as ever. I cannot think of another Cleveland restaurant that has the quality of seafood, the view, the service, and the ambience to compare. It was the perfect place to share a birthday dinner. My wife's strict dietary needs were addressed perfectly and graciously, without compromising the quality of her meal or dining experience. Many of the wait-staff seemed quite young, but they were professional in every way. Kevin was outstanding and efficient. We look forward to another excuse for a special dinner at Pier W."

"The service from the moment we walked in was excellent. Our table was ready right on time. Shawn our server was very attentive and helpful in explaining food items and making recommendations. The food was delicious and the portions generous however we finished our meals and still had room for dessert. The view of downtown Cleveland and the Lake was an added bonus.
