"We went for my husbands birthday. loved every single dish, all shared small plates. The confit goat belly with a bourbon butter sauce was delicious, I could have had 4 more servings of it. We will definitely be coming back"

"We had a fabulous meal--the roasted cauliflower, beet salad, pork shank and grilled chicken were outstanding. But even at a two-top, my husband and I could not carry on a conversation because the restaurant is unbelievably noisy. We would consider going back with friends, except we wouldn't be able to hear each other talk. I realize this is part of the appeal for some people, but it really put us off."

"Girl & the goat once again amazed & delighted our tastebuds. Our waiter had been with the restaurant since day 1. We decided to let him choose our plates. He did a fabulous job mixing up hot/ cold/ veggie/ seafood/ meats. We did request the Pig Face, my favorite, which he assured us, would have been his choice as well. We were not rushed, had plenty of time to enjoy our several tasting plates. Can't wait to get back."

"We went for the food, and were not disappointed! It was a fantastic dining experience. We had a last-minute fourth addition to our party and the restaurant was completely accommodating. Sharing a number of small plates, I was glad we brought that extra person. The staff paced our meal really well, and all of the dishes were tasty and very much worth the visit."

"GATG delivers modest novelty and very modest portions at high prices in a space where a dinner conversation is nearly impossible BECAUSE OF THE NOISE. Not sure what the fuss is all about, but goats travel in herds and so, apparently, do foodies."

"I was anxiously awaiting my reservation and G&G and it did not disappoint. Everything was perfect, from the service to the food and the cocktails. Every dish was perfectly balanced: none of the flavors were overpowering and each morsel was delicious. If you order the bread (which should really be included at a place like this...), the butter is absolutely incredible and dangerous!
My only complaint was that it was WAY too loud and the tables are very wide, so my so and I spent much of the meal yelling and repeating ourselves. Not a reason not to go back, but definitely not the place for a romantic evening."

"For one, I checked Open Table on Saturday night and of course Girl & The Goat had NO open reservations until July. I checked again Sunday morning and it just so happened that a reservation opened for Monday (the next day) at 7:15 p.m. Lucky, I know! So me and two of my friends show up on Monday and not only do we get just any table, we get the best table in the house, the Chef's Table!!! I couldn't have asked for a better Monday night. The food here is always good, no matter what I get its delicious. Always leave full. The servers and cooks are so knowledgable about the entire menu and happily answer questions. This is hands down my fave restaurant in Chicago. order the peppers, and pork shank if you go. Plus leave room for dessert."

"I was not able to get a reservation until 10 pm on a Friday, which I made about two months in advance. It was outstanding and worth the wait. The server took time to as questions of the four of us and make reservations. The four of us ordered twelve items. Every dish on the menu looked good and I would eat it again. The wine was also excellent."

"This a good trendy spot and hard to get a reservation. The food offering is not mainsteam but in the line of a trend in Chicago at least. Small sharable plates. It's uneven but interesting. great with a group to try many items. Service is good and fast (turnover,...). We were pleased with the scallops , not with the escargot ravioli. and the shank was ok . A few iems not available anymore... Most of the taste focus is on the side offering of each plate. I see them as large , reworked tapas with international flare. Is it not a highlight in my restaurant world. . Try it objectively and make your own mind, and then go travel... Good simple dishes , interesting mixes ,new but not "Haute gastronomie""

"Had an amazing dinner this past weekend. After working up quite an appetite, we arrived at G&G and were shortly escorted to our table, which turned out to be the chef's table looking into the kitchen. It was amazing to see the skill and efficiency with which the chefs operate there! The chefs werent the only ones to impress though as our server was so friendly and courteous, going well out of her way to be friendly and deliver a great experience. Oh yeah, and the food was ridiculously good too!!!"

"The food was great and it was an outstanding change of pace; where else can you order pig face... (Trust me it's good). Our service was a bit above average but was definitely not the best and most amazing service we have received. The only questionable part of Girl & the Goat was the hype. It was said to be one of the best restaurants in the city and we placed our reservations about 2 months out; unfortunately I do not think it was worth it. The cost of the food for the quality of food was outstanding. If you have the opportunity to go, you should, just do not listen to the hype. Make your own decision, is it worth a 75 day wait?"

"I have heard that you need a few months to get in this restaurant because it is a famous and popular restaurant. However, I am so disappointed. The only thing I feel good is "bread". Yes, no kidding, the bread you have to pay for is good. About other dishes, the only feedback I can give is salty. I have no idea why it is rated good, I cannot say this kind of salty food is delicious, every dish tastes similar, salty............... I would rather spend my time and money in other restaurants.

"We made our reservations far in advance and were very excited about going here while in Chicago. My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I had sent a Facebook message about it being our anniversary. When we arrived they took us to one of the two chef tables on the line. The staff from front to back were truly ambassadors for the concept. The food was some of the best we have ever tasted. Stephanie came over and took a picture with us; we are big fans of her career. Everyone created an "ambassador" in me as well.

I operate two restaurants in Louisville, KY and have been in the business for over 30 years. I would do anything to half of your staff. Great job. I took ideas and inspiration back with me."

"My husband and I went to this place because it was opened by a Top Chef winner and it sure lives up to the expectations! Every bite of food was absolutely delicious. It is a bit pricey, but nothing that was unexpected. Also, it was fairly loud so quiet conversation was out of the question. But the service was wonderful, our waitress was attentive, nice, and very willing to give suggestions. I would recommend this place to everyone!"

"Chef Izard, I expect a bit more from you. I travel 800 km and I pick your restuarant as my first restauant in Chicago. I order lamb belly, fried lamb dumping, roast pork face, chickpea fitter and roast octopus. The lamb belly was out of this world. However, The rest of them were average and the octopus was a bit over chared. Over all was ok, I had better food else where and I expect a lot from winner of top chef."

"This was our first visit to Girl and the Goat. I can place this meal and experience along the top 5 meals of my life. Our server, Gary, was absolutely spot on in his attention and recommendations. He struck that incredibly difficult balance between casual familiarity and absolute professionalism. The bus staff was there to take each plate as soon as we were done and fill our water whenever we needed, but they were never intrusive. And the food. Oh. My. God. We chose 6 dishes to share between the two of us (they are small plates, although all were ample) and every single one was unique and interesting, and above all, completely delicious. The cocktails were fabulous as well, Josh behind the bar was beyond helpful. Go. Now. Get the Sugo."

"This restaurant has been getting high praise and it is well-deserved. Everything I ate was spectacular with the exception of a salad item that was rather bitter. This is a great spot to try something you have never eaten before; it will be prepared well. Among other things, I had the fries, the cauliflower and the broccoli. They were superb. When this place is busy, it is very loud, making conversation difficult. But, it has great energy and is casual and sophisticated all at the same time."

"My friend had recommended this place to me before. Needing to place a reservation 2 months ahead was well worth the wait. I tried food items I would'nt have though of eatting before. One mis-hap came about, but was handled properly and professionally by the server and manager. I would absolutely recommend Girl & the Goat to anybody who has an interest in trying some new foods. One thing to keep in mind though, it is all small plates. It is pretty costly for not a lot of food, but well worth the price!"

"I give it a very good overall rating for the service and the atmosphere that the restaurant and staff creates. It was the food that surprised me. Two out of the four dishes were overly salty and overwhelmed the food. The other two were good, but considering the wait for a reservation and cost, it was not as impressive as we were expecting. Well, we had heard a lot of wonderful things about the restaurant and we were very excited to go. The dinner was lovely - all shared plates, each more wonderful than the last. Our waiter expertly directed us through the menu based on the preferences of our guests. We sat at a really cool large table - broken into two groups of 4 - back by the cooking line - it was wonderful - the staff were having a great time preparing the food - and the ambiance was warm and inviting yet felt industrial with its large timber posts, old timber tables and coal grates behind the bar. Go there. And fast."

"I took my girlfriend here for her graduation dinner and it was absolutely perfect. The reservation was made three months in advance and the anticipation was high, the Goat did not let us down. The staff gave us excellent wine pairing advice and I'm not quite sure there was anything on the menu that they could have offered that would not have been outstanding. Nevertheless, everything we tried was remarkable.
I'm looking forward to taking my parents in the summer for their first trip together into the city."

"Having made reservations over 2 months ahead and being susceptible to all the hype, I was not impressed. The food was good/decent, but not the level of awe-inspiring omg-ness I had anticipated. Service was great with a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had one of the breads to start, goat loin, green beans, pork belly, chickpea fritters, pork shank, and the budino for dessert with espressos. All of these were good but not worth a wait (whether an hour or several weeks) or the hype, sadly."

"The food was excellent for both taste and show. Excellent service and accommodations. I would recommend Girl and the Goat but caution diners that it is for good food and fun--but not for a traditional "meal." This isn't an appetizer, entree, dessert meal. This is a let-me-try-that-it-looks-good-try-this fun place with unique flavor combinations and artful small plates to share."

"My friend was visiting Chicago and I thought since the restaurant has many good reviews and its well known because of the chef that i should take her here but i really was disappointed by the food; he grilled octopus was really salty and i didn't like the Chicken we had as main course. the other orders were OK, nothing impressive."

"our meal and the girl & the goat started enthusiastically, but just kind of trailed off. the breads and veggie dishes were delicious, but the further down the menu we went, the more our energy waned. our meat dishes, the beef cheek and the goat loin, were truly disappointing ends to our meal. afraid to end on a sour note, we skipped dessert altogether.

if we ever went back, we would stick to veg plates. as omnivorous meat eaters at the girl & the goat, that's a darn shame."

"Made our reservations 3 months in advance, since we were coming from CA on a weekend trip. The restaurant called a day in advance to confirm our reservation, which I truly appreciated. The place was packed, but we arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated immediately. The food was AMAZING. Had the sourdough bread w/ garlic oil & ramp butter, goat empanadas, grilled broccoli, beef cheeks, pork shank, and the kulfi (for two, definitely went hungry). Everything was spot on. For the amount of food we had and the quality, I'd say this was a bargain. When we visit Chicago again I'll be sure to see what Chef Izard is cooking up!"

"I went wanting to love girl and the goat, but service detracted considerably. When you spend $163 for two people, you don't expect to repeatedly tell the server to leave your plate since you have not finished. pacing of plates and service was far too hectic. restaurant is poorly designed with tables on top of one another, and noise level is very high. by contrast I spent an evening a few nights later at frontera grill, while it was packed and we had to wait for a very pleasant hour in the bar area, we received excellent service. Food can be wonderful but service must be on par or experience suffers,hurried and rushed is not how you should feel at a restaurant of this caliber unless all they are interested is turning tables and making money."

"My second trip to G&TG - everything about as expected.

The food is worth the hype - everything I've had in two trips has been excellent (other than a personal preference against sweet potatoes). In truth, the menu is very reasonable/approachable as well. Two people can be in and out for under $100 pretty easily if you stay away from the booze. (But don't - it's worth it.)

Should make for a memorable dinner experience.

I think it is a credit to the staff and the team that even though G&TG is slammed from open-to-close every day of the week, the service and attention feels cognizant that it is a special occasion for most diners, and treat it as such without seeming exhausted or exasperated with first-timers."
