"This restaurant has a large outdoor patio and lovely gardens. Although it's located on a busy highway, you really don't hear the noise from the highway once you are inside or outside (on the patio). We were there on a Sunday, seated outside, on a sunny day. The table we were at had a large umbrella shading the hot sun for most of us, but a couple of us had to endure the sun in their eyes for the entire meal. Be sure to take hats and sunglasses if you're going to sit outside because although there are nice big umbrellas, there aren't enough to go around to provide shade for all the tables. The food was very good; servings small though. Dog friendly in the patio area, which is important to me so I can take my small dog along."

"Service was very slow and we felt forgotten. Our dinner arrived before our salads which the waiter never put in the order for our salads. We were there to celebrate a birthday, desserts were effortless (desserts seemed premade and doctored up) and nothing special. More than likely we will not return."

"Fabulous food at a reasonable price. Great ambiance and comfort as well as service.
If you want it quiet, so you can carry on conversations comfortably, it is best to sit
outside. Gets very noisy inside. Four of us sat outside, on the side, for dinner, and were able to
stay for a long time without feeling like we were being rushed out. I highly recommend

"We were taking a co-worker out to lunch to celebrate her birthday. The food was excellent, I had swordfish, which was on special that day. The plate was hot, the food was very hot, veggies were nicely al dente. The waiter brought the birthday girl a dessert of some exotic sorbet with a candle on it, which was on the house. That was a nice touch! then we also had a bread pudding which was also to die for!
The only reason I am not giving this experience 5 stars was that at the beginning, we could not find anybody to help us change our seats. When we sat down at one of the outdoor tables, it turned out that there was too much sun there, and we immediately decided to move inside. It was really impossible to attract somebody's attention."

"We both ordered the special filet and both were cooked incorrectly. We did notify the server who was very apologetic but we waited a bit to long. For them to correct mine. I was tired from traveling all day so they packed a $44 meal into a to go box and then charged us for them. The tab was$150 with tip and although the service was good the meal was not. I expected them to at least take one of the meals off but they didn't."

"Our party of three arrived at 4 p.m, earlier than our original dinner reservation. We were greeted by two friendly hostesses who accommodated us. As there was a wedding ceremony taking place in the courtyard outside, we joked about getting free entertainment with our dinner and enjoyed the proceedings as they unfolded. Then, we were promptly seated in the inner dining room.
Michelle, our waitress, was welcoming and provided excellent service throughout the meal. The menu is extensive, and we had a difficult time deciding what to eat. We ordered a hamburger, a crab and shrimp cake salad, a vegetable stir fry, and a maple candied yam side dish. The food arrived quickly, was prepared properly, and was delicious. The portions were generous."

"Food was overpriced for the quality.
Service - wine came out in new glasses and the glasses on the table were left. So there was an over abundance of glasses on the table. We had to prompt the staff to make room and remove the not needed glasses. Bread did not have a basket or plate. Staff member delivering bread seeing no place to put the loaf just dropped it on the paper table cloth. We reorganized our dishes to find a place for the bread.
Will not return - too expensive for the level of quality."

"We are locals and have been to Tarpy's several times and always had a good experience. On this occasion we decided to go out for St. Patrick's day instead of cooking like we normally do. I had the traditional corned beef and cabbage and was surely a mistake. It was a disaster on a plate. The portion of beef was small, thinly sliced and lacking in flavor. The broth that the dish was cooked in or at least served with was a step about dishwater. My wife had the halibut special which wasn't much better in terms of flavor."

"My wife and I visited Tarpy's Roadhouse while on a weekend getaway to Monterey. With our reservation, we walked in and immediately got a table. One thing that surprised me was that the hostess left an iPad on our table, detailing the restaurant's wine, beer, and spirits lists.
The menu looked good, and we opted to go with their braised pork shank and seafood ravioli. Both were amazing! Portions were generous, neither my wife nor I were able to finish our plates. The pork shank was tender and had a great bbq flavor, and the cheese ravioli (a special that night) had big helpings of salmon, mahi mahi, and shrimp alongside it.
Our waiter was very friendly at attentive. This place was a great find, and I highly recommend it."

Half of our party arrived a little early and the sweet little blonde hostess was so nice and attentive while we waited. "We went here for our anniversary and it was excellent. The lamb was amazing and the steak was very good. The service was absolutely top notch and we loved the romantic atmosphere. I would highly reccomend this place for a couple's dinner date."

"Booking online was easy and our table was ready when we arrived. The food was excellent and they have a very reasonably priced kids menu which included drink and dessert. This is hard to find in Monterey! It was the best money we spent on our whole vacation."

"My wife and I were married there and have gone back every year on our anniversary. We recently went there for a Valentines Day dinner and were not disappointed. I was able to easily make our reservation online and we arrived with our table ready to go for us. Our server was very polite and attentive throughout our dinner. Price wise Tarpy's is on the higher end but keep in mind this place is NOT an Applebee's by ANY MEANS! You definitely get what you pay for here in both the quality of food and service. Our appetizer and meals were excellent. The portions were not overbearing but filled us up and the flavor was spot on."

"This place is the best place in our neighborhood, we go there for all events, birthdays,etc. We also go there for after work happy hours and we all think the wine down Weds. are the best ever since athey pair the wine withthe menu and give you a deal on both the food and the wine, in short they are a divine establishment!"

"Since it was Valentines Day the place had more than usual business and maybe that accounts for the extremely ordinary food and lackluster service. My steak was far overdone and tough. There was not not one thing about the meal that stood out as being more than just barely passable. It was my first and I hope my very last time to dine there. I can see why the reservations were not full when I planned too late to go somewhere nice the day before the holliday. No knives on the table and had to wait 5 minutes to get them. The lobster bisc tasted like it was made from canned tomato soup (Campbells I think). The water was good! The wine was not,but that is entirely my fault.I thought $70 would get at least a decent bottle of wine, but I was wrong"

"The food was very good, and the service as well. We were treated well, with recommendations that answered our questions more than adequately. It is not cheap, but certainly not extravagant (although, I admit that is relative). It felt comfortable, not strained. It was a cold evening, and when we entered we immediately felt the warmth of the place. Not everyone considers that important, but for me it is.
I would definitely go there again. I was on a temporary stay in Monterey; if I lived there, I would go from time-to-time. It is not for "everyday" dining."

"Overall a great experience. I had the pork shank and it literally melted in my mouth; SO GOOD! My boyfriend had one of the steaks; they offered additional toppings, such as mushrooms, grilled onions, and also cheese (gorgonzola?) and he took them up on the offer. When his steak arrived, it was cooked to perfection - but SMOTHERED in the cheese. Most of it ended up going in the trash; with strong cheese like that, less is more!
We ordered a dessert to share and I also ordered a cappuccino; the dessert arrived, but my cappuccino didn't. I had to ask her for it, and some water.
I've never had a bad experience at Tarpy's - the food is always good and so is the service, although it did lack a bit this time."

"Tarpys has been in the area for a while now and seems to be the place you keep going back to for those off the hook dining experiences. Excellent food, good location and very good service. A tad crowded but that's what happens when you have a popular dining establishment. I enjoyed myself and so did my wife. We will be back."

"It was my first time back in over a decade, and it's only gotten better. There was a little mix up with our reservation at the beginning, but the place was very crowded as it was Valentine's Day. We were seated quickly in a nice corner room. I'm not sure if there are any bad seats in the place. The service was great, and the food outstanding. Large portions left me wishing I had room for dessert. Maybe next time. Prices are a little high, so be prepared, but for the area, this is one of the best restaurants I've been to."

"Tarpey's has been our "go to" restaurant for all occasions. Birthdays, Anniversaries, out with friends, taking people from out of town. We went to the bar for happy hour (lasts until 6PM) and had huge $3.00 well drinks and half price calamari. Can't beat it. Then had dinner. Received the usual excellent service and excellent food. Never had a bad meal here and we've been going here several times a year for many years. We had the mahi mahi and the pork chop - all perfectly cooked and big portions - had enough to take home for the next nights meal. Big wine selection - had the Zolo Cab - really good. Peanut Butter Mousse Cake for dessert- scrumptious- couldn't finish it - took it home too."

"We had a nice dinner at Tarpy's. We were seated promptly at a nice table along the windows in the main dining room. It was a busy night so a little noisy but that is to be expected during the AT&T golf tournament. We had great cocktails to begin the evening. My husband had the ribs which were good and I had prawns which were good but a little tough. We never felt rushed during the evening and enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. I would like to go back again during the Spring and Summer for lunch or brunch as it looks like a great spot to sit outside during good weather. It is a large restaurant and has great parking which is a big plus."
