Preservation Kitchen

Preservation Kitchen celebrates sharing a good meal with friends and family. We believe that all great things begin at the dinner table.

Preservation Kitchen preserves the traditions of regional cuisine and drink. The Northwest seasonal menu supports local producers, and uses sustainable, organic ingredients when possible to create the perfect “fine dining comfort food.” Pair your food with a drink from the extensive book of Wines & Libations to complete your meal.

Preservation Kitchen offers the elegance, warmth, and comfort of celebrating any occasion with the ease of feeling at home with family and friends, but without you doing any of the work. The restored historic 1916 Kaysner Estate was formerly home to Bothell's mayor and is located in a woodsy naturalistic setting. During the summer the outside patio is a relaxing area to grab a cocktail for the daily Happy Hour while enjoying the sprawling grounds.

"I think it might have been the end of the brunch shift because the food was not that great. The ingredients were fresh, but just not that great. I doubt we will try it again which is too bad because it seemed like it had potential."

"I went for brunch with my boyfriend and we were seated right away (we had reservations). He ordered Eggs Benedict (the best we've ever had) and I ordered the pancakes. The blueberry jam on the pancakes was a bit too tart, but I do have to give credit to Preservation Kitchen for amazing Bloody Mary's!!
I honestly would go back every Sunday for brunch and order Eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary's."

"Completely delicious food and great atmosphere. It was a wonderful place to go for Mother's Day Brunch. The front dining area was super noisy though so I am glad that we were seated in on of the back rooms. Really neat to see the private dining rooms on the second floor as well! I may want to book those for a special event and try their dinner menu."

"This ended up being the perfect brunch spot for an early Mother's Day. The staff was great with our 15-month-old tagalong, the food was good, and the setting--a large old house set on a lovely property--was quite nice. Biggest drawback: it's right on the highway and the view from the front porch is of the parking lot. But it looks like they might be working on that (construction was evident)--I just hope they add some giant bamboo stands to cover the noise and look. Great service and a perfect setting--plus it was just the right distance for three people meeting from Whidbey, Seattle and Renton."

"Visited for lunch with friends. Food was good to great. I enjoyed the wild boar ragu and the polenta fries. The polenta fries paired magically with the hefeiweizen in my glass. Nice beer selection. I did not look at the wine list. When the weather is nicer I will return for an outdoor dining experience. Service was very good. The only black mark is the level of noise. It became impossible to have a conversation at our table without raising our voices. I was quite shocked it was so loud. While it is good to have tables full there needs to be some noise dampening installed. Not sure what that is but something to help the noise."

"The PK recently merged with their Alehouse property so is a bit of a hybrid. The downstairs Alehouse provides a great place to wait for your table, and is more welcoming than the old lounge area which always felt a little claustrophobic. The restaurant side (PK) is pretty much the same layout. In the past we've always eaten downstairs, which has been "energetic" to downright noisy. For our most recent visit, our party of four was seated in a private room upstairs. The upside was it was quiet and we could converse easily. The downside was we occasionally felt as if we'd been forgotten. But overall the service was good, and the food was as great as always. Take chances and select something you are not familiar with!"

"We went for restaurant week and the portions were very generous. The setting was a super cute cottage. My favorite dish was the dark ceasar salad with kale and swiss chard instead of romaine. I had some of the red snapper and that was delicious with a dry rub. My pork loin with risotto had good flavor but the plating was not too appealing. I"

"Our meal was delicious and Preservation Kitchen always has a great selection of local Washington wines which we enjoy! The only negative feedback I would mention is that the menu posted on the Seattle Restaurant week was out of date and when we visited the restaurant there was about 50% of the items listed through the restaurant week website. I had my heart set on scallops but ended up going with the seared pork, which was delicious and may have been better than the scallops!"

"Waitress only wrote one of our two orders down. So we ate at different times. Went there for Easter brunch, but could not order any drinks requiring a blender because they don't have one. Salmon was under cooked in the center meaning it went straight from the frig to be cooked with out being brought up to room temp. They like to act like they have the persona of a fancy place yet they don't measure up."

"This restaurant is very near us or might not see us again. The food is good and so were the sparkly brunch cocktails, when we finally got them. I had the NW Benedict, with smoked salmon, which was delicious. My friend's smoked duck omelet was also good, though she said the duck was somewhat dry (not skimpy, though).
They may need more waitstaff. We were there at 1:30 on a Sunday. We were given menus and seated, then waited several minutes for a server to take our order, then quite a few more before our food came--but this wait was not so long that we wouldn't have been fine with it, had we been given our drinks. Only when we got our entrees did we see a waitress again and after I inquired about our drinks, we finally got them."

"I've been to the Preservation Kitchen for lunch on several occasions, but never for dinner. It is easy to miss the restaurant and drive by it, which I did once again. We got the last parking space in the lot. Our dinner companions were about 15 minutes late because they could not find parking.
I ordered the stuffed chicken breast. I think the kitchen was having a bad night. The chicken was overdone and the vegetables were also past their prime. It might have been sitting under the warming lamp for too long. I didn't send it back because this was a business dinner on an expense account and I didn't want to make a fuss.
The meal came to $128 for 4 without drinks or a tip. Given the quality of my meal, I don't think it was a good value.

"First time dining at Preservation. The restaurant is a beautifully converted red stone house, with a very nice garden all around. I can only imagine what it will look like in summer bloom. There is a bar/pub area that I've heard was added on. It definitely stands apart from the rest of the restaurant, and while noisy I did not hear it from the dining room. We were early for our reservation, so we stopped in the bar for a drink. Unfortunately, the bartender forgot the order I placed so we still had not gotten a starter drink before the host found us. The main restaurant had a great wine list and fantastic menu. I can very my recommend the duck breast and fillet. All four courses were spectacular and I look forward to visiting again!"

"The food was great, very light and flavourful. Ambience is nice--if the could provide more of a sound barrier between dining room and the pub-side, it would be quieter and therefore more pleasant for dining. I would definitely return for dinner, special occasion, or with friends."

"Love, love, love the 3 for $15 deals. I opted for a simple dish for lunch, because my friend and I had a lot of talking to do. The Thai penne pasta was simply wonderful. And the spinach salad was really amazingly good. Preservation Kitchen never fails to please. Thanks!"

"I love this restaurant. I love the building, the menu, the location, the food, and the cocktails. We are life-long foodies and really enjoy the variety, creativity and quality of the food.
The only non-loveable thing is the noise when it's noisy - which is not all the time. Because of the hardwood floors and surroundings, noise does bounce around.
Other than that, Preservation Kitchen is a real gem. Highly recommend."

"We went for the 3 courses for $30 deal. The good news, most places on the Dine Around program offer a starter, an entree, and a dessert. They offered an appetizer, a soup/salad, and an entree. We are not much into dessert, so this was great. Also, they do not charge a corkage fee when you bring in a Woodinville wine that they do not have on their wine list.
On the negative side. I ordered the scallops for my entree. There were only 2. Yes, this was a promotional deal, but as an entree, there should have been more. Also, the server was not very experienced."

"We have been driving past Preservation Kitchen, many times a week, for the entire 2 years we have lived in WA. I decided to make a reservation for our 16th anniversary. It was absolutely delicious, we both found items we liked on the 3/$30 menu. The atmosphere is really nice in a 1917 house, the staff was very nice and knowledgable. It was great, my wife and I were amazed we waited so long to eat here, we will be back for years to come."

"The food is amazing and the place is cozy. The staff was friendly but slightly disorganized. However, I asked my waitress what she recommended but she said she had not had a chance to taste the food yet even though the place had already been open for an hour that evening. Unexcusable.
Also, I was very turned off by the fact that we were given pats of butter still in the foil wrapper with the brand name on it. Even worse, this restaurant prides itself in being conscious of food sourcing but this was a very large non-organic brand. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is the first place I have been to in years that still had the butter in a foil wrapper. It is not a cheep restaurant. The bill for 2 people came to about $140.

"Our waiter was not very knowledgeable about the wine list, which is extensive and pricey.
I ordered the pork loin, and, since there was an asterisk beside it about the dangers of undercooked meat, assumed that it would arrive medium or medium well. It was underdone. The puree and kale thing didn't quite come together, and the kale was tough.
The spinach and beet salad was smothered in balsamic vinegar, with tiny cubed beets under mounds of large spinach leaves with the vinegar floating on top. Again, the salad just didn't quite come together and was difficult to eat. I've had this same (roughly) salad at Il Forniao and it was super. However, the dessert, a chocolate tort with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, was very good.

"We went to the Preservation Kitchen seeking a quiet place for a date dinner. It was cozy next to the fire, but they put us at a table in a room with a group of 6 or more people who were, naturally, a little loud at times and we had trouble hearing each other during conversation. The openness of the room made it a little echo-y and diminished the intimate atmosphere I was seeking."

"Valentines Day is a difficult night in the Restaurant Business. But, Preservation Kitchen got it right. Having a prefix menu helped this, I am sure. As a Gluten Free diner, they are always helpful. The food was great, and we had a wonderful evening."

"This is a popular spot for my wife and I to dine. We usually come for breakfast which is always delicious. They are a little pricier for dinner but it was a great spot for valentines night. The food here is always amazing. I had the bison which was so tender I swear it was sous vied. My wife had the salmon and said it was the best salmon she has ever eaten (I had a taste a she was right). We love the service here, they are very honest and
knowledgeable and so excited about the food they serve. I am constantly surprised that this restaurant is not always jam packed because if more people knew about it I am sure it would be.

"This is the second time I've been here for brunch and I definitely wasn't as "wowed" as I was upon my first visit. Our server wasn't very friendly, but what I was most disappointed with was the BACON. The first time I came here for brunch, the bacon was so AMAZING! But this time, it was soggy and limp, really gross actually. My friend ended up sending hers back, and they brought her out BURNT bacon, and then asked if everything was ok when she didn't eat it. You could smell the burnt and her bacon was black, that's how bad it was. For the price of the food, I would expect it to be more consistent. However, the mimosas were great!"

"While the food was good, it was overpriced. For the same amount we could have gone to the Palisades and had better food. I have had a better meal for a third of the price of this dinner. It was good, but I won't be going back."

"This was our first visit since they opened. Valentine's Day with a set menu. The food was very good. Salmon prepared perfectly, the vegetarian dish was worth returning for. Not too often does the salad make you have to chose between finishing it and possibly not have room to finish your entree. We were seating in the upstairs dining room, which was very quiet and comfortable. Service was Ok, I figured since we were upstairs (only customers) that we would have sporadic service. And we did, I had to ask for the wine list three time with three different people. All four of us said we would definitely return due to the exceptional food. Bothell needs a place like Preservation Kitchen!!"

"Food was really delicious. However, a few issues with the service. Went on Valentine's Day, so I made a reservation. When we got there, our table wasn't ready yet and the hostess couldn't tell us how long it would be. We decided to have a drink in the bar while we waited, but it was overflowing with other people waiting (and very small because it shared the room with tables of 4+ that were empty because it was V Day). Ended up sitting on a tiny bench in a walkway. Hostess couldn't remember who was who on the list. Our waitress was very nice but mixed up our orders twice, and they were out of the main course I ordered. The dish they improvised for me was delicious. Will go again and see if the service is better!"

"My wife and I really enjoyed Preservation Kitchen. The atmosphere was quaint and romantic; the service was excellent and so was the food.
We also thought the prices were good. The wines were more reasonably priced than a lot of similar quality restaurants. Overall, a good value.

"I've had good food here, but the valentines menu wasn't as good as I would have liked. We were sat about 30 minutes after our reservation as well. The soup reminded us of baby food. I had a pit in my olives. My crab cakes were good but my husbands oysters were bland. The tangerine salad was bitter and the tangerines were not properly segmented. I had the bison stip which was good, but the potatoes were bland and the vegetables were under cooked. My husband had the co que vin which was okay, but nothing special. The pot de creme was great! The chocolate dipped fruit was okay but it was difficult to eat because the chocolate was really hard. Overall there was too much food. We were really full by dessert and I didn't eat all course"
