Pangaea is a two-tiered restaurant with an eighteen foot high ceiling, situated on Bay Street in the heart of Bloor/Yorkville. Established in 1996, Pangaea can seat 150 guests, and has Private Dining areas that can accommodate

"Had been awhile since we'd been to Pangaea, and we were happy to return. As always we were warmly greeted by Peter and felt to be at home. Because we were going to the opera, we took an early seating at 5PM, and there was only one other diner when we arrived, so very quiet. By the time we left at 7, there was a little more life, but still sparse for a Saturday evening. My wife was disappointed that the beet salad that been on the menu our last two visits was no longer available, but we enjoyed the meal immensely. I particularly enjoyed the warm mushroom salad followed by the ahi tuna. Fantastic!"

"We went for dinner on a Saturday night at 730. There were a lot of open tables. The food was good but nothing special that I couldn't make in my own kitchen (and I'm only a half decent cook). Very overpriced for what it was. 3 glasses of wine, 3 small salads, 3 small mains, 1 dessert, 3 cups of coffee - $260. I don't mind paying the money but the food did not match the price."

"Went to Pangaea for lunch during Winterlicious. We found the appetizers and the main courses to be satisfactory, but not impressive. Not sure if their regular menu would be better. The desserts, however, were AMAZING! We had the panna cotta and the pecan pie. Both were absolutely delectable! I'd definitely go back for brunch or afternoon tea, just to have their desserts and tea :)"

"Once again I returned to my favourite Toronto haunt. Even after a year, they know my name and the service and attention is always exquisite. The menu is innovative and the food excellent. All my party loved what they ate. The wine flowed as did the conversation in a restaurant that is spacious enough to hear everyone clearly and not listen to other diners. A superb evening!"

"We have dined at Pangaea quite frequently, and expect quality food and service. Our most recent visit was very disappointing. The food was good, but the service was rushed and disorganized. The first two courses came within 1 minute of each other; the wine came in the middle of these two courses. Bread came later. The service was cavalier and the primary server inattentive. Our complaint was met with a brush-off as to how it was all the kitchen’s fault, when bad service is just bad service and not to be blamed on anyone else. The server's apology was desultory and insincere. That server should be properly trained or fired for dragging Pangaea down."

"Good service, good food. Tables are spread out so you can have a business lunch where you can actually talk and hear people. There are several areas that can be closed off for group type lunches. It is fairly expensive for lunch. Good wines by the glass. Washrooms are on the second level and can only be accessed by stairs. Private Room on the second floor as well. Food is creative and brilliantly displayed."

"Hard to categorize this excellent restaurant, not sure "Contemporary American" tells one anything useful. My wife and I have been going two or three times a year for what seems like a decade. On our last visit we both had the liver which was the best we had ever tasted. Clearly this chef knows something that other chefs don't know.
We have always found the staff friendly and attentive.
Interestingly, we find the good restaurants on Open Table crowd out the others we might consider. I book from my iPad once a trip to a restaurant is decided. Of course, I am rarely far from my iPad, which I much prefer to a mobile phone."

"I've been dining at Pangaea Restaurant for quite a few years now at least 2-3 times a year. Every time was an excellent experience. However this time was close to one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in years. There was about a 20-minute delay on the reservation I had. It was busy because it was Winterlicious so not the major issue. The service at the table was terrible; we waited almost 40 min before our order was taken. That’s the major issue amongst others. Anyway, sent an email to the restaurant about the experience. NO RESPONSE from them to make it right. So I’m now posting this bad review. Which pains me, as this was one of my favorite restaurants in Toronto!"

"Reserved a late lunch for myself, my Husband & 16yr old daughter. The food was lovely, well presented, flavorful. Our waiter was very tired but extremely polite. The only complaint was about the only other couple in the restaurant who were extremely loud. The female kept swearing and was very very obnoxious. Although it was not Pangaea fault, we would have liked to have been offered another table. We quickly ate and vacated."

"Food very good. The appetizer quail had two quarters which was a pleasant surprise. The mixed 'nest' underneath (celery root, wild mushroom and crispy potato salad, watercress, lemon truffle vinaigrette) was a perfect blend of texture and taste. Never had anything like it. Would have given the food an outstanding rating had the pork belly been less fatty. It came 80% fat, 20% meat. Yes it's pork belly but I had been served this dish with much more meat. When I gave this comment to the waiter, I got a condescending: "well it IS pork belly!" The portion served to me at Pangaea should not have been given to a customer. The quail appetizer saved the meal."

"Best Restaurant in Toronto - C'était magnifique!This time we shared the Dungeness Crab Cake & our “favorite” Grilled Calamari followed by Provimi Liver [the only place in TO we would order it] and what else can I say about our Dessert Banana Coconut Cream Tart as a former Konditor/ Confectioner and Chef… Merci beaucoup Lothar & Brigitte"

"Food was superbly prepared and flavours perfect but the portion size of the appetizer (fried fish - 2 to 3 mouthfuls) and main courses (1 scallop sliced into 3 piieces) were very small. The desserts were normal size. The cinnamon pannacotta and the maple nut tart were delicious. The flourless chocolate cake was mediocre. The waiter was horrible. He spoke way too loud, was not attentive (not overly busy - Super Bowl night), and was rude...a very odd choice to have such a waiter working in a upscale restaurant."

"It was my first time there and had heard great things. Our server wasnt the nicest of ladies, and the food was ok. The dinner portions for winterlicious were just tooo small. I understand since it was winterlicious that was the reason, but food didnt taste out of this world either.
Desserts however were really good. People have talked about Banana dessert which was on ala carte menu - Maybe i'll try it next time. Hopefully non-winterlicious experience will be better."

"I went to Pangea for Winterlicious 2013 with my bf. I had the beet salad, gnocchi and chocolate torte. The salad was not what I expected in terms of presentation, but it was very delicious. My main was also unusually presented, but was one of the better gnocchi dishes that I've had outside of my Nonna's kitchen (which is high praise, if any of you have Italian grandmas!). The cake was a bit too rich for my taste, but good. My bf was impressed by the potato soup, but not so much by the main. He had cap steak and said it wasn't anything special, and the cut was very fatty. The cheese plate for dessert was a win though, and we both enjoyed some of their loose leaf tea. It was busy when we arrived around 1, but quieted down by the time we left."

Its location is perfect, downtown chic Yorkville area. Also, the interior is fantastic, looks like a hotel restaurant!
