"Very different spot for a restaurant. The waitstaff was professional. The noise level was amazing - so quiet you could have a normal level conversation, but didn't feel like everyone was listening. Perfect. Only downside was not a good spot to have a pre or post dinner drink - not much of a bar. Food was great."

"Chef's Station achieves the perfect balance between quality of food (which is very good), ambiance and price. It has a unique setting which adds to the atmosphere. It is the only restaurant where my son and I have dined more than once when I visit him from out of town. I look forward to bringing my wife here when we both make the trip in the near future."

"At the risk of sounding like an old fogie, it's refreshing to find a restaurant where you can converse at a normal decibel. I never understood why having to yell at your dinner partner means trendy. Restaurants have to compete at many different levels, and Chef's Station meets all the tests, but here's a novelty...I don't believe I've seen a male, professional wait staff since Berghoff's."

"This is definitely a place to go for good food and service. If you want to enjoy a conversation, the ability to talk in a normal tone and volume was particularly refreshing."

"Chet's Station has the most reliable top quality food on the North Shore now that Carlos has closed. I had the Betsy foie gras this side of France. Also the soft shelled crabs were lightly breaded and perfect. Who ever had a rhubarb soufflé before? Wonderful."

"The service was absolutely horrible. My server could have cared less that we decided to dine there. Server made us feel like we were bothering them when asking for more bread, coffee, or water. Not a single smile or respect of our experience. Simply brutal."

"The food and the decor are mismatched - the food is creative and up to date, but the surroundings are so old school. 2 problems with our meal : a waiter (not ours) refused to serve us butter (!) when we asked for it, and one of our party discovered a candy wrapper on his plate halfway through eating his salad. Unfortunately, both of these incidents overshadowed the good parts of the meal."

"Everything about the evening was outstanding, starting with the decor of the restaurant. Our reservation was right on time, the staff was friendly, the service was impeccable, and the food delicious. The special was monk fish in a lobster sauce with vegetables, which was excellent. Someone else had the meatloaf, an old stand-by that's always good. And two people had the arctic char, which they enjoyed. The soup was a cream of ramps, which got an A+. It was such a nice dining experience that I've already emailed a couple of friends about it. And oh yes! there's free parking a block and a half away!"

"We hadn't been to the CS for a while. There have been some small changes. No more jean pocket silverware holders. The food was very tasty and nicely presented. The wine list has a range of options. The service very personable and professional. It ain't cheep but a nice fine dining option in Evanston."

"We actually ended up at Chef's Station because some of the 'trendier' restaurants were too full and how glad we were that this happend. Although I would not say the chef is striving to innovate with the menu, the food was uniformly well executed and nicely presented. I had a lovely Tuna Tartare to begin with followed by an absolutely delicious monkfish that was perfectly cooked and in a broth that demanded a second round of breath to mop up the plate. Finally I had a trio of Gelato. The vanilla was a little underwhelming but the chocolate chocolate was perfect and the salted caramel will be a thing of my dreams for months to come. It's a perfect place to visit with friends because the ambience is peaceful."

"It was our anniversary and the food was great. I felt the appetizer was a little overpriced and was dissappointed that a salad was not included with the meal. That being said, our experience was very good and would recommend this restaurant to our friends for a special evening.?"

"Very good food - very nice service. Kind of an older crowd (we are in mid 30s and were probably 20+ years younger than next youngest group) but nice and quiet and comfortable. Would go again."

"I went on Valentine's Day with my wife and daughter. They were serving a set menu of 6 courses. I should have inquired about the menu. While I thought the food (when it was finally served) was good, a number of the courses were items that neither my wife nor daughter would have ordered. The biggest problem was that it took almost 3 hours for the meal to be served. I needed to constantly inquire of the server when the next course would be served and after a while he would just ignore me. All the while the owners seemed to stand by oblivious to what was going on. Our experience was not unusual that night as there were constant grumblings from the other patrons around us."
