Located in Hawthorne"s historic Degray house, Bottagra Restaurant opened its doors in early 2008. What was once used as an encampment for General Lafayette's troops during the Revolutionary War has been transformed into a modern, elegant restaurant with the feel and charm of a Tuscan villa. Chef-Owners Robert Vicari and Carlo Carbonara have fused their extensive restaurant experience together to offer a variety of dishes hailing from both the northern and southern regions of Italy. "We dines for our anniversary and were pleased with both the choices and our final selections. The mango salad was nicely done and ample to split. I was pleased to find the monkfish dinner nicely presented and tasty without being drowned in salt -- the cognac risotto flavors spoke for themselves. The carrots were a little hard though. The tuna sesame soba noodle dinner was also nicely done, good sized portion and the flavors were just right. We don't dine here enough -- always pleased. Good wine list as well."

"Although noisy - the good was well worth it. Shrimp with goat cheese appetizer was very special. But.... the snapper with lobster and corn ragu was fantastic!!! Deserts? Well, who could resist brioche bread pudding with vanila sauce and donuts in hot nutella!!"

"Went for dinner on a Thursday night, seated quickly, drink order taken right away, specials told to us and then the waiter disappears for almost 15 minutes. Fairly long wait between courses. The food was only fair we were not impressed and probably would not return. We did say this the first time we ate there several years ago but our friends wanted to try it do we thought we would give it another chance. For the price and quality I would go elsewhere."

"I would have never known about this restaurant if not for a friend. Food is delicious!! Not your typical Italian restaurant that just has boring chicken parm and pasta. Super fresh seafood! Service was impeccable and our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. My only complaint would be the valet service. It was horrible! We waited 5 minutes in our car for the valet to stop goofing off and notice there was someone waiting. Again on the way out the valet boys were fooling around in the corner and we had to wait for them to notice us. As he got up to get our car one of the other boys kicked him! I don't know if this restaurant uses an outside valet service but they should really consider switching!!"

"This was our first time at Bottagra, but it certainly won't be our last. Everthing about the evening was delightful. It was a quiet Sunday night, and we were treated with much attention. The food was delicious and the service first rate. I would highly recommend this restaurant for for their unusual specialty cocktails and extensive menu."

"Lump crab appetizer was excellent, the rice balls were outstanding. Home made gnocchi was good. We ordered the cappuccino dessert that came with fresh zeppolies..I would go back just for these. My wife is gluten free and they were very accommodating. One annoying thing was that we wanted to put an appetizer order in while we were still deciding what else to order and the waiter said that he wasn't allowed to do that. Also, we were at the bar before dinner and ordered 2 glasses of Pinot noir, we saw that previous reviews said the wine was watered down. It did look watered down, but it definitively wasn't. I saw the bartender open the bottle. .however, bartender did short my change by $10. I got it back though after waiving him down."

"This was my first visit to Bottagra Restaurant, this past Sunday and certainly will not be my last. I had a travelzoo dinner voucher for 4 people. We were seated in the cozy wine room, next to the fireplace, as the owner was having a private party in the main dining room. The maitre d' and waiter were very accomodating. The food was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"My family has always enjoyed dining at Bottagra for special occasions (in the smaller intimate rooms) or just anytime. Food and service are always good. The food was good on this visit, but the service was lacking. It took a long time to get each course and we were not offered drinks until we were sitting for an ample amount of time. It was a busy for a Saturday night, but we may stay away on weekends after this visit."

"The server was clearly put off that we had a voucher purchased from Travelzoo. She was confused as to what to do. I explained that it's a form of advertisement for the restaurant to bring in new clientele & added that if the patron has a good experience, they'll come back and recommend others. When I asked what the specials were, she said she thought we weren't allowed to order them. I then explained that anything above the voucher value would be charged to us. While ordering my partner added some "extra" items, she remarked "you know that you'll have to pay for that" The food was actualy very good,for me service is just as important, unfortunately the server blew it. We won't be back, there are so many other great places to go."

"The meal was great, but we were seated 30 minutes after our scheduled Opentable reservation time. The servers were responsive, but our meals took nearly an hour to arrive. We weren't able to order dessert because we had to leave to catch a movie. Opted for a box of Junior Mints instead."

"When we arrived, the place was quite busy as it was the Saturday after Valentines Day. It took awhile to get a drink and I also noticed the place was very noisy. A curtain separates the Bar area from the dining area. We had to wait quite a long time for our 7:45 reservations. Probably over 45 minutes. The waiter whose name was Max was very charming and good at his craft. The bread arrived burnt with no butter which we had to ask for in addittion to replacement bread. The service was good. The food was very good. We sat at a two person table in the middle of the room along with many other two person tales. Once again the place is very noisy and we had a had time hearing each other across the table"

"We went here for a Valentine's dinner and again was not disappointed. The food and service was excellent. I love that the chef is flexible with dietary requests and that the food continues to be excellent and the portions generous. I have been here 4 or 5 times and have not had a bad experience.
