Tori Shin is Not your ordinary grilled chicken definitely not your usual Japanese restaurant.Bincho-tan(charcoal) yakitori, organic chicken, fine sake and sho-chu.In NewYork, there are a growing number of Yakitori restaurants, but Tori Shin stays true to it"s roots, and true to the art.Tori Shin is the only bonafide yakitoriya(chicken griller)with over 40 different unique chicken skewers offered. And Tori Shin remains the only yakitoriya directly linked to a highly-respected, and successful yakitoriya in Tokyo, Japan. We are proud and grateful of compliments from our Japanese patrons as being true-to style of the Tokyo food culture scene, but our dream was to share this Tokyo experience with others. Since the beginning, our mission was to promote the most authentic,Tokyo stile yakitori experience, using the highest quality ingredients, hence the name Tori Shin:True chicken. Seatings are mainly at the counter, with cook performances.
"I have been to Torishin many times. Unfortunately, this time the service was very poor. We had to ask for water several times and they finally brought us water after 20-30 min. Getting a refill was even harder.... Even the Sake we ordered took forever to arrive at our table. The food which is usually very good was brought to us some what cold most of the time as it was sitting on the counter waiting for a server to bring to our table. Maybe the place, which is small, has gotten too crowded for them to provide good service."

"I've been here a number of times when I have friends who are visiting from out of town - and have always had a good experience. The yakitori is really well done and prepared, and my favorites are the aorta, gizzard, chicken meatballs, and the chicken oyster. First-timers should try for the omakase menu (or chef's selection) which is reasonably priced and includes a selection from the 'special skewer' section. Generally you are not able to choose the skewers even then, although you are allowed to make requests (although it is not guaranteed that they will be able to accomodate you) and tell the chef what you don't eat. They have a good selection of sake as well to complement your meal. In short, go with an open mind and empty stomach!"

"This is my second visit to Tori Shin and it was even better than the first. This is some of the greatest food and sake that I have ever had, and the service is perfect. It's definitely pricey, but well worth the expense. And I rarely say that."

"All food is too much salt ! Chikin is not jucy. Frozen yakitori are better this restaurant. We don't find reasons why they got Michelin star? Poor food poor service!"

"Excellent food! One of the best Yakitori places I have eaten in many countries. Service is good. Ambience is smoky at times, exhaust system can be improve. Food quality is great and surely will return next time I'm back in NYC."

"Your dining experience at this place is going to be greatly affected by where you are seated. If you, like me and my company, are seated in the corner behind a large pillar almost completely obstructing the view of the rest of the restaurant then the ambiance is completely lost.
I will admit that the skewers of inner thigh meat was fantastic. However at $55 for the Omakase I shouldn't have to have two skewers of great taste and the rest being of equal quality to anything I could find in Chinatown at one tenth of the price. I'm perplexed as to why this place has a Michelin star."

"Fantastic food and service! I've eaten at Torishin many times and it is my absolute favorite place for Yaki Tori. A recent trip to Tokyo confirmed my opinion of the excellent quality of this restaurant. It is as good as you'll find in Tokyo."

"Really dissapointed, was so looking forward to a great meal, sadly didn't go that way. Started with the Waygu beef, which was so dry we had to chew on it, and ofcourse we ordered 2 of these since we love Wagyu, what a waste. The chicken was so so, not bad but not a wow either, nothing to go back for. The veges are the only good thing here! The service was non existent, would be better if we could order and go pick it up from the grill ourselves. Don't waste you time and money here, there are a gazillion other places to eat in this wonderful city!!"

"The food was great but we had seat by the door and every time someone came in (which was every few minutes in this busy restaurant) a cool gust of wind came with them. Really cold and distracting! The service was uneven between attentive and very polite to distracted and overwhelmed.
The food was delicious and the saving grace, with great sake and shochu seletion"

"The food is amazing, and the service is superior. The staff helps you through the menu (try the Chef's tasting menu) and explains each dish as they bring it out. It is a fantastic environment and it is fun to be sitting right by the bar / BBQ station and watch them prepare everything right in front of you. Overall a fantastic spot."

"You have to wait for a while even if you make a reservation. In spite of I made reservation at 7pm, I could sit a table at 8:15pm. However, I love their "Dashimaki Takago". but if you want to eat it, you need to order Dashimaki when you open the door. because they need 30min to one hour to cook."

"Best customer service, we arrived a hour early due to mis-calculating the traveling time, they still gave us a table as soon as they can without having us to sit an hour long^^"

"Food comes out very good overall. But sometimes there's some disappointing skewers served up (unevenly cooked). Other patrons told me rumors that the old chef had left. Our party, all previously having dined here, all agreed that this time was a little lesser experience. Will try again in the hopes that the kitchen returns to its previous high grade quality. (Have marked it as "notable wine list" but really mean to say "notable sake list")"

"Some of the chicken skewers were cooked to perfection, however my wagyu beef was over cooked, and since they use the same sauce on everything, all the skewers taste very similar considering the flavor profile. Allow at least 2-3 hours for dinner, because its extremely slow. We had the chefs menu, which promised 7 meat skewers and 3 vegetable skewers, they announced final skewer at our skewer number six, after a talk with the chef, they served us two more vegetable skewers, and within 1.5hrs we were only served 4 skewers. I've been here many different times, I'd say they have their good days and bad days, be there for a late dinner, as there are less people and better services offered."

"The food and the ambiance are great, all a bit tight but that adds to the fun of the place. Main problem was that I had a confirmed reservation and still had to wait 45 minutes till the table was ready."
