"Luella definitely is not the most eccentric foodie spot but the food is really good and solid, especially for vegetarians. The pizza, however, was not good. I love the neighbourhood. In terms of pricing, Luella is overpriced for what they offer. Flora in oakland has a similar prices and similar cuisine but the food is 10 times better. But I guess sf is different."

"We took three friends to Luella for dinner on Saturday night and had a wonderful round table in the back room that enabled good conversation. All dishes were excellent; you have to love a chef who thinks two pieces of delicious fried chicken is a great APPETIZER. Good wine selection. Yummy desserts."

"Place was a great find. Not expensive by San Francisco standards, but definitely not on the cheap if you order drinks and appetizers. Also very quite if you get there on the early side. Overall, I highly recommend if you are looking for a new spot."

"I had the Beef Wellington which was really good. The menu is very limited so my wife decided to try the Pork Shoulder Coke A Cola. Should have known better. The pork was cooked to perfection. The reduced coke sauce was just a little too sweet and the addition of Mint really hurt the dish. I would definitely give this place another try but don't think my wife would."

"Luella was the surprising gem and the best food we had on our trip to San Francisco. My husband said they had the best oysters he has ever had. Nestled on quaint Hyde street remember that if you want a cocktail you better stop somewhere off of Hyde St first because the entire street only serves beer and wine."

"Our first time on a non prix-fixe night so we tried many more of the options than usual. Maybe too many of them since we did have some leftovers! Everything was wonderful. We had a first-timer with us but she enjoyed every bit of the food as well. Entrees were the Blue Plate paella, the Coca-Cola braised pork shoulder (always a must), the pan fried chicken (crispy skin and tasty meat) and the short rib lasagna. There were only 3 of us but we shared it all."

"Luella never disappoints--the food was lovely and imaginative, the service was first rate, and the pricing was reasonable for all that we ordered and enjoyed. What I love--its small enough that you always get great service and its a place that isn't crowded with a bus load of tourists. It very much caters to the locals and shines as a beacon of hospitality, warmth and variety. The staff is well versed and truly cares about their guests and the menu. "The restaurant has a lovely ambience with an exceptional menu to match. We will probably not return simply because the parking situation will cause you to weep. It took 30 minutes to find a parking space five blocks away. The nearest public garage on Polk charges $30. Let someone drop you off while they park the car and join the party for dessert!"

"Great ambiance with lighting that was just right. Service was prompt and thorough. The Chef brought our entrees to our table himself and offered a little insight on each one. The Beef Wellington was as advertised, great. The pork shoulder in Coke was exceptional. The salmon dish was prepared exquisitely, so tender and moist, just as you'd find in a 5 star French restaurant. We would definitely return on our next trip to San Francisco. Everyone in our party of 5 found Luella to be a memorable experience."

"We love to go to Luella on Sunday nights (kid's night) for special occasions like Father's Day and birthdays. This visit was for a double birthday and it was perfect. (The moderate noise was from our table and the table next door, also with kids. I'm guessing it's probably much quieter on the rest of the nights!) Finding a nearby parking spot is the only negative. Maybe we'll try the Hyde Street cable car next time!"

"All-around great experience. The staff were friendly but not obtrusive, and the restaurant had a sleek yet relaxed ambiance. The food was excellent; the tuna tartare tacos and the short rib lasagna were standouts."

"Two of us had the special hamburger with marrow, and it was outstanding, the best burger I've ever had. Pommes Frites came with it and were good enough but not outstanding, a little too dry, as though they'd been left sitting under a heat lamp or perhaps slightly overcooked. Service was outstanding, very accommodating and helpful in choosing wine. Contrary to many restaurants you can actually have a conversation here, but there's enough ambient noise to give it a trendy vibe. Best restaurant on Hyde Street. Will definitely return."
