"Service was good but not overly attentive. I had the grilled meats special with veggies, and husband ordered a veal dish and salad. The food was nicely arranged and prepared, but the flavor was lacking. It was tender where it should have been; the grilled mushroom cap was a nice touch, but the grilled haricots verts were too al dente for me. Salad was tasty but not enough of it. Mashed potatoes were not flavored at all and too much. The slice of carrot and zucchini were insufficient in quantity and flavor. Meat was tender &juicy but not flavorful. Husband, who used to live in Italy, was disappointed to not see tortellini on the menu. Excellent creme brulee and decaf coffee. Service and ambiance great; food not up to our expectations."

"I've eaten in many of Atlanta's finest white table cloth restaurants over the last forty years...Bones, Ninety-Four West, Pano's and Paul's, Nicolia's Roof, The Sundial and for those of you who might remember Saggitorio's, The Trotters, Carbo's Café, Creekside Café, The Ritz Dining Room ....some of those had memorable food and some had unforgettable ambiance. This has the feel of old Atlanta: class, a space that invites into the room the natural beauty of this beautiful city (you feel like you're outside) along with a hint of the orient in the outdoor architecture that is always present in an old money setting and great northern Italian food and service. Don't miss this special small restaurant feel hidden within a sophisticated hotel."

"A very enjoyable dining experience with some delicious Italian cuisine with a nice selection of wines that will pair well with any food selection. After dinner, the Ravinia garden provides a romantic environment for a late-evening walk. Try to avoid being seated too close to the kitchen; it can get quite noisy, making it very difficult to talk."

"We had our wedding reception at La Grotta 20 years ago and have returned for lunch or dinner frequently since. I love sitting by a window and seeing the beautiful grounds. The olive oil and bread for dipping are the best ever. I still find the food great, the ambience very romantic (love the music) and always leave feeling content."

"We always enjoy this restaurant - food, service, view are great. The combo that plays in Sat nights is wonderful...BUT TOO LOUD! It was so loud this time that we had to wait until the band took a break to talk without yelling. We've been numerous times but this was the worst. Realizing that people enjoy music and dancing - as do we - our group still decided we wouldn't return on a Sat night because of this. We actually went out after dinner so we could talk. Hate giving up a restaurant that we enjoy but we have to..."

"the best item we had was the creme brulee', The pasta was nothing special and lacked flavor. Chicken was okay but not the best nor the worst, pork was dry and bland, and the vegetables needed some form seasoning.
The wait staff, while not rude or anything of that nature were not very attentive, like I get better service at Fridays inattentive.
The price was high for the quality of the food particularly in comparison to the other Italian restaurants nearby.
The view however was fabulous and they do maximize it the fullest, that view is the reason for the 2 stars."

"My husband and I recently ate at La Grotta Ravinia, after wanting to dine there for several years. The food was good but the service was certainly lacking. From the moment we first encountered out waiter, we both felt we were an inconvenience. Never once did he check on us during our meal, which was quite peculiar from other restaurants of similar caliber. The injury adding to insult was when another waiter literally walked by our table and casually dropped the bill on it. He never spoke a word, no eye contact, no thank you...absolutely nothing. There was a ray of sunshine during our time spent there: the gentleman who actually served us our meal could not have been more pleasant, capable or professional."

"Was wary when eating in a hotel restaurant although original I suspect is not in a hotel. It was fantastic. My niece order veal ravioli in vodka sauce which was fabulous. My steak was well prepared. Only down part of the meal is I didn't stick to plan to order veal myself. Good wine list with seasonal specials. Would definitely return. Service was solid and very knowledgeable."

"Our food was excellent - borderline outstanding - but everything else leaves something to be desired. The service was inconsistent - we weren't quite sure who our waiter was since he didn't introduce himself. "The Ravinia La Grotta is a separate entity from its Peachtree Rd. cousin and located in a hotel, none of which portends high expectations for a good dinner. However, the room is delightful, with a view of an outdoor wooded area through floor to ceiling windows, and the service is attentive, helpful, and friendly. No attitude here. The menu selections are not unique by any means, but do encompass the usual pan-Italian fare with emphasis on the Northern end of the country. Our selections of appetizer, entrees, and desert were cooked perfectly and were truly delicious. The downside is that the restaurant is on the expensive side. All in all, we would return."

"I always forget how soothing and enjoyable the ambiance of La Grotta can be. The food is excellent, the service is indicative of professional staffing, and the setting makes it feel special. We were celebrating a 91st birthday and the staff were so attentive and brought Proseca and cake for my mom after dinner. Wonderful food!!!!"

"I had not been to LaGrotta in many years, and I will not waitcthatclong again. The food was excellent. The service outstanding. Carlos, our waiter, was very attentive. This restaurant is nestled away inside the Crown Plaza-both the hotel and the restaurant could use an architectural upgrade. But if you are looking for the best Italian food in Atlanta, I suggest you give LaGrotta a try. You will not be disappointed."

"This was my very first time visiting. The food and service was very good. I had their salmone which was to die for! My family had chicken and Pasta dishes. They accommodated our request wonderfully and the food arrived in a timely manner. I loved the ambiance and atmosphere(very romantic) I would definitely recommend their Calamari (really good) We was celebrating a birthday so after dinner they gave us a complimentary dessert which was absolutely AMAZING! I wish we could upload pictures to this site because it was equally Gorgeous as it was delicious. My only recommendation to fellow new-comers is to book an early reservation. Because they are located in a hotel, closing time fluctuates based on attendance."

"We made reservations to bring my husband's brother here because the view is so wonderful. However, his flight got cancelled, but my husband and I decided to go ahead anyway with our dinner plans. We were glad we did. The service and food are always wonderful. This time I tried the Dover Sole that I had read about in an article. My husband tried the special, the mixed grill. We were both pleased with our dishes. It had been raining, so we did not go outside, but we've enjoyed walking the garden area on past visits since the water features are soothing."

"Two of us dined at La Grotta for the first time, using a Travelzoo voucher. We enjoyed our meal and found the serving staff to be attentive. However, I was most unimpressed that our server had already added an 18% tip before presenting us with the bill. It has been my experience that such a tip is normally added for parties of at least 6 or more. I am a fairly generous tipper and would most likely have added a minimum of 20% but reserve the right to make that call based on the overall experience."

"This dinner was to celebrate our best friends 14th year wedding anniversary. While LaGrotta Ravinia was very busy and crowded & we had to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated (even with a long standing reservation!), it was well worth the wait. The manager was very gracious & brought us complimentary cocktails to sip on while we waited. Once seated, our waiter, Carlos, was charming, attentive & gracious. Our menu selection items, including appetizers, salads, main courses, & desserts for everyone were absolutely delicious & one of the best meals that we each had ever had. The band had a good range of music but were a bit loud - ~ 1/2 of the tables are near the band. All told, the four of us had a lovely, special evening."

"This was the first time that we had gone to LaGrotta Ravinia. I had been to their other restaurant in Buckhead and enjoyed that experience also. Everything was fantastic including the jazz band that played. The only problem we had was with our head waiter. He very seldom visited our table saying he was busy but he had plenty of time to give great service to his other tables. A young gentleman who assisted our head waiter at times was very good.
Other than that, he was a beautiful evening."

"Beautiful restaurant. Perfect abiance setting for a cozy and romantic evening, with live music, big band/jazz, for your pleasure. I had the scallops in a sage sauce which were absolutely excellent. I thought the sage might be overpowering, but it wasn't, it only enhanced the overall flavor of my entree. Our servers were very attentive and entertaining. I would definitely go back and need to put La Grotta Ravinia down as one of my new favorite restaurants."

"We had a reservation for a party of two at 8:15. We showed up a half hour early and checked with the hostess to let her know we had arrived and were waiting. Took time and had a cocktail in the bar upstairs from the restaurant and went back to check in. The hostess stated that it was very busy. We waited and so people coming and going so at 8:30 I followed up again and she siad they were getting a table ready. Again at 8:50 I asked for the manager who sat us at that time. I do not know why I even made a reservation if it's not honored. I live almost an hour away and wanted to have a special night out with my wife and this was not the way to begin. Once seated the waiter provided excellent service and the food and live music was great...."

"We were disappointed that we were not offered a drink before we were asked if we had any questions about the menu. Also, when the wine was served, we were not offered to taste it before it was poured. And then we were asked frequently about whether we had made a menu choice. Got the feeling that we were being rushed. Service not up to the usual standard."

"Unfortunately, our waiter was not well trained. The service was almost non-existent. The appetizer was served in a reasonable time frame, but the entre was about an hour later, and the desert order was probably taken 45 minutes after our plates had been cleared and it took another 30 minutes or so to get our desert. It seemed our waiter was just not paying attention to our table at all.
We will try again hoping it was just the waiter and not the kitchen."

"Saturday night dining with the Sinatra-esque live music was very nice. Our table with a view of the gardens was great. Our wait after ordering appetizers was a bit long, but otherwise service was attentive and responsive. The antipasti, caprese, and carpaccio appetizers were very good, as were the entrees of risotto with chicken and gorgonzola and veal saltimbocco. I wouldn't order the panna cotta again - too bland. We ran one tab and used our Travelzoo vouchers (2 couples, 2 vouchers), and had fine meals and a good bottle of wine to reach the $200 value of the 2 vouchers. A great experience for only $49 per couple through Travelzoo, before the $20 per couple tip!"

"We always enjoy LaGrotta...the food, the service, & the ambience. Plus it is only a 10 minute drive from home or less. There must have been a special occasion in part of the dining room, as it was curtained off and the trio was set up in another part of the dining room that where they usually are. This meant the area for public dining was smaller and very full. The shrimp entree was excellent, although I had to ask for the polenta that was to accompany it. My friend enjoyed the salmon. We split the tiramisu for dessert....which is awesome! We shall return again and again!"

"We had a very nice dinner for 4 on a Saturday night. We would have been seated promptly, but were asked if we wanted to wait a few minutes for a table by the window with a wonderful view of the hotel garden. There was a 3 piece band playing and singing old songs. Very nice, and not too loud to make it hard to hear. Everyone loved their pasta dishes. I prefer my calamari appetizer a little crisper, but that is a personal preference. The only thing that bothered me was that when our waiter was at our table and I wanted to ask him something, I had to wait several times for him to finish speaking to one of the other workers who was coming up to ask him questions."

"My wife and I celebrated our 31st anniverary at the restaurant. They gave us a table over tlloking the twp water falls and fountain in the garden. The garden would certainly look better in a month when the flowers and trees welcome spring.
We had excellent service and the food was great. We had caesar salad, muchroom an donion soup, veal scallipini and lamb chops for dinner and finished it off with creme brulee, chocolate mousse cake and coffee.
The comment negative about the restaurant was it has a small wine list but th ewine I did select from the wine by glass waa excellent."

"Food excellent...ambiance excellent...music (band) great...overall service fair. Server not very good. The support servers were good. We did have to ask for more water several times, but they were usually around and responsive. The support servers covered the ladies dishes to keep the food warm until they returned from the powder room, which was appreciated and a nice touch!
