"Overall a wonderful place to eat--and their happy hour at the bar is quite good as well. The chicken wings were about as wonderful as could be. Cooked fantastic, the meat just melted off the bone. The dinner meats were great as well. The mac and cheese wasn't as good as I had heard. But a great great place overall."

"The outside is old time southern agriculture. The inside retains the original brickwork that has been cleanly and carefully restored. The service is fine dining style without the stuffed shirt. You're made to feel welcome and in capable hands. The food ... excellent in all ways. Some fresh takes on old standards always made with fresh local produce and the best of seafood and meats. If you're in the area this place it THE place to dine. I know my wife and I will be back when we're down that way again."

"We decided to dine at The Local Chop House in celebration of our son's high school graduation. The food was outstanding with a wonderful selection of appetizers and entrees. The waitress was most helpful in choosing the appropriate rub and sauce for our meat or our "protein" as she called it. I would highly recommend the Chop House!!"

"My wife set up reservations and I'm glad she did. It is a very small restaurant and most of the tables are upstairs. They had an extensive wine list. Both of us had steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus, which was excellent. The restaurant also had complimentary valet parking which was nice because there wasn't really anywhere to park. The only thing we both disliked was the actual location of the restaurant. There were a lot of characters walking around outside that made my wife really uncomfortable. Over all the experience was nice and we would both want to go back again."

"We were looking for a spwcial place for dinner while on vacation and the restaurant looked interesting. The menu was great with many options, although steak is features. This is the first restaurant where you can choose the rub for the steak and over 12 different sauces to go with same.
When we finished and were presented our bill, the server also asked for our valet parking ticket and our car was at the door when we left without having to wait for the attendant to bring it around.
If you're in the area, try Local Chop and Grill House."

"The dining area is quaint; always nice to see a downtown area revitalized. The cost for what you get at brunch is moderate; too often the price for local food done creatively is very high. The food was served exceptionally fast. The food was good, not great; served luke warm, not hot. The coffee service has always been intriguing to me, served via a pot you would find in a Chinese restaurant, sadly barely warm. The tres leche cake and creme brule were tasty, though I would say very over priced. Our brunch was the egg sandwich, french toast, fritata (would have been perfect with some balsamic vinegar), lamb crepes, and the fried chicken and waffles. The dishes were relatively creative, but still accessible to even my children."

"This repurposed building is pleasing and has a more urban vibe than most Harrisonburg restaurants. Our server was excellent- which to me means that he/she is knowledgeable about the food and its preparation, can make good recommendations and is attentive without being intrusive.
Our meals were visually pleasing - we both opted for the pork chop which was cooked according to our order. However, even though it was a large chop, I'm still not convinced it was worthy of a $24 price. We both ordered asparagus and it was perfectly cooked. My brother said the Mac 'n cheese was good but not great. I ordered the risotto and I wod have liked just a little more of it to accompany the pork."

"Local Chop & Grill exceeded our expectations for a special dining experience. The Pear Salad was incredibly delicious. Our entrees were prepared to perfection. Special preparation to accommodate dietary restrictions or requests was offered. Our waitress was very informative about the menu and helped with pairings and suggested excellent combinations. We have just returned from a vacation in Scottsdale, Arizona and agree that this meal surpassed even our favorite vacation restaurants. The wine was wonderful and the Margarita was crisp, clear, and delicious. It was the perfect choice for our special dining experience."

"While we love eating at The Local, as the locals call it, it was horribly noisy that night with 2 or 3 large parties. One man used his cell phone to answer calls right behind our table. RUDE!!!Need to ask people who use their cell phones away from their table but close to another to not to do so. Annoying!"

"We live in the DC area and were at JMU for the weekend with our daughter for a pre-enrollment visit. "We were in town visiting and found this place and it was absolutely amazing! The menu allowed you to cater to your wants and needs and the service was absolutely incredible. The service staff was present but not intrusive and our server was Brad and he was excellent! Will definitely come back the next time we are in town."

"We have been to the Chop House twice. First time it was with 4 people second time with with 14 people. We found the first time the food this world. the second time however (with the 14 people) we found the food was really good but not as great as the first time. We think it may have been the number of people we had. Food was still really good just jit as good as our first experience."

"We were not expecting much since its in Harrisonburg, not exactly a place you would expect to find a great restaurant. We were proven wrong. Greeted promptly, seated and waiter showed up right after we got situated, since it was winter the whole coat, scarves, gloves etc. He explained the restaurant philosophy , locally grown and sustainable. We ordered the filet and it was excellent. Tender juicy and cooked the way we ordered it. Wife and daughter had medium, I went for medium rare and each steak done properly. Handmade cocktails featuring Virginia bourbons were a hit."

"Wow! Having read the reviews on OpenTable, I was expecting it to be good, but it truly exceeded my expectations! The service was great, the atmosphere warm and inviting, not too crowded and they accommodated a late change in the number of diners easily and graciously. The wine list was nice and complemented the menu. The menu was varied and we had a hard time deciding which to go with. My steak was done perfect (Medium Well - this is truly hard to get right and they nailed it!) and the seasoning was just enough to enhance but not overpower the great cut and quality of the meat. Sides were wonderful and desert did not disappoint."

"Portions were tiny. Food was very salty, not very tasty and very over-priced for what we got. I do not mind paying a lot for a meal if it is excellent food... Lamb appetizer was purple (raw) and extremely tough. They gave me a butter knife to cut it with and I had to saw away at it 50x to get each chewy bite. My husband ordered a ribeye steak that was undercooked and only about half an inch thick. He was extremely disappointed...you would think that a $29 steak would be thick and juicy but it was thin and full of gristle. It seemed like the chef forgot to trim the fat off. It was literally half fat. It came with a very small dollop of watery sweet potato mush. Beautiful building and good service but the food was not good.VeryDisappointi"

"Have never had a bad experience yet and am always impressed with the service and quality of the food. The ghost chili pepper BBQ sauce was amazing, quite possibly the best BBQ sauce I have ever had. A great change of pace to use as a dipping sauce for a steak."
