The King's Kitchen
The King's Kitchen is a not for profit restaurant that fuels economic vitality, growth in Charlotte's Center City and the greater metropolitan area creating jobs and supporting community development.
First, the restaurant will employ a segment of our community that is considered unemployable, from people who have come out of prison and rehab, to youths that are at high risk from dropping out of school. Once employed, they will receive training to run a full service restaurant from the front of the house to the back. They will also receive leadership and spiritual training as well in order to gain the life skills that are necessary to be successful in today's job market.
Secondly, the profits from The King's Kitchen will provide funds and/or foods for established feeding centers in the community to provide meals for those in need. Designed to operate profitably, all profits will be used to help feed the hungry here in Charlotte, surrounding areas and in other parts of the world.

"I took my family here, who was visiting North Carolina (and the South for that matter) for the first time, for a taste of the South. They loved it! Our server was engaging and entertaining, and the food was delicious. This place is great for lunch too."

"I fully understand the purpose of this restaurant and support the efforts. We had baked and fried chicken but the baked chicken seemed undercooked with flimsy skin and had to be sent back. Otherwise the food was fine. The server lacked focus and we had to ask for water or tea. We will continue to support the King's Kitchen but ask that they sharpen their game a little bit."

"I chose the King's Kitchen because I wa going to be in town for another event and it was my birthday. The service was extremely slow. It took us forever to get refills on beverages, even after asking a couple of times. The restaurant was not crowded so I didn't understand the slow service. The pimento cheese dip was not "hot" as claimed on the menu and the food was just okay."

"We ended up with a group of nine for our meal at King's Kitchen which included three kids from ages 4 - 11. We were given a small private room which was cozy and very convenient so the moms in our group didn't worry too much about their kids disturbing others.

"Although the food was very flavorful I am not sure if I will go back. The portions were small and the prices were high. I ordered a scallop entree for 18 dollars and it was 3 sea scallops and a small portion of succotash. The cheese plate was 11 bucks and very good but again not enough toast points to finish it off. No bread basket was served on the table for which I found that odd since it is a bakery also. My husband has tomato bisque that was delish and the fried flounder but again the portion of 1 piece of fish was on the short side. Menu is very limited. We had eaten at Noble's in South Park before it closed and had much greater expectations. The small room near the kitchen where they sat us was very noisy and small."

"This was our first, and last, visit to The King's Kitchen. My wife's meal was, according to her, "delicious," but three medium scallops for $21 were insufficient. I ordered poached salmon ($22), which did not taste or look like salmon. It appeared a grey color, and the preparation did not resemble poached in any way. Our waitress seemed sincerely interested in doing a good job but was unable even to describe the contents of a salad. When we asked if TKK served bread, she said she would have to check. Perhaps she was a volunteer. We were seated opposite a door. Every time it opened, and it did so frequently with smokers going in and out, we were greeted with a blast of cold air. My wife kept her coat on throughout dinner."

"Visited this restaurant about 12 months earlier... service and food was considerably better then. This visit, had to wait to be seated (restaurant was nearly empty) as the hostess was on phone. Service was fair to good. The herb chicken was fair with small quantity and 'acceptable' flavor. Sides (collard greens and butter beans) were nothing special. Shrimp and grits serving was the smallest I've ever seen for the dish. Ambiance was fair - initially was going to be seated next to the kitchen (with only one other table occupied in the restaurant at the time), but asked for another table... sat us right next to the only other table with patrons. Still, not bad, just odd. For price, overall experience was fair to good. Great purpose."

"I initially selected to eat at King's Kitchen because of the non-profit and charitable aspect of the restaurant -- that alone was enough for me to try it out. Upon getting our food, I was very impressed with the quality of everything (and I am a big foodie considering I was married to an executive chef for over a decade). The pan fried chicken and flounder were amazing -- both only lightly fried so not heavy at all. If you want to support a community-focused business who gives all profits back to the community, you must not miss King's Kitchen."

"Somehow, I had missed this wonderful restaurant in all my previous visits to Charlotte. The food was extremely fresh. I had the signature fried chicken - wonderfully flavorful and moist. The veggies were delicious although the sweet potato mash was a little stringy. Can't wait to go back to try some of the other entrees. Additionally, the Kings Kitchen has a phenomenal mission helping those in distress and others get back on their feet. One can certainly drink and eat to that."

"Unfriendly, cold hostess who seemed bothered that we actually showed up for our reservation (first ones in the restaurant tonight). Not even a hello/basically just a yeah/what! Awful start. Jay the server was very nice and friendly or I'd have rated the service as poor. The wines were fine and not outrageously priced. Cornbread was fresh and homemade, mac and cheese was also pretty good. The rest was poor. Fried chicken was room temperature but at least wasn't dry. Green beans were way overcooked and tasted more like ham-hock and salt than green beans (what's wrong with green beans that taste like green beans?), warm cabbage was cold and bland, and the beets were nothing special. Scallops were too heavy on the salt."

"This was our second visit. The meal was very good. The service was fine. Just too noisy
for a romantic evening. We deeply appreciate the mission of King's Kitchen,the hiring of
people who have probably had a hard time finding suitable employment as well as training
for a possible career in food services. We were pleased to learn that the restaurant even has a Bible study and feeds the homeless. That is a powerful witness in the heart of uptown.

"Great place. Great regular menu items, specials, sides, you name it. And the service is always laid back and friendly. I like "starched table cloth" as much as the next guy, but this place is every bit as good in terms of food without being rigid. A great place to have a good, relaxing dinner."

"While we liked the idea of this restaurant providing chef and service training for at-risk folks, paying over $80 for what was very average food for two (without alcohol) was a bit too much. Further, the service was very slow and the waitstaff repeatedly mixed up dishes for our table and the two adjacent tables. In the end, a nice idea poorly executed."

"My wife and I skipped the Feb 14th crush and booked a table at The Kings Kitchen for our Valentines Dinner the next night. The food was fabulous. (definitely try the fried chicken!) My wife ordered the $24 flank steak cooked rare and it was uncooked perfectly! My meat and three plate for $14 was delicious AND affordable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those looking for a classy casual atmosphere and a wide ranging menu.
Most importantly, I appreciate the fact that this restaurant gives disadvantaged people a chance to get back on their feet."

"Our night at the King's Kitchen with wonderful friends could not have been better. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was amazing and accommodating, the environment was beautiful and comfortable, and the food was delicious and nutritious! But the idea of eating at such a fabulous restaurant is even eclipsed by the mission of the establishment and its founder: serving delectable food to customers while gifting 100% of the proceeds to Charlotte's homeless and less fortunate. As my 9-year-old said: "What an inspiration!!!" I agree!"

"The story behind Jim Noble's Kings Kitchen was enough to draw us in, so we were already thrilled before even eating a single thing. Once we did eat, we were even more thrilled. My shrimp and grits were to die for, the fried chicken and fried flounder were perfect and the oysters we had as an appetizer with bacon aioli was delectable. We had phenomenal desserts (caramel coffee cake? YES PLEASE. Banana pudding topped with toasted marshmallow? Like that, I'd eat it every day of my life.) Our server was phenomenal, our time there was never rushed, and we left extremely happy. Five stars, no question."

"we went to Charlotte for the weekend and had dinner here. I'm not accustomed to southern cuisin so loved the variety of new ingredients and the creative dishes. I thought I was pretty dead set in ever trying pimento cheese but now I can say I tried it and actually loved it! Try the Pimento Dip. I was with a group and all of us just loved our dishes! Will go back for sure..."
