"HH is typically an exceptional place to have a steak and take in the delights of great sides and dessert. However, the baked potato was dry and brown on the inside from having been cooked long before being brought out (flavor left much to be desired). Dessert, a chocolate cake, was dry and inedible. Thanks to a great server, it was replaced by a delicious carrot. The chef's newest creation, sea scallops with pesto, mashed potatoes and asparagus was good, other than the extreme amount of oil used in the pesto which overwhelmed the potatoes (had to leave a protective ring of potatoes on the plate to keep the oil from taking over the entire side). Independence is not the best HH in KC, by any means--go to Zona Rosa if you want a great meal."

"I booked a reservation for my Mom and I on Mother's Day. We were expecting to sit in the normal Hereford House dining room, and to order from their standard, Hereford House menu. However, due to Mother's Day, the only thing available was a "Mother's Day Brunch" that was served in one of the hotel's ballrooms. My Mom and I don't care for buffet style food. Had I known that this was the case, I would have booked a reservation else where. I don't recall anything on the website stating that these changes. Needless to say, I was disappointed."

"It was me and my girlfriends 1 yr anniversary and our first time going here. Place was excellent food was awesome was even able to accommodate flowers to be on the table set up beforehand and card was held on to be brought out. Made the night awesome with awesome food!"

"We ordered a filet and salmon. The filet was ordered med-rare, and arrived rare. The waiter took it back to cook it to med-rare, and it arrived medium. It's unfortunate that a steak house can't properly cook a $38 steak dinner. The salmon arrived overcooked and dry. The rolls were apparently heated in a microwave, and were rock hard. On a positive note, the wait staff was friendly, and prompt. Needless to say, we won't be rushing back to Hereford house anytime soon. We expect more for our hard earned money."

"When arriving at restaurant was a bit hectic at hostess desk. There were 3 employees from hotel trying to pick up their carry out meals. Hostess was "shouting" to another server to come help her seat tables cause she had to deal w/ the carry out meals. Just seemed disorganized at best.

"The food was very good and loved the Sam Adams tasting paddle. The only issue I had was that we were rushed through our meal. We hadn't even finished half our appetizer and the soup was coming out and then same with our meal. At one point we had 3 courses of food on the table. I wanted to take my wife out of a nice/relaxing meal but wasn't able to just sit and enjoy each course."

"We ate there on a Saturday night, which was also prom night for a local school, apparently. It was fun to see them dressed up and having a nice dinner. My companion and i had steaks, of course. "Not overly impressed with the experience. It was only my second time there so I really had no true preconceived notions of what to expect. I, along with two other gentlemen, were having a kind of business meeting / lunch combined. Our attendant could never really establish a rhythm for us. As a results, we found ourselves waiting quite a bit. Additionally, our food left a little to be desired as well. I finished my plate but neither of the other two gentlemen did. This could have certainly been an isolated event and I will return again as well as recommend your site to other, when asked, as an option..."

"We took my parents for their 49th wedding anniversary. My father has a hearing impairment, and the restaurant was very quiet and easy for him to have a conversation in. The food selection was great. We each did the dinner for two. Our filets were cooked perfectly and were so tender. The pork chops had an excellent flavor. Our server, Kelly, was knowledgeable and helpful when we were making selections, as well as, just the right amount of attentiveness. It was a perfect dinner."

"After our first waiter graciously moved us from a drafty table, we didn't know that we would experience our waiter Jesus's second day as a waiter. He really tried but he may have missed some of the conversation. A second waiter advised that he was having trouble at the bar trying to get my "half glass" of wine when in fact I'd ordered one of their "half bottles" of LeCrema. He got most of the order right but the whole meal took about an hour and 45 minutes. We didn't chance the flambe bread pudding and ask for a more experienced waiter, even though Jesus said he'd "try". This will certianly not stop us from returning. We generally have great food and service and usually eat there at least once a month. The prime rib is great."

"we desired a nice restaurant to celebrate our 27th anniversary and chose Hereford House. unfortunately we had more of a regular restaurant experience with a nice restaurant price tag. Both the appetizer and prime rib were just warm enough to keep us from sending either back, the filet was good and hot. Our server was very personable and made up for the hostess who seated us. We walked away feeling we hadn't had a special experience other than putting out more money than our usual evenings out."

"My companion and i went there for steak. I was tempted by the catch of the day, but went with steak. My companion had the filet oscar and i had the sirloin. He had the spinach salad, which was delicious. I had the spring salad which i recommend over the house. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and very tender. service was professional. We got what we went for: a great steak dinner with good service and good wine. Italian cream cake is back, which made me happy."

"Had a reservation for two at 7:30pm and we were seated 5 minutes after we arrived. Lovely fireplace close to our table. Wine list is extensive. Ordered the filet and baked salmon and was not disappointed. Blue cheese dressing on the house salad was the only downside to a very nice meal. Great for a special occasion or just a casual night out with friends."

"This was Valentines evening so it is expected that the place would be full and the waiters very busy. The food was wonderful, I had the twin lobster tails, they were cooked to perfection, my date had prime rib and ate every bite. Looking forward to visiting again."
