Zazie is a neighborhood French bistro in Cole Valley specializing in the country cooking of Southern France. The well heated garden patio is a delightful place to enjoy a casual, relaxed meal with friends and family. Our menu is seasonal, featuring slow braised rabbit, cassoulet, grilled fresh fish, and a variety of vegetarian options. Zazie invites dog lovers to bring their pup to dinner on the patio on Monday nights (weather permitting) and take $10 off any bottle of wine on our list. Tuesday nights are no corkage nights; bring as many bottles as you can gracefully handle! We are famous for our American style brunch seven days/ week as well, although reservations are not accepted for brunch.
"Our food was excellent, but I was very disappointed when they served our wine in stemless wine glasses with thick rims. The service was ok, a tad obsequious."

"This visit to Zazie was great. My friend and I received good service. I love the outdoor area. So beautiful and romantic. The menu has remained the same over the years, but I've had a chance to try most of the dishes and they are consistently good and of high quality. And I love how quiet the restaurant is comparing to all the other popular spots in the city."

"The restaurant had good atmosphere with neigborhood friendliness. It seemed there were many neigbours or members of some groups who were eating together or single diners who seemed eating very relaxed. Good friendly reception but the service was bit tardy. When we finally asked what happened to our order, the attendant answered back that one person/cook was managing everything, indicating we should be patient. The dessert we finally were served was supposed to be a custard, but it seemed neither steamed nor baked except torched sugar crust on the top. It seemed it was made from a simple ready made mixture which requires no baking. My husband said his food was good, but we will probably go somewhere else next time."

"Zazie was a really great place for my wife and I to go on a date. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we immediately felt welcome and well taken care of. We sat on the patio, which was charmingly lit up, with flowers covering the fences. What really stood out, however, was the food. The charcuterie was great, especially the pate. We had the steelhead and the chicken. Both excellent. The meals were balanced and flavorful, and though they were healthy and not especially heavy, we were very well fed. Our only regret was not having the chance to try some of their deserts (which sounded great!)."

"Had possibly the best pasta ever at Zazie the other night. Creme Brûlée was equally incredible. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. My mother and I were staying nearby for a holiday and were very pleased that our host recommended the restaurant!"

"Zazie is my favorite place in the neighborhood. The food is good, the service is good, it's a tiny, very cozy place, not too noisy. This week the French onion soup was very rich and good, the cheese extremely thick. I got the grilled mascarpone polenta and spinach with mushrooms in tomato sauce, really delicious. The iced tea was delicately flavored and so good. This restaurant pays attention to the little details. We usually go for their out of the box breakfast/brunches, and this week's dinner was really a treat, as well."

"Zazie is just a lovely place to go. The food is always great, service is friendly and attentive and it's overall a great experience. Better to go by public transportation - parking in this neighborhood is challenging."

"Everything was okay. To be honest, the entries were entirely too rich for my taste, and a bit over-prepared in my opinion, but everyone else seemed to eat them, so they must have been fine. My preferences might run more toward less fat and less conglomerated preparations. Cheers, JoS"

"I have been coming to this place for over 20 years! I moved out of CA years ago, but still come back when I visit. I grew up in this hood + have had dozens of meals here: lunch with my mother, awful dates, epic brunches, and just recently a romantic birthday dinner with the love of my life. We mentioned it was my birthday and dessert was complimentary. The 3 course prix fix meal for $25 is the best deal in town. Mondays you can dine with your pooch on the patio. Tuesdays they wave corkage fees. I am disappointed that this does not include Tuesday lunch, but well, nothing is perfect! Very nice wine selection. I imagine I will have several meals here this month as I am renting a house nearby and this is on my route as I walk down memory lane"

"This was my first time going here for dinner and I was not that pleased. The food was horrible. My friend ordered the rabbit and I had the duck and both dishes were bland, lacking, and soooo not worth the price. They do has a great breakfast. I think I'll stick with the things they do right."

"One of the absolute gems of Cole Valley, Zazzie once again did not dissapoint! our table shared three great appetizers and four amazing, unique entrees with a decadent dessert to cap off an outstanding meal. We will be back, and back, and back again!"

"The food was wonderful and the service outstanding! However, for a French restaurant the portions were quite big. I was pretty full after the French onion soup, so I only took a few bites of the delicious Beouf bourginone. I wanted to save room for dessert. Our server was great! She was very nice and personable, and since it was my birthday she gave me a complimentary dessert - their special "hot cocoa" cake."

"I've had a great meal at Zazie before, with an interesting menu and a variety of entrees. This time was a bit of a disappointment.
My friend and I shared a beet salad that was generous and delicious, with nice chunks of both red and golden beets offset by arugula and fennel, and perfect pieces of avocado.
We were both looking forward to a pork chop, which was well presented with a pear half on top. But this is where our dinner fell apart: the chops each looked perfect, but it was about impossible to slice, and once I wrestled off a bite to eat, it was tough to chew, and dry as a piece of leather. Clearly, the chop had been cooked too long at an insufficient heat."

"Attractive patio with gas heaters. The wait staff seemed to not like their job, although they tried to disguise it. The three dinner entrees I tasted each had a weird ingredient that made them not tasty. The carrot ginger soup was a little bland. The pot au creme was excellent. We were in a hurry, and the waiter was watching and served my dessert at exactly the right time. I like to dine here to support them being one of a very few restaurants that provide health insurance for their workers, but I would go to their breakfasts only, which are delicious."

"Charming patio dining with strings of lights and charming decoration. We were comfortable and warm even on a cold night due to the heat lamps. Warm blankets were a nice touch but not even needed. Service was awesome, friendly and so helpful making sure we enjoyed a wonderful dining experience while making it to the theater on time. Food was beautifully done, flavorful and a great priced prix fixe meal. thank you Zazie!"

"This is definitely a neighborhood gem. The outdoor patio is beautiful and has enough heat lamps to stay open all year round. The food is quality and delightful, the service is top notch, and the atmosphere is perfectly quaint. Tuesday night is fun, as there is no corkage fee, but this place is great any night of the week."

"We had a wonderful evening and did not want to leave. we felt like we were in Paris again. Intimate, cozy, well behaved kids at some tables, it was Dog Night (Mondays) so people walking through to the patio with their dogs. LOVED that. My Hanger steak was AMAZING! Perfectly done and delicious. Husband loved his Coq a Vin. The Emery Cabernet was perfect with our meal. We also enjoyed the beet salad and to finish the Chocolate cake with marshmallow topping was really good and fun."
