"The thing I really noted during our Mother's Day brunch visit was that the chef does not do any weird twists with the food, it is classic French flavors with high quality ingredients. I would say the Beef Burgundy was some of the best I've had. The "gypsy jazz" ensemble was a bonus treat and altogether the food and ambience made for a memorable dining experience. Outdoor seating with beautiful early afternoon weather was also a bonus. Thanks Violette for putting on quite a show!"

"We had the Mother's Day Brunch with our kids and two grandsons. The place is very cozy, but alive. We always feel like family there. The jazz quartet was a plus. Good music, but not obtrusive. The service is great. they are friendly, knowledgeable and timely, but don't hover or disappear. The food was excellent. The Beef Bourguignon was the best, the quiche was good, the sausages were great, french toast, eggs Benedict, shrimp salad and asparagus salad were good too. The dill salmon was great, but the beef bourguignon was my very favorite. The chocolate mousse was great, and there was an assortment of pastries, but I prefer the meat, but did taste some pastries other got."

"Violette has been around a long time. I found it in the early 90's, when it was at it's original location. It was more intimate then.

It's since moved into a bigger space. This place can hold MANY. When full, you won't get prompt service. They keep their sense of humor, though. And you should, too. The food has an Alsatian bent, and doesn't disappoint.

On weekends, there is a great pianist. He very sensitively gears it toward the crowd, and will take requests. When I asked him to play "What Are You Doing the Rest of your Life?", he played a passable rendition. However, 2 weeks later he played it beautifully and flawlessly. Obviously he went home, learned it, and played it when he saw us eating there again. That is priceless."

"A friend and I had made reservations for dinner after spending the afternoon at the High Museum of Art and Violette did not disappoint. Our courteous, attentive (and French-speaking) waiter set a nice tone from the start, and our aperitifs kept it going. The bartender even consulted with us about one of our requests, then prepared the drink in just the way my friend wanted it. Our appetizers of salmon rillette and Pommes de Terre à l’Alsacienne were excellent and served in generous portions, and we shared a main course of Canard à la Lavande. I enjoyed the duck, but perhaps because I was spoiled by the appetizers, I might try something less crunchy and more meaty next time. We shared apple pie for dessert, and it was spot on."

"We both had fish. The salmon was nicely seasoned and the trout was acceptable. The side dishes were a big disappointment. The rice was dry and tasted like it had been cooked in the morning and reheated in a microwave. The vegetables (cauliflower and peas in their pods) were overcooked and without discernible seasoning. The peas were almost gray and and cauliflower had taken on the green tinge of the overcooked peas. I have never had peas that big served in the pod.

We have eaten there before. But this time the menu has been reduced. And while there were a few French dishes on the menu and everything was described in French, the balance of the menu was of indescript origin lacking any French treatments. It is doubtful we will return."

"I love this restaurant for the convenient location when meeting someone. It's easy to find, and just off the interstate. The food is also pretty consistently good. I have dined here 5 times in 5 months. The only thing I would avoid would be brunch - food was absolutely awful the one time we went for Sunday brunch, though the live entertainment was outstanding. Otherwise, when ordering off the menu at lunch or dinner, the food is reliably good. Coq au Vin, Crepes, Quiche, Beet & Goat Cheese Salad, Polenta - all have been very good.

Service is another matter. Lunch service seems to be better; the service I received at brunch and dinner was inattentive to the point of being irritating. The guy that handles the valet parking is super nice."

"Who would think a cozy little French restaurant with stellar service, a creative wine list, reasonable prices,and delicious food would be hidden in the Clairmont-I85 corridor? It's true and it's wonderful. For us Northsiders, it was a trek, but we found it well worth the trip.

The place is small and cozy, but tables are not so close as to inhibit conversation. Service is professional but friendly. The menu features most basic French standbys, plus a couple of vegetarian dishes that sounded very intriguing. The only thing missing for me was that I expected more crepe dishes.

Desserts were wonderful-- we sampled the creme brulee and the pear tart- both outstanding. We'll be back!"

"In a market dominated by chain "family" restaurants, Violette is a refreshing throwback to DINING, as opposed to eating. Attentive service, varied and reasonably priced wine list, a menu with classic country French offerings, and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere enhanced by a pianist you can hum (if not sing) along with."

"We had an early dinner on a Saturday night. The food and service was excellent and there were multiple items on the agenda that we wanted. The only thing we noticed was that the music playing on the intercom was a blue=sy jazz instrumental and it seemed out of place in creating ambiance. However, about a half hour later, a wonderful piano player starting playing and it added the perfect touch to the ambiance. My husband had the trout, which he said was fantastic, and I had the fettcini with shrimp and pesto sauce, which I found very filing and perfectly tasty. The Shrimp were large and plentiful. We pass this restaurant many times on Clairmont and hardly knew it was there and we are very glad to have found it"

"I took a large group of assisted living residents who all had walkers and canes to lunch at violette's.
There was plenty of room to get around and even store the walkers. The service was fantastic, and our waiter was gracious, kind, and patient, with our residents.
It could not have been a more pleasant dining experience."

"From the moment I walked in the door, I felt I was in a friend's home. I love Violette. I had no idea this gem was in my neighborhood. The interior design is lovely - understated with no pretension. Lavender creme brulee! My salmon was delicious and my friends were delighted with their choices. All in all, a great way to celebrate my 65th birthday."

"While we love the fact that they usually have a piano player there, this time it was too loud. Of course it is hard to ask a piano player to play more quietly so we said nothing to anyone about it. We have dined here many times and I don't ever recall the piano music being so loud. Not sure why it was this time."

"We always receive a warm welcome here, so come back as often as we are in the area. Things were a bit slow when we arrived about 6:30 on a Monday evening, but more tables filled during our leisurely meal. It appears that the wait staff is happy here, as they now look familiar. Darrell was our server, if I recall the name correctly, which I intended to do as I would request him specifically next time. We split a generously portioned Alsatian salad, then the salmon. These were plated separately, which we really appreciated as seniors whose appetites are not what they once were. For dessert we split the warm crepe wrapped around chocolate mousse (?) and ice cream, garnished with strawberries. YUM! PS: also loved unobtrusivelive live piano."

"Violette is a welcome surprise for us- as it has been around for 20 years and I have been in Atlanta for 23 and never heard about it until this visit! Excellent French dishes galore- Onion soup, escargots, Beef Bougignon, Chocolate mousse, all reasonably priced and delicious. Service was attentive and the wine list quite nice: a Chateau Neuf de Pape (2010) for $66 enticed me. We will be going back to his hidden gem!"

"I made reservations for Saturday night. My office is at the building next door to Violette, and so I have been several times for lunch. When my date and I arrived, we noticed that the restaurant wasn't too full and were seated near the front of the restaurant.

After waiting more than 10 minutes and having not had a waiter come and ppour us a glass of water or ask for a drink order, I went and fetched the maitre'd. At that point I was finally able to get a waiter at my table.

We ordered and our food was brought out, but my food was not hot, although it was warm enough to eat. Rather than make a fuss, given the experience we had already had at the restaurant, I elected just to finish and leave.

I won't be going back at dinner again."

"This has long been one of my favorite restaurants in this neighborhood. The chicken in puff pastry has changed - waiter said they have a new chef. The chicken is now grilled and tough and the puff pastry was like yesterday's leftovers - HARD. What has happened? I would still recommend, but only because there are very few choices in that area."

"We were quite disappointed with our experience. Our drinks took over 30 minutes and one of them was not correct. My husband had to go to the bar after 30 minutes to check on our drinks. The crab cakes were very bready and dry. Tasted more like a cafeteria than a nice restarant."

"Our second time dining here & while we enjoyed it, was not as good an experience as the first time. The service was really slow and while the wait staff was quite pleasant, it became annoying that we had to wait a long time for EVERYTHING - drink orders to be taken, drinks to be delivered, food orders to be taken, food to be delivered, table to be cleared and then the longest wait of all was to receive the bill and then to pay it! We were seated right next to the piano. Enjoyed the music very much, but would ask to be seated in a different location next time as it was a bit loud for us."

"I have enjoyed many good meals at Violette, but my experience March 1 was not one of them.
The entree I ordered was polenta with a "crepe" and a tomato ragu. It was extremely bland, and what taste it did have was not pleasant.The "crepe" was an over-cooked "taco shell-type item". I tried a few bites of my meal and left the rest. My friend ordered the quiche of the day, which was a better choice, but the crust was soggy. Violette seemed to be having an off day in the kitchen. I hope my experience was an anomaly, because I'd like to continue enjoying my dining experiences at Violette.
I didn't tell the staff that I found the meal "uneatable", which I should have done."

"A comfortable, delightful place for lunch (especially). Nicely prepared French fare -- classic, unpretentious. While I love the many new farm-to-table, locavore, pork belly-centric places, it's refreshing to simply enjoy well prepared "middle class" (bourgeois), homestyle French food.
