Morimoto - Napa
Morimoto's contemporary Japanese menu infuses traditional dishes with Western ingredients and preparation techniques. His seasonal and ever-changing selection of raw fish preparations will feature the freshest seafood available as well as locally grown fruits and vegetables from supporting farmers. Morimoto's signature offerings include Toro Tartare, presented in a shallow wooden tray with condiments including crème fraîche, wasabi, avocado, nori paste, chives, crispy rice, and dashi-soy. Tuna Pizza made with raw tuna, anchovy aioli, and jalapeno; Morimoto Sashimi, a terrine of seared Toro, smoked salmon, barbequed eel, tuna and Hamachi served with five different sauces in pipettes.

"We were in Napa recently for several days and had 2 dinners at Morimoto. There are many great places to eat in Napa, and to say that we went back for the 2nd night instead of several other notable restaurants that we had on our list to try....says a lot.
Incredible and knowledgeable service, the most delicious fresh sushi/sashimi I've ever had other than in New York, and so many great menu items to choose from...all again fabulous."

"I had the tasting menu $160 plus wine pairings ($90). Wine was impressive, but food was more on par with "only" 1 michelin star. Service did not know what was on the tasting menu when I ordered it... doesn't seem to be a popular choice... I get the impression that most patrons go in for a 1 or 2 dish meal. Tastings were good but slow coming out of the kitchen with long periods of time where I was just sitting and waiting. When served, dishes were genereally at good temp (perhaps a little less warm than I would have liked on soup and wagyu) and generally tasted very good (not delicious). Two dishes were a little bland ... I almost added soy sauce!"

"We celebrated our wedding anniversary. Delicious food, great service, even two comp glasses of sparkling for been working in the wine industry. The manager showed to our table to see how everything was going. The only thing that is notbas goodbis the noise level, request for a quiter spot when making reservations."

"I had recently went to a couple of high end restaurants last week and was very disappointed. My disappointment was mainly on the food. So I was a little hesitant of going in expecting high standards at Morimoto's as I felt I was let down on the last two recent experiences from other restaurants. When I walked into Morimoto's I loved the ambiance! The food was not only to die for but the presentation was beautiful and the service was excellent!!! I would definitely come back because there are many more dishes I would love to try and plus hopefully meet Mr. Morimoto himself."

"Can't go wrong with just about any dish. The tuna pizza is an excellent choice for an appetizer. The black cod had a good sized portion, excellent texture and very flavorful; that with a side of spicy beans make for an excellent pairing. The Morimoto Chirashi was awesome. Large portion with many different types of sashimi picked by the chef. Enough to share for two people. The only setback is the noise level inside the restaurant. Highly suggest the terrace sitting outside if the weather is nice for a more quiet and intimate setting."

"We ordered the chef's choice, which was fantastic, but incredibly expensive. It was great having the restaurant decide what to present to us. Every dish was a work of art. My dinner was the regular chef's choice, which was $120. My date had the seasonal chef's choice, which was $160. Add $80 for the sake plus tax and tip, and the final tab was well over $400. The only downside was the noise level. It is an industrial building with concrete floors and hard walls. We were seated across from each other and couldn't hear each other. I ended up moving to her side of the table just so that we could talk. It took three hours for them to serve us all the courses, and after we were finished we felt like we had not just a meal, but an experience."

"Fantastic sushi as well as a multitude of cooked dishes with Iron Chef Morimoto signature preparations in full display. A great wine list - interesting sake list - and full bar. The sushi items are flown in from Tokyo and are among the best of the best in all the Bay Area. Make a special visit. You'll hear it is expensive and certainly you can run up a big bill if you want to but careful selection of the items can also give you an affordable result."

"The Morimoto Omakase was amazing! The service for this meal was just as amazing. Three dishes that made my experience amazing was the caviar on top of fried potato, the scallops and the three pieces of steak which was one of the best tasting steaks that I have ever had and came close to Kobe beef which I had in Japan years back. Just an amazing experience with all the dishes and amazing service. Will try it again next time I return! My gracious complements to the chefs for this! Thank you."

"I have watched Morimoto perform wonders on the Iron Chef series and was very interested in visiting his Napa restaurant and sampling the cuisine that he so masterfully pulls together for the show. I was not disappointed. It was a very pleasant evening and a wonderful meal. The noise level was a bit distracting however, but i suppose when folks are having a great time they feel effusive and tend to get loud.
Great presentations and wonderful flavors. My companion had yellowfin tuna cooked at the table in a heated stone bowl! wonderful element and delicious result. I had equal enjoyment from the surf and turf which was beautiful and delicious."

"We had a wonderful dinner - cooked and sushi. Sat outdoors where we could see the river, with a slight breeze. The only distraction was someone who brought her small dog (since we were outside, technically this was ok), which barked at everything and ran around as much as pisdinle on its leash. "The broth of the ramen soup was outstandingly good and the kimchee was good. From the chicken in the soup to the sushi to the pork chop, the predominant texture was mushy. If that is how sushi is supposed to be, I've enjoyed a lot of it otherwise by mistake. We would not return."

"we had made a reservation, we were asked to wait 15-20 minutes to sit on the lovely deck. Several empty tables were open. Sat inside where it is so noisy we could not hear our conversation. An appetizer of field greens and thinly sliced fish with an excellent dressing came first. I would make this appetizer my meal. The soft shell crab roll was disappointing. Husband had the outstanding miso broth with shellfish. Son had the bowl of rice with raw fish and salmon roe. He was very pleased. I chose the rice with egg and pieces of white fish that are cooked at the table through the hot stone bowl. Very disappointing. When an entree costs over $30, I do expect to be ecstatic, especially when recommended by the staff."

"I always watch "American Iron Chef", and was looking forward to tasting his food.
The dressing for the salad was great, and we loved it. Unique, and tasty. However, I had a braised black cod, which was too sweet, salty. They should not put that much sauce on it. If they put half of it, you can taste the melted taste of black cod in your mouth.

"The whole dining experience was a show in front of our eyes. The presentation of the all our food was quite artistic. We ordered the tono tartare, oysters, yellow tail pastrami, lobster, yellow tail cooked in stone bowl (table-side), doughnuts and s'mores dessert. While our main waiter was okay, the staff filling waters, clearing plates was more attentive. We would definitely come back. The food was exceptional."

"Great place for large groups. Outside dining looked great too. The restarant is quite large, but the aervice was exceptional. Our waiter was great with knowledge of wine and food. Food was delicious!! We had a party of 7, and we were all happy with our choices. I would definitely recommend the miso glazed cod. We had the donuts and smores for desert. A gentleman from the bar sent over port for the whole group. Great place, looking forward to going back!"

"My husband & I went for lunch. The best deal is the lunch set. It comes with your choice of entree, miso soup or salad, sushi & vegetable tempura. I chose the beef teriyaki knowing this would not be the typical sweet, thick sauce. I also told our server I was not particularly fond of tempura so she suggested sautéed vegetables. What a delicious meal! The miso soup is house made & so is the tofu in the soup. Everything was fresh and so delicious. Every time we are in Napa we have lunch here."

"1st time for visiting this restaurant, but it will not be the last. The tuna toro starter was exquisite. The sushi we had 3 or 4 combos was also the best Ive ever had. My wife had lobster entree, and I had duck duck goose. If I had a complaint, it would be that the fried rice part of that dish just did not stand out. It was good, but after everything else being so flavorful, I thought it would pack a bigger flavor punch. All in all, an outstanding meal. Thank you Morimoto."

"Mostly underwhelming. Food was prettier than it was tasty. Bone marrow dish was a waste of time. Tasted like greasy bread crumbs and onions. 10 hour pork belly and pork chop were great. Morimoto sashimi was ok, yellow tail "pastrami" was boring. Just felt like sushi rolled in spices. It was cured but that added nothing that I could tell to the overall flavor. King crab hot app was really good but order sauce on the side. If you don't the sauce overwhelms the crab. Duck confit fried rice needed salt and more duck."

"Nice folks, hectic restaurant. The Omakase took well more than two hours, which makes the experience unpleasant for those having it, and those watching food come by for 90 minutes before having any of their own. We'd been the Morimoto's restaurant in Philadelphia five years before, and planned a trip out of coming to this one. Overall, it was disappointing."

"My husband and I were visiting Napa and found this small restaurant near our hotel. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed the ambiance (it seems to be a small neighborhood place, and not at all pretentious, which we liked). My only suggestion for improvement is that some of the servers are a bit brusque, although the hostess herself was very nice."

"Very expensive but delicious. Ambiance inside is a bit plain. Try to time lunch to coincide with sun on the outdoor tables. By 1:45, towards the end of the lunch session, all the outdoor tables were in shade. Probably best later in the season (we were there in April). The hamachi tacos were a treat. This is a 'grazing' menu with lots of temptations: large selection of sushi. Very easy to run up a substantial bill."

"We have been to this restaurant for the third time in the last six months. Every time we go we try something new and EVERTHING has been delicious. We have eaten at fantastic restaurants all over the world and the food at Morimoto's is always exceptional and creative. I also have to commend the waiters. "Food & wait staff were absolutely amazing.Couple of problems: We had late reservations & were going to order omakase for dinner.We were informed by waiter that omakase stops at 9:00 which was our arrival time. He was kind enough to recreate an order for us & did a fabulous job.Unfortunately at about 10:00 when our entree arrived there was a sudden rush at the bar area & our table was close to the bar. The next thing we knew we had loud people right next to our table almost on top of us and their elbows and behinds right in our faces. So rude!! Also I was seated on the edge table right next to the bar. Waiters, bussers & even the sommelier bumped me at least 10 times. Was told we'll take care of that, but nothing was done."

"This was our second experience at Morimoto's celebrating our twenty-seventh anniversary. The food was again fantastic, the service was great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We order the Rock Shrimp Tempura and Kakuni pork belly for an appetizer, it was so good. My wife had the Cod lunch set and I decided to go for Morimoto's Sashimi plate. Every dish was perfectly prepared and the Sashimi was the fresh, serve on a bed of ice of course. We'll be back with some friends next time to sample more of Morimoto's dishes."
