"We decided to try a new place before the matinee after going to Nineteen many times. My friend wanted to try Bliss, so we made a reservation for lunch. The room is rather small with the tables close together, but the chairs are very comfortable. There were tables outside also, but it was too hot to sit out there! The menu is good with a fair number of choices. Our waiter, Eric, was excellent. We both had the pear and gorgonzola salad which was very good. I had the cheesesteak empanadas and was disappointed since they did not have much flavor and the pastry was greasy. My friend had the chicken panini and was pleased with it. I would probably prefer to not go back to Bliss, but if my friend wanted to I would agree. Nineteen is MUCH better."

"great food and the service team was swell -- however because our entrées took so long and we had theater tix, we were unable to have coffee or dessert. next time we'll reserve a tad earlier so that we can enjoy the full meal~ will return for sure though."

"Finding a good dining choice along Philadelphia's Avenue of the Arts can be hit & miss. We've found that Bliss has the ideal location combined with (usually) good food, service, and atmosphere. We go back again and again."

"Bliss continues to deliver a fabulous dining experience. From the moment you arrive until your meal is finished, you will feel special. The food was delicious (I ordered the salmon and a pear salad). This is my second time at Bliss, and it keeps getting better. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!"

"Great starters: lobster and shrimp salad lightly dressed and flatbread with beef tips, goat cheese and arugula with light balsamic drizzle - both perfect!! The hot seafood pot was scrumptious. Kevin took great care of us and pretty much the entire restaurant. Thank you. Look forward to returning and recommending to friends."

"The windows were open onto Broad Street and as a result we got to hear every loud siren, motor bike, truck etc. Needless to say, the noise did not compliment our meal. We will not return in summer because of this."

"Love their appetizers and they get better and more creative each visit. Service is always charming and responsive. Everyone enjoyed the meal;everything was prepared and presented well. Such a great location on the Avenue of the Arts for pre-concert, shows, etc. Calm and permits conversation which is unusual and really appreciated these days."

"Perfectly situated on the Avenue of the Arts, this restaurant served our purposes for a before-symphony dinner. Sleek decor, small dining room that played music quietly in the background, and floor to ceiling picture windows, made for a new destination to eat before walking the block or so to the Kimmel Center. The Chilean Bass was superb but the seafood hot pot didn't have much flavor. For the money, they could do better with the quality of their bread and rolls. But the wait staff was excellent."

"Food was good but pricey for the quality if the food. Drinks barely had any alcohol in them and I don't like strong drinks! Waitress was polite and the courses just came out too fast. Dinner was done in less than an hour and the restaurant not at all crowded. It wasn't an awful dining experience but I would not go back!"

"this used to be so great but no more. The food was awful. The service poor and smelling of smoke. No one seemed to have a clue. So bad in every way that it was shocking. I don't know if the mgt changed but suffice it to say, its off the list. Sad."

"Bliss has changed a lot since they first opened. I remember very "fancy" and very small portions for lots of money. Apparently that didn't work for them with the Theatre crowd they get. So as far as I can tell from he last two meals there, they have moderated their prices slightly and beefed up portions.. Last time I had the Lobster and shrimp Risotto. It was well flavored, but the risotto a little too sticky. My friend had the crab cake which was a goos size and very well made. The wine list is decent and affordable."

"Mother's Day brunch is a tough one. The restaurants are overloaded and the prix fixe menu has got to be to rough. Bliss is pretty inside and though very busy and a little distracted, our waiter was pleasant and helpful. The salads were lovely, and tomato soup was fresh-tasting and lightly herbaceous. My omelette was watery, though, and the hollandaise on the eggs benedict was bland and a little hardened. Overall, brunch was fine, but I won't hurry back."

"Chose Bliss because of the Open Table - Amex affiliation and because the manager was kind enough to forward me the Mother's Day Brunch menu ahead of time. Location was perfect - 2 blocks from the Kimmel Center where we were attending the 3:00pm Philly Pops concert. We arrived about 10 minutes before our 1:30 reservation and were seated immediately, which was great.
Food was excellent - nicely prepared and good-sized portions as well as a great selection on both the prix-fixe Mother's Day menu as well as their standard menu. However, service was extremely slow, and we finally had to press the server for dessert so that we could make our concert.
We'd go back again for the food, but only when we don't have anything else afterwards."

"I couldn't figure out why the reviews on yelp and here were so varied. The food was good, nice. The waitress was great. I ordered a cheese plate for dessert. They have this strange rule where you have to order 4 hard or 4 soft cheeses- no substitutions. I ordered the 4 soft , happy to find camembert on the menu. The waitress returned and apologized, they were out of camembert so I could have double portions of one of the other cheeses. I asked about a hard cheese instead and she said, no substitutions. It wasn't a substitution, it was a replacement for a cheese they advertised and then didn't have. The fun in a cheese plate is variety. Small things like this, the difference between a substitution and a replacement, matter."

"We always enjoy Bliss and you can't beat it for pre-event dining. Problem was we were there just to enjoy dinner. Once our dinner was served the wait staff forgot us repeatedly and there was only one other couple in the place! Also, there is just way too much food so it is off putting"

"We decided to give Bliss a try since we were going to see the Philly Pops for my birthday. The place was packed. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. She was a real gem. The soft cheese plate appetizer was fantastic and the server took the time to explain the four cheeses. I had the filet which was cooked to perfection. My mom had the pork loin with mashed sweet potatoes and spinach. She loved it. The service would have been 5 star except it took a significant amount of time for us to get our meal. Apparently, a very large party upstairs had thrown the kitchen back some. We still made it for the show and we will definitely go back."

"Our group of 8 went for lunch before a Philadelphia Orchestra concert. We arrived at opening time - 11:30 AM. We wanted to be at Kimmel Center (one block away) by 1 PM. We did not make it. I know serving a table of 8 is challenging but i thought it was not unreasonable for us to get lunch in an hour and a half. I am disappointed it did not happen. One shortcoming may have been that we did not inform the waiter of our time constraints. Many ordered the Fixe prix. Appetizer and dessert courses were spot on. However, my main course of Salmon on Risotto gave me a very dry risotto and overdone salmon. Both were tasty but too dry. Two diners who ordered chicken said it was dry. The waiter was solicitous, courteous, and tried to meet our requests."

"Really enjoyed Bliss. Great location and decor, tho only downside for us was being put upstairs which is a bit dark and living roomy...server was excellent and split up the crab salad we asked for which was excellent. My gf had seafood risotto which was excellent and I had seafood hotpot which was nice if a touch watery. Overall though I felt the food was quality and we had a great experience. We will be back"

"In a city with fantastic dining options, Bliss is a mediocre choice. The scallops with pineapple chutney, the filet flatbread, and duck were fine. All were standard dishes. For the prices we expected more creativity. Two items from our dinner that did stand out were the short rib special and the peanut butter s'more dessert. Both were fantastic and worth the price paid. Food arrived on time, but service was awkward. Our waiter scolded another employee in front of our table for not offering bread before our appetizers arrived and at the end asked if we could possibly tip in cash. The two great dishes we had did not make a good enough impression for us to have a return trip to the restaurant."

"Bliss is a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere. We sat at a table but the bar also looked like an inviting place to sit and have a drink. Our waiter was knowledgeable, pleasant, and helpful. There were no problems and the experience was enjoyable. The reason for my rating was that the food was good but not memorable. We ordered a ricotta-crab gnudi and it was a little gritty and fishy. The entree's were both good, we had the Sea Bass and the Seafood Pot, but again nothing special. Bliss has a lot of potential but they are ruining their chances with lack-luster food. We were there at 8:00pm on a Saturday night and the place was less than half full. Its a shame someone at Bliss doesn't have more vision."

"Great location - close to the theaters and good for people-watching along Broad St.
Food was nothing special but good, solid American with an emphasis on seasonal produce and seafood. The desserts were excellent. Sadly my filet was more well than medium.
Overall we enjoyed it but not sure the food was worth the price tag."

"They were fantastic from the get go. I had asked for them to put a simple note on the table indicating it was my wife and my first anniversary. They independently and with no cost bought a beautiful Hallmark card and staff delicately penned a lovely message to us. The service was excellent and the convivial waiter top-notch, striking that perfect balance of interested in our experience but allowing a private dinner. And the food...well get the gnocchi, you will think about it the whole next week! Please go, I know I will again."

"One of the worst food experiences we have had in our many world wide trips. The black bean sauce paired with a so-so very dry beef tenderloin was even worse than the very hard and bitter brussle sprouts and mushy so called potatoe pancakes. On a Friday night the place was nearly vacant. I suggest they close it."

"We always eat at Bliss before attending the theater at the Academy or the Merriam. You can never go wrong with dinner at Bliss. They always have a creative menu ... always offering a special fish and/or a special gnocchi. The maitre'd, the wait staff and bartender are always "up", pleasing and have a need to keep the customer happy. If only all restaurants in the Philadelphia would follow Bliss' lead. Bravo !"
