"Incredible food and ambience, but their guys they have filling up your water all seemed to be high. They kept starting at me and my date very creepily or would approach the table and say nothing. Othet than that serious 10/10 fantastix everueverythingthing else."

"Bland, portions inconsistent. Plates that came out with same food items...some had large amounts, some had rather small amounts. How would you judge this restaurant if a server tells you to come back for Brunch, that it's better than their dinners?"

"Food and service top notch as usual from the valet to the owner greeting you and seating you immediately at reservation time, we had no wait, however, seated in the front dining room next to the bar, it is very difficult to have a conversation or hear by the musician in the bar.
We appreciated the offer to turn the music down and the musician said he would but we noticed no difference even after a waiter also asked the musician to take it down a few notches a second time. It is so hard with restaurant acoustics to get the right balance, but when live music takes over the foreground then it detracts from the otherwise excellent experience!
Both of my other visits, I sat in the back room with the fireplace and it was HEAVNLY!"

"Gorgeous little gem close to Ferndale's electric night scene, but a world away. Well curated pasta and Italian entrees on a great seasonal menu. The seafood and pasta dishes are flavourful and cooked just right. The tomato sauces are to be savoured. The Caprese salad was the best I have eaten this side of Toronto's Little Italy."

"I took my parents here during restaurant week, and we were all fairly disappointed. The bacon wrapped scallop appetizer was the most enjoyable, but the bacon on one of them was a bit under cooked. My father's fennel salad had no taste, save for the actual fennel. The stuffed veal was mediocre at best...something I imagine they would serve at Olive Garden at a more reasonable price. My mother's steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as she requested it, but again, the meat was not high quality, which made for a less than tender steak. Service was polite, but not very efficient.
Shame on them if they used lesser quality food for the special pricing, and shame on them if this is their regular fare."

"I would say that the experience was nice. Would I attend here again, yes. If I had to choose between here and say Brizola, Coach Insignia, Iridescence or Cliff Bells, I wouldn't choose La Dolce Vita first. While my experience was decent, I did not care much for the valet-parking, because it wasn't necessary. I did end up paying for it, which if I can walk 10 feet and be at my car $5.00 just wasn't worth it. But the food was good. My wife and I enjoyed our evening. It would be a nice restaurant during summer, or fall nights to eat outside with friends and family. The servers where nice and timely. Good time!"

"I ordered from the Detroit Restaurant Week menu. I ordered the veal and it was a little burnt on the bottom but still good. The restaurant was very busy and I was glad to see that in the city of Detroit."

"I went to LDV for Detroit Restaurant Week and the food on the menu was so disappointing. The food was bland and over-all not special. I felt like I was at wedding with a terrible caterer. I've been to LDV in the past and ordered off the regular menu and from what I recall it was better. I think this was the last time I will go there. The restaurant was WAY too loud. I was really looking forward to the bumpy cake, too, and they were out by the time dessert came around. This place used to be a hidden gem. Now it's tired and disappointing. It needs a total refresh into the 21st century of culinary arts."

"the building looks like a bunker with little signage. It's difficult to find. Inside the décor is old world Italy but with plastic grape vines hanging on one wall. On the up side there are big arced windows. Bread was dry and tasteless with no butter or oil until I asked and only 2 pieces given at a time. The main dish was acceptable but unremarkable as was the desert. The bumpy cake looked like a Saunders creation right out of the box. Overall I was disappointed and won't be back. As I left I was wondering what snack I might find at home as the meal wasn't really enough. Again on the up side, the service was good with many waiters and bus staff."

"We were welcomed by a very friendly and accommodating maitre d'. We did order off of the "Restaurant Week" menu, even though we got some pressure from the waiter to order "off" the menu. He told us the Caprese salad was "OK", and that the things on the special menu were not on the regular menu (which wasn't true). The food was very good and the atmosphere was lively and fun. From where I sat (side dining room), place could use a little updating but I did not see the entire restaurant."

"This was our first time going. It's a lovely resturant and our waiter was very good. Unfortunately, I was very dissappointed with my food and presentation. There was a lady next to me that ordered the same dish, it looked fresh and much better than mine."

"This was our first time at La Dolce Vita and it was a nice experience. The only complaint that we had was that none of our dishes that came out of the kitchen were hot. The food took a long time to be served to us so I imagine that the food sat for a long time in the kitchen or the kitchen just doesn't send out hot food. The restaurant is a very nice one and is in a unique location. We have also heard really good things about the place but on that night they didn't live up to our expectations."

"My parents and I went for Detroit Restaurant Week. My father and I ordered the specials, and my Mom opted for the linguine with clams. The food was excellent, and so was the wait staff. Our only complaint was the live music was a bit too loud and we found ourselves shouting across the table to maintain conversation."

"We can't say enough about the outstanding servie and server that waited on us. The food was good. However, our selection was from the DRW menu very limited; not able to appreciate the real Italian cuisine of many veal dishes other than what was offered. Would have prefered the thinly slice cut veal selections.
We had a problem with the open table 100 points being awarded. The restaurant had no knowledge of the program and suggested that we contact Open Table regarding the awarding of points."

"We were a table of 4. Two of us arrived 15 minutes before hand. We were seated at a table near the bar. Lovely. Apparently there was a mix-up in seating, as two people at the bar were waiting for table we got. It happened a couple of times more. Two of our people had been seated elsewhere, so we found them, reunited and had a lovely dinner. Very nice mellow music by a talented musician. Dinner was superb, service very good. Valet excellent, and for a moment we felt the ambience... it was like a cafe in Rome or Sicily."

"Took my wife and daughter there for their birthdays and had an enjoyable evening. Food was good but the perch was disappointing.Very small..I've seen anchovies larger than the perch they presented on their entree. Wouldn't recommend the perch if you're hungry."

"Though I've never dined on the patio, it was what caught my eye. I call it, the hidden gem on Woodward because it's in a not so great neighborhood (as many of the best restaurants are in my opinion) and there is no entrance or much of a visual presence from the street. I, however, noticed the illuminated LDV and the string lights between buildings over patio area. Curiosity led me to a beautifully adorned Italian restaurant with live entertainment and a great bar. The Sinfonia di mare and the Filetto and Scampi were unbelievably delicious, along with prosecco and chianti. Mr. Jason Lawrence was very knowledgeable and introduced us to smoked salmon...and our host went through the pictures on the wall....a bit of history and a good meal!"

"La Dolce Vita lived up to my expectations as an ideal Sunday brunch venue. Frank, our server, was wonderful and attentive. The music was fabulous with a world class guitarist and percussionist who kept it lively and festive but not too loud. The music definitely added to the environment by creating a great mood within a vintage setting. There was enough variety on the menu to satisfy the group I was with, and the bottomless mimosas just kept on flowing. I think the banana french toast was the hit at the table although the crepes looked fabulous. Dessert included an authentic bumpy cake plus a cheese cake and cannoli to die for. I will certainly bring friends for future celebrations to this very special place in Detroit. Highly recommend!"

"We made a reservation for Sunday March 24 at 6pm for a table of five for our Daughter's birthday. We arrived on time and there was NO table available for FORTY minutes. We stood in the lobby in the way of the waiters and staff because there was nowhere to go. We were asked after being seated if we were going to the show downtown and once again said that we were there for a family dinner. The excuse that we were given regarding the incompetence of them honoring a reservation was that while they only had 64 people on reserve over 200 showed up to dine prior to attending a show downtown. Our table was in a freezing area of the back dining room and the chairs were very uncomfortable...taken from storage to increase seating?"

"This restaurant is in a typical Detroit neighborhood, 6 mile and Woodward. But don't let that deter you. A little hard to find, look for the LDV sign over the front gates. It is a gem. Great food, inspiring menu, friendly staff and live music. A cosmopolitan crowd comes here. Everyone from age 21 to 63 had a great time at this place. Can't wait to go back in the summer and experience the patio."
