"We went to Mr. Rain's Fun House for dinner on Father's Day. My 20 month old son is really into windmills right now and was mesmerized by the "whirligig" that was rotating just outside of the outdoor patio. It was so nice to be able to enjoy a dinner without having to tell my son to constantly use his "inside voice" and without having to entertain him the entire time. My husband ordered the burger and I got the trout. Both dishes were very good, but we always have difficulty ordering here because the menu is limited and typically only has one or two dishes that appeal to us. The service was also great. We look forward to coming back to Mr. Rain's again soon!"

"Just went to Mr Rain's Fun House for the first time and I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My three companions and I ate there for lunch and we all had excellent meals. The views are wonderful. There are nice touches like the addicting mini pretzel rolls. "Gourmet-ish" but not at all pretentious. Small menu selection but enough choices to please vegetarians, carnivores and everyone in between. Delicious hand cut french fries."

"The food was excellent, but service was a bit slow- took about 20 minutes just to get our drinks, and we sat there about 15 minutes before we were able to place an order. I would come here again, just for the food, but will expect to be there a while due to service."

"We have been here before and had incredible meals, so this particular night was a bit of a disappointment. It was very good, but not the knock it out of the park experience we are used to. We were both sad that we forgot to order a side veggie because the meals do not have anything in the way of vegetables included. We both had the red trout, which was surprisingly heavy."

"Started off with cocktails which were fantastic. Inventive, seasonal, and delicious. The mini soft pretzels as the bread offering were excellent, eat them while they're warm. Charcuterie plate was nice. The shrimp and kimchi entree had great promise, but lacked flavor. The broth was one dimensional. My partner had the black eyed pea cake entree which was much better. Only two dessert offerings, seemed like an afterthought. We opted for liquid dessert with a couple dessert wines."

"The service here was pretty slow. On two occasions during the evening a different server tended to our needs because our server was nowhere to be found. Even so, the server was definitely friendly and knowledgeable. The food was pretty flavorful, but we found it to be overly salty. The ruby red trout had a lovely glaze, and the butcher's burger was overwhelmingly meaty. The pretzel bites are the gem of this place. Keep asking for more!!! The pickle plate is pretty spicy; my wife could not handle it. The drinks are awesome, and they would serve as the main reason for a return visit. I tried the Cerveza Sangria and the "Rules of the Game" cocktail, and my wife had the "Fresca" version of the Sangria. Definitely good portions."

"Fun ambience with serious food. Great service, exceptional and innovative cocktails and food. We shared the crabmeat & mango tartare appetizer and could have eaten it all night. I had the roast chicken which was exceptional and I never even eat chicken when I dine out! My wife had the adobo short ribs and she thought they ranked very high and she is a ribs lover. "My boyfriend and I came here on a double-date after checking out AVAM. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the soft-shell crabs, which were meaty and fried in a tempura. We also got the pickle plate and the mushrooms, which were great appetizers to share with the group. We shared a burger with kimchi on it, which was cooked perfectly and totally hit the spot. We really appreciate that they use organic local sourced meats as well."

"I picked this restaurant because we are fans of the museum and it looked like a great place for a birthday dinner celebration. The food was great but the experience was marred by inept service by our server. He promised pretzel bites when he took our drink order, they never came to our table. He disappeared for lengths of time, coming back to get our dessert order when my partner was in the bathroom. I did not raise a concern while there because I did not want to turn the nice evening into a fault-finding exercise. But the maitre d' did not see the Open Table reservation's note that it was a special event (added when I booked). Will I go back? Yes, but not for a significant event."

"This restaurant was an absolute delight. Unlike other museum restaurants, this one was out of the park! The ambiance and decor is awesome and quirky in a great way.
More importantly, our dishes were quite tasty. The tuna poke appetizer with avocado ice cream was absolutely amazing. So many complex flavors and so delicate and perfect for a hot summer night. The charcuterie plate was very good and not too heavy. Get the sangria flights! So refreshing and tasty! Props to our waitress for letting us share our flights and still giving us hefty pours! Our chorizo burger was a little dry, but the flavors made up for it.
Overall,this restaurant is a repeater and I am eager to try other dishes at this restaurant!"

"The art here is always really interesting, and although may look "off the wall" strange at first, the descriptions and explanations flip your perception of the pieces upside down and end up blowing your mind away. Needless to say, the AVAM is not your typical art museum experience.
The food at Mr. Rain's Fun House was delicious! We started with the poke and the crab and mango - must try both. I had their rye cocktail (so yum if you're a rye fan) and a friend ordered a glass of their white sangria, which was super refreshing. Oxtail terrine, shrimp and kimchi, and the ribeye were all melt in your mouth delicious. Warning: their cheesecake is made with Roquefort cheese = sheep's milk blue cheese (not a fan of goat cheese)."

"Did the wine-pairing multi-course dinner 9PM seating for New Years Eve. Food was excellent (although a little skimpy, e.g., oyster "course" was two oysters, albeit excellent ones) and the wines very well-chosen. Live jazz band was a real treat, top-rate musicians (I'm guessing Peabody Conservatory students). It was a fun evening. Just before midnight everyone went out onto the terrace (about 3 floors up) and watched the Inner Harbor fireworks explode and toasted the New Year - it was great! Then we went back inside, pushed back the tables and danced - even more fun! All in all a fabulous evening. We had a hotel in town (Baltimore Hilton - not great) and luckily caught a taxi right outside around 1AM - sweet. I love this restaurant."

"I purchased a Groupon and so my roommate and I went for a girls night out. We sat on the patio and had Chaz as our waitress. The Ambiance was awesome, the food was amazing and Chaz was attentive and engaging without being over bearing. She could tell we were out for a relaxing evening with good food and she made that happen for us! The Kim chi is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Could have eaten an entire bowl of it! Will be back!"

"Mr. Rain's was wonderful, their menu is always changing! I especially love the Filipino inspired menu items! It does get a bit noisy and hard to hear sometimes. I highly recommend sitting out on the balcony, weather permitting. We took our mom there for Friday night dinner. The food was fantastic.There was a little problem with technology/billing but the manager came out and adjusted our bill to make up for the delay and mistaken multiple card charges. We are still waiting for the charges to clear - it takes a few days, but I appreciate their customer service in making it right."

"When paying $15+ for a hamburger, I expect my medium-rare request to be fulfilled with ease -- not answered with a well-done burger. Unacceptable. I've had pleasant experiences at Mr. Rain's in the past so I will most likely give them another shot, but this most recent visit was nothing to write home about, sadly."

"The specialty cocktails are great, and the sangria flight offers a variety that any sangria-lover will enjoy. The food is on the ever-changing menu is good as well. I had the ribeye that was well-cooked, if a little fatty. My wife had the sausage plate. The house sauerkrat was a nice accompaniment as well. I did catch an error on the bill. The sangria flight was advertised on the menu as $23; however, I noticed that it showed as $25 on the bill. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and the staff was more than happy to correct it when it was brought to their attention. This was our second time at Mr. Rain's and we would definitely return again."

"A fun day at the American Museum of Visionary Art (a fabulously eclectic museum in Federal Hill) was perfectly married with a visit to this gem. The decor is industrial meets brocade with some fun chandeliers for good measure. The food feels farm fresh and somewhat inventive. We had the pulled pork and the fish of the day; perfect portions and special requests were well accommodated. We will certainly be back. A fun casual environment."

"The restaurant was not very busy on Wednesday evening, would not have needed reservations. Being inside the museum is cool, but you only get to see a very small part of it. The food is pretty good, the waitress had a very good knowledge of the menu. The drinks are even better than the food, good wine list too. Not as high end or as expensive some other restaurants close by for a special occasion. This is definently a place I could eat at any day of the week."

"We had a nice time, but the food was not memorable. The featured cocktails look very strange on the menu, but then I didn't have one. I had a specialty lager, which was great. Altogether, we are very pleased to live a short walk from this somewhat neat place in a special venue. It has acres of space, so the bar scene does not disturb diners. There was a private occasion going on in a separate room which kept the noise away. As I said it was a nice time."

"Much better than visits in prior years. We took a family of 9 there, including a disabled 6 year old, after visiting the museum and the harbor. The locally sourced food, the unusual cocktails, the great selection of American whiskeys all were first rate. Surprisingly, the bean cakes on the vegetarian plate were one of the big hits, and, not surprisingly, the crab and mango cocktail. Sauces were all bright and distinctive throughout the dinner. Importantly, when our little one got fussy at the beginning of the meal, the waitress instantly brought out pretzel rolls which solved the problem, and, at our request, the child's dinner came out quickly. Everybody would be glad to return to the restaurant and the fantastic museum as well."

"I dined on the outdoor terrace on Friday night - a little chilly but well worth it for the splendid views of Federal Hill Park. My companion and I both started with the Sleepwalker cocktail - very light and sweet. We split the tuna poke and the crab and mango appetizer. Both were well made and flavorful. For entrees I had the chicken which was a little dry for my taste but the mushroom gravy helped. My friend had the steak which had a great spice rub and sauce along with a potato pave which was crispy on the top and moist inside."

"Mr. Rain's Funhouse is one of my favorite places to be. I don't go nearly enough so when this event came up I knew where to plan. The entrees are interesting and there is something for everyone. There drinks are really over the top, exciting and worth the individual attention they get in the making... The hospitality and flexibility of the staff is impeccable - they operate as a team well, are pleased when you are asking the 50th question ~ amazing... The ambiance as the early evening winds down and the sun sets - the sparkle and wonder of the space begins.. wonderful experience."

"This was my second visit, but my husband's first. The menu is quite eclectic and unusual, so don't be shy about asking questions to make sure you know what you're ordering. Our server was fantastic and answered every question we could think of about the menu (food and drinks). The menu varies by season and ingredient availability, so it's not wise to form an attachment to any specific dish. The chef is a culinary genius, so you're not likely to be disappointed by anything that you order. The Roquefort Cheese Cake was surprisingly sweet and tart, and not your typical factory-produced cheese cake. Hubby enjoyed it thoroughly after being talked into trying it by our server, and he's not a cheese cake fan."

"Everything was great except the noise level. It was very difficult to hear each other. Also the feathery centerpieces blocked the other diners at our table. We ended up moving it. But the food was delicious and the people were lovely. The museum is one of our favorite places in the world."

"Mr. Rain's Fun House is truly a destination restaurant. The food is innovative and delicious, but the vibe and foundation of the restaurant is so eclectic it may be off-putting for some. With that said, we really enjoyed our experience becuase it was so different. There are no other restaurants in Baltimore to really compare it to. The pretzel rolls are a delight and my husband and I really enjoyed the Tuna Poke appetizer. Service is attentive and the whole experience was fun."
