"The Mountain House is a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax with a lovely meal. Driving up there is beautiful and once there the food and ambiance is perfect. "The staff at Mountain House are always the best. Unlike so many restaurants that make you feel like you are imposing on them with multiple rules, you feel like the guest at Mountain House. We love to celebrate special family occasions here. As always, the ribs and stuffed peppers were hits along with the hamachi tartare. We will be back again."

"For me this is what I could only dream of. A little red cabin in the woods with amazing food, friendly servers, a great jukebox in a serene setting. Driving up during the colder months to a little house with a fire going with great food serves to warm the heart as well as the belly. I love it so much I don't want to share it but I shall not be so selfish. We always look forward to coming to the Mountain House. Always. <3

"A wonderful experience - our waiter went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied with our food & wine. He brought 2 glasses of wine to our table that were not to our liking. He kept double checking to make sure everyone was satisfied. He was attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent. We will return again & again to this beautiful "tree house" in Woodside - a true gem."

"The Mountain House is a great find. It's a wonderful drive through the redwoods to the restaurant. They have inviting bar and usually have a fire in the fireplace. The bar has more of the feel of a neighborhood pub with local families visiting with friends. The food is excellent and the specials are always include unique game and fish dishes. "My drink, a tequila gimlet over was perfection. Our server WADE was excellent, attentive, patient, explained the menu and specials to our complete satisfaction and let us have our space but came around just enough to make sure everything was ok. My only complaint was that the bison steak was ordered med rare and rec'd almost well making it tough but the rest of the dinner was perfect."

"Love the Mountain House! The 5 stars are for the meat dishes. I don't eat a lot of meat, but when I do... hehe. Mountain House has some ridiculously good venison, pheasant, duck ragout... "I LOVE this place! Cozy and friendly atmosphere, with staff that treats you like part of the family. Everyone wants to be there! I never tasted real food until I came here; now, I'm ruined! The price is awesome. The fresh fish specials always rock and and lamb chops were THE BEST I've ever tasted. "Overall a good experience. We called ahead and asked to be seated in the "porch" area overlooking the redwoods. We were told that a large party would be happening there and might be noisy but decided to risk it. We were midway through our entrees when the party arrived. Conversation became difficult after that but did appreciate that we were warned ahead of time.
Our server was very personable and attentive but he was stretched very thin. It took a long time to get drinks which seemed to be due to a combination of slow service at the bar and not enough wait staff. Neither noise nor slow bar dampened the evening.
Mountain House does a much better job than many of the newer, trendier places in the area."

"Poor service. Checked in for the 8pm reservation at 7:45. After seeing 2 parties that came in after we did and did not have reservations get seated Plus was not good. Oh well, it happens. Got seated and greeted by the waitress. Said that she will will have bread and water brought to us. After almost 4 minutes, she returned with menus and was surprised that no water or bread was brought to us. Took our order, and brought us the bread and water. After our salads were brought to us, she said our main dish would be there shortly. After 45 minutes, still not main dish, she said that she got our order in after a large group. Too bad to two other tables, seated and ordered after us go their meal before us.

We had a party of six, the price was very reasonable-much less than I had anticipated. We had two appetizers for the table, soup and salad (each), the main course and desserts all around. "Went their for my lady friend's birthday with a group of 6 and had an amazing experience. The food is great, as is the service. Their wine list is great and affordably priced. I look forward to going back there again, especially in the daylight when you can see all the redwoods."

"The food was out of this world! I ordered 1 of the specials, salmon with gnocchi, and it tasted phenomenal. My friend, who is a choosy eater, was impressed with the food & ambiance. We both felt like we were sitting in a tree house among the redwoods, a very cool feeling coming from the bustling, paved city of San Francisco. I highly recommend trying their lemondrops, also amazing & chilled just right with fresh lemon. This place gets the highest rating in my book! There were 2 birthdays being celebrated that evening & we sang along, but then it died down & became very intimate. The best atmosphere for any event!"

"The Mountain House is one of our favorite spots to visit and we save it for special occasions only because of the trek :)
Our last visit proved to be no different. It was lovely, the Ahi (new special) was especially delicious and my boyfriend's venison (which he orders every time and which I sample every time) was as tender and flavorful as always. Carrie, our server, and Jerry, owner and exec. chef, were very welcoming, kind, and accommodating. We will continue to be very happy patrons here."

"It was okay. The reviews were all so great and we had hoped for a dinner to rave about. But that wasn't our experience. My husband eats all meat rare but he had to send the pork chop back as quite close to raw on one end. My beef bourguignon was okay. Quite unusually, it did not have any bacon so the flavor was lacking a bit of the smoky/salty addition that lardon or bacon adds. And I had three bites that were fat. The creme brule had a lovely custard, though the brule was slightly overdone and left a lingering burn flavor. On the good side, our server was very knowledgable. And the wine list was quite good. If we return, it will be with the hope of a new experience rather than repeat of the one we had."

"My wife and I chose Mountain House to have a romantic dinner but found the dining hall at night to be only rustic and mostly without charm. It had been a long time since we ate in a restaurant where nothing tasted good, but this meal succeeded. My Beef Bourguignon wasn't just flat, it actually had a bad flavor and the meat was tough, but I forced it down. My wife couldn't eat but a few bites of her baby back ribs or her shoestring potatoes which were oily and limp.
On the positive side, the service was good and it was quiet so we could easily talk. Try going here in the day time on your motorcycle to take in the scenery along the way and maybe try a hamburger at the bar."
