"We had an excellent meal to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We usually travel to center city for a special dinner, but this year we needed to stay close to home because we had plans for early the next morning. I pass this restaurant on my way to work and thought it looked like a very nice place. We decided to try it and we were not disappointed! The food was amazing and the service was top knotch! We had a lovely evening and we will definitely put Ristorante San Marco on our list of favorite restaurants! And it's such a bonus that it's only fifteen minutes from home!"

"I went with my girlfriend for her birthday. The food was ok. I had a veal dish that was very good. She had a lobster salad. I had a cheesecake for dessert which was terrible. Service was the worst. We had a waiter who almost completely ignored us to wait on larger tables who were obviously regulars. He had no interest in my table. I would not return, but it may have potential if the service wasn't so bad"

"Our dinner was very good and reasonable.
BUT, watch out for the " specials". They are way overpriced and they don't tell you the price unless you ask. How does a restaurant justify charging almost twice as much for a "special" entree compared to the price of an entree on the regular menu? And, the waiter took less interest in our table when we didn't order a special."

"My husband and I went to this restaurant some time ago and really liked it which is why we decided to take our family there for my middle son's birthday. However, both my husband and I were a little disappointed. The service was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere but the menu fell short and the food was very disappointing. The portions were very small and overpriced and frankly was just not that tasty. I felt a little "ripped off" upon leaving."

"We are frequent diners at San Marco.The food never disappoints.We went on Friday this time instead of our normal Saturday, and found the service much more relaxed.We frequently feel rushed on Saturdays.Menu is wonderful and always lots of specials-they even offered to do a special for my husband that was not featured that night,but that he had eaten and loved previously,but instead he chose the veal with shrimp in brandy cream sauce - he is still talking about it.I,being vegetarian,had the portobello mushroom appetizer - they have told me how they prepare the mushrooms,which are exquisitely tender and flavorful,but I have not been able to do it at home.Also had mezzaluna pasta with tomato concasse.Possibly best concasse ever.Go,eat,enjoy!"

"This was my first time at San Marco after hearing some good reviews. THe restaurant was lovely and the food was great. We were with another couple and we all came away with the feeling that we were being rushed. We had no time just to sit over our drinks and relax without feeling like we had to make our dinner decision in minutes after hearing the specials. I know this was a comment I read in some other reviews so I think they need to slow the pace down a bit. We did have some laughs about the service on the way home."

"We dine at San Marco several times a year.Superb upscale Italian food.Grilled portobello mushroom salad was lightly dressed and tasty.Crostini with fresh chopped tomato was delicious and crunchy.My husband's stuffed veal chop special was tender and delicious - served with roasted potatoes.I am vegetarian-San Marco will not,as some places do,remove meat or seafood from an entree and reduce the price,but there are lots of veggie choices.I had the stuffed mezzaluna pasta with tomato concasse-one of the best tomato based dishes I have had in a restaurant.Service rated low because they tend to rush us,even though we told them we were not in a hurry.But the great food takes us back!"

"If you deal with extremely loud urestaurants, this is the place for you! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and the service was spot-on, but the noise was incredible - at some times, painful, literally. "Great as usual. Took my wife for her birthday and she loved it. Going a little earlier on Saturday evening led to a quieter, more romantic, experience. Later on the noise level becomes "energetic" meaning it is tough to talk to other people at your table. Love the food and prices are reasonable given the quality. Attentive service. Romantic setting. Excellent selection of dishes."

"Food and service were excellent. We had a 7:30 reservation, arrived at 7:00 to enjoy a cocktail and the owner wanted to seat us immediately. While having our drink he walked by us several times to let us know he was ready for us. Just felt rushed. This wasn't our first visit here nor was it the first we felt rushed by the owner. Back off Leo and let your customers enjoy a night out."

"I've never been to an upscale Italian restaurant where you could not enjoy your meal comfortably. Most Italian dinners are relaxing and comfortable. At San Marco, it felt as though we were getting forced out of the place. I asked for a few minutes after getting our appetizers to enjoy and relax and not worry about the dinner yet, but we had 2 different waiters come and essentially force is to put an order in. The food really was not anything special and I would not reccomend this place."

"San Marco is a one hour drive for us and one which we happily undertake including turnpike, 202 etc. My best friend lives in Ambler and we make it special 5-6 times a year. (wish it were more) Sun dried tomatoe linguine with scallops and shrimp in white wine sauce as an appetizer was wonderful as was the braciolli in diabalo sauce. Friends escarole and small meatball soup was really superb. Service is incredible. We always feel like we are regulars and are welcome. Lemoncello after drink is the best you can have anywhere. We love all the specials too."

"The service was maginal as table service for such dishes as Dover Sole were done on a tray used to clear tables and not very appealing. The waiters were more interested in moving the table than serving the diners as my wife and I felt rushed and pushed. When I asked about some Italian wines I was steered to the higher priced bottles vs comments on several options as a few price points and the waiter never asked for preferences. Our table was placed right next to another two top while the table one over that would have been preferred and not on top of our neighbor was apparently not an option but was used to place used plates that then sat there for periods of time.Not likely to return, although we have had good experiences in the past."

"Our meal was vey good. However, the remainder of the evening was very disappointed. The service was far below what we expected. No one offered us a wine selection. The server asked us if we wanted something to drink. He was less than personable. Actually, we never once saw the same waitstaff the entire evening. No one ever came back to ask us if we would like another drink. A women came to clear some of the table and asked if we wanted desert. No one ever came to ask us if we enjoyed our dinner and we finally had to ask the waiter at the next table to get our check. Again, the same women t take our credit card. I would have to say it was FAR BELOW our expectations!! Maybe Valentine's Day was a BIg mistake!!"

"Although our encounter with San Marco was on the MOST visited night ...Valentines Daythe restaurant still held up to my expectations of a delicious evening. The waiting staff clearly had their duties mapped out and they all seemed to carry them out with precision. We were among the 1st seating, and therefore the agenda to serve and "move out" was followed well. We wanted ,in particular, to just eat and not to linger over wine. Although bronzino was not on the menu they were prepared to cook me one since I had called ahead (MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THERE of anywhere in Philly!) ...however in the end I decided on Dover Sole , also cooked just for me. How wonderful for their willingness to get me what I would love..even in the rush!"

"This was my second dinner at San Marco and I had a very similar experience. The food was good, but I was not happy wit in the service. After arriving the host asked us to wait one moment while she went to check on our table. Shortly after a man met us at the front and began to escort us to our table. But, when he realized it was not ready, we stood in the "prep" area and waited. It was very crowded and we felt very rushed. When we arrived at our table we were handed menus. After some time our server arrived and asked us what we wanted to drink. I asked for a wine menu, which he provided. After we ordered, the appetizer was brought out within a reasonable amount of time, but the food seemed to take longer than expected. Overall, OK."

"The sea bass was out of this world delicious! And I appreciated the accommodation for a fruit plate for dessert. The fruit was so fresh and sweet. However, it did take a long time for our waiting to come to our table to get our drink order and the restaurant itself was very loud, making it difficult to hear my table's conversation."

"we went to this restaurant as part of Ambler restaurant week - we had to ask for the special menu, then we felt as if we were second class citizens. We asked our server for the wine menu but we were told that they only have one type of wine by the glass!! Seems odd for a high end restaurant. When the assistant to our server brought over the dessert tray the server, who was several tables away, said - they are on the special menu, only 3 desserts are offered! At this point we were unimpressed. For us it was an opportunity to try a restaurant that we heard was good but somewhat pricey.The attitude of the wait staff will be what keeps us from returning."

"Have heard they have a reputation for adding items to the check that were not ordered. Sure enough I caught an extra glass of wine that we didn't order on our bill. Also it was Ambler Restaurant Week, they didn't offer that menu we had to ask specifically for it. That menu was a half hearted effort in my mind. Service was uneven, first waiter took our cocktail order, second waiter asked if we were ready to order, we were not even served our cocktails yet. The room was half full so there was no need to turn our table at 7:30 on a Wednesday night. Food here is always solid but expensive."
