La Belle Vie
La Belle Vie, one of the most lauded restaurants of the Twin Cities, is a chef-driven restaurant located in the historic 510 Groveland Building, sharing the neighborhood with the newly expanded Walker Arts Center. Tim McKee, executive chef, is nationally recognized for his fresh interpretation of traditional French Mediterranean cuisine. "La Belle Vie showed us once again why they are the best restaurant in the Twin Cities. The atmosphere, with tables far apart, is quiet and relaxing. The décor is elegant. The servers are there when you need them but do not intrude into your privacy. Ah the food! Our group of 4 had the shortest tasting menu, and we don't know how anybody can make it through the two larger tasting menus. We were completely full after 5 courses: sea bass, sturgeon, young chicken, beef, and citrus flan. Each was a work of art; each was a mouthful of wonderful flavors. LBV is at the top of its game. Another nice touch is, despite a very expensive wine list, the wines by the glass are sold by the bottle, as low as $28!"

"As always, a superlative meal and experience. The 5-course tasting menu was full of flavors and just the right proportions for each serving (although our table thought the chicken entree was the weakest one - good, but not great). Our server was nice, but thought she seemed a bit stiff or uncomfortable. We appreciate being in a room with settings that allow quiet table conversation without having to compete with nearby, loud tables or blaring music.

"Waited over 10 minutes before any server even knew we had been seated and came over to greet us, bring water, etc., but once they found us, the food and wine were fabulous and service slowly improved. Some of the problem might have been how dead the place was on a Sunday evening, so maybe the staff were bored/inattentive."

"The food quality was amazing, quantity not so much. My husband and I opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings, it really was a tasting menu. Most often when we have a dinner date we choose chef's choice as it allows us to sample many offerings, usually I am overwhelmed by large servings. As for $400 tab, for us that is often the case, we just expected a bit more food. Don't think we'll be back."

"This was our second visit. We were not impressed the first time and decided to give this another try. Glad we did. The food was truly outstanding. The portions were perfect and we left feeling very satisfied and comfortable - we actually like leaving with the feeling we can't wait to return for "more." The only criticism is that we were seated next to the kitchen door and that was a bit distracting. Otherwise we had a wonderful experience."

"We had a perfectly delightful time. The chef let us do an abbreviated set of courses as neither of us was up to a five course meal (you can order a la carte but this seemed like more fun and it was fun). The food was wonderful--creative and delicious. The portions were small but that was exactly what we wanted. That way we got to try more dishes. The service was excellent. We had a very enjoyable evening."

"Dessert looked pretty but it didn't taste greati didn't finish it. Maybe I chose the wrong dessert? But overall, it was a good experience. And go with someone that can eat an will eat what's on the tasting menu. That way you can eat at the same time."

"The menu was varied and imaginative. My friend ordered Skate and was very glad she decided to try it. It came with such a variety of tastes and textures that we were amazed. They have an expert mixologist in their bar, so we enjoyed really creative and delicious cocktails before our wine. Everything was superb. We'll be going back."

"Food was very good, high quality. The prices where very expensive for the amount of food I got here. I have got much larger portions at other fine dining around town. After spending $200 on a 3 course meal, I would have still been very hungry if it had not been for the bread, which I ate about 6 slices of and when I asked for more bread, the waiter never returned with it."
