"The food was only so-so, nothing special at all. Very disappointing. The shrimp pasta dish was bland and boring. The special pastas were ok but much less than expected. Service was fair. I had requested a special birthday candle for my daughter and did not receive. Overall, a disappointing experience and would not go back."

"We took a shot in the dark looking for a special occasion restaurant in the midtown area for a large group (8). We asked for a quiet place, since a couple of our attendees had hearing difficulties. The staff accommodated us with a great setting in a private area. The food, wine, and total experience were great! We took their card, because we have every expectation of coming again. I would highly recommend this restaurant based on our experience."

"While the atmosphere of the place is superb and the service is very attentive, the food is extremely disappointing, especially considering the high price tag of each course. My experience was particularly disappointing since I chose this place to celebrate my graduation based on the reviews of this website, and even got my parents brought from abroad. I'd rather have dinner in a tastier neighborhood joint any day than visiting this place again."

"The staff at Bello's know what good service looks like. Eat there and feel pampered in a quiet way. The wait staff is experienced, and attentive without being ostentatious. Water glasses are filled promptly, the menu is discussed without rushing, and the dinner is paced so that the meal is enjoyable without being either dragged out or pushed in. All the employees know how to smile and greet you, so you feel very welcome here. And, of course, the food is delicious. Nice bar, too. One of the best perks about Bello's is the free parking in a garage next door."

"Bello is one of those places that is consistent. When you order a dish, it's the same every time. You can count on it.
John, the manager us always very accommodating and the waiters are attentive.
Our friends are always happy there, and the free parking is a real plus.

"This is an old school, traditional, upper west side, restaurant that my grandma would have loved. You won't get any surprises here except maybe how it has a loyal following of locals when it seems to be aimed at tourists. The food is fine (croquettes are actually cheese sticks, mussels spicy and tasty, chicken kind of rubbery), the wine list has one of everything you'd expect, the service is friendly if a little overwhelmed. And it's quiet enough for a conversation."

"Located on Ninth Avenue near 56th street, "Bello" is conveniently situated for pre-theater and pre-concert dining. The room is comfortable if somewhat noisy when filled. Service was adequate, rather nonchalant; I felt that we were just another table. By-the glass selection of white wines is slender: just a choice of Chardonnay or Pinot grigio. I tend to like rich food, but I found the main dishes here too heavy (half of my companions agreed). The tiramisu and creme caramel were bland."

"Bello restaurant is a treasure. It has a very comfortable atmosphere and is a relaxing place to spend a quiet leisurely dinner. Staff is attentive without being overbearing. Every entree we tried was delicious! We especially liked the avocado and tomato salad and the chicken parmesan. Desserts were tasty, too. Best tiramisu and cappuccino I've had in a long time. The flan was also very good. We hope to return soon next time we are in NYC for a show or other event."

"Can a great experience be repeated? At Bello it's a resounding YES! My 1st visit was a month ago w/ my family.Yesterday it was with my son(17) & 3 friends. The service again was spot on; my hand never needed to touch the wine bottle, the water glasses and bread were always full. It's the small things that you think go unnoticed, not here. Another thing about service., nothing is rushed. They don't clear dishes until everyone is finished. The food, don't let them know, but for NYC, they don't charge enough! Delicious flavor combinations, nothing overpowers anything else. The chef's specials are just that. I highly recommend ANY of his particular offerings. We had 4 of the specials & freely shared them around the table. ENJOY!"

"Service started off erratic and very disappointing. We were seated immediately and provided with bread, chips, and water, but more than 10 minutes went by before our waiter finally showed up and presented us with menus and took our drink orders. During this time, the dining area was not busy; waiters were constantly passing by our table as if we were invisible. I got the impression that they were too interested in taking care of regular customers. My wife and I were very close to getting up and walking out. That being said, once we ordered our selections, the service got much better and the appetizers and entrees were excellent. What could have been an overall excellent dining experience was marred substandard service at the start."

"We have eaten at Bello's many time. I must say that this time was disappointing. The food was just ordinary. I had a salmon special sauteed with dijon mustard. It was actually not as good as the one I make at home... just ordinary. My husband had the ravioli special -- also just ordinary.
The mushroom soup was outstanding as always and much more of the caliber we are used to. This meal I could have had at my local pizza joint for a lot less money."

"Loved the atmosphere and the food was decent. However, the waiter seemed very disinterested in us. He listed the specials for all of the tables around us, but not to us. He asked us if we would like some wine right when we sat down, but did not offer a wine menu. I believe he only actually stoppped by our table to ask if we wanted wine, to take our order, and to deliver our check. We would have likely ordered more, but since he wasn't interested in our business, we decided to do wine, dessert and espresso someplace else. I'm sure if we'd had a more attentive server, the experience would have been great. At the very least, he did his job, but nothing more."
