"Over the past few years we've taken out of town guests from all over (NYC, Austin, Sydney, San Diego, LA, DC) and the feedback has been unanimous = Arami is off the charts. Staff is awesome (extremely knowledgeable, fun, not pretentious), food is mind blowing and the menu is extensive enough to sustain addicts."

"My brother was in town visiting so I decided to try Arami as I'd heard good things. He had been to Japan a few times and I was curious if he was going to think the sushi at Arami was up to snuff. We all loved it! Tried some new things I have never seen anywhere else before and I'm looking forward to going back."

"The staff at Arami are the most wonderful people in the restaurant business. The food is outstanding, always prepared and delivered with care. Every bite is a feast. We keep going back-- can't seem to get tired of it."

"The uni shooter was good. I wouldn't recommend the Aviation cocktail, and the nigiri we had was just okay. The server - however pleasant - was inattentive; early on, she neglected to bring soy sauce and had one dish brought to me while my friend was left to wait. After the check was dropped, it was some time before she came back to the table to collect the payment that was ready for a while. Things like that... Had the server been more aware, we could've and likely would've eaten more and more quickly - but, left unattended, the pangs of hunger dissipated.
I'd eat there again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to. Arami is nothing to rave about."

"It was our first visit to Arami, and now I'm kicking myself for not going there sooner. The food was fantastic and the service was upbeat and very friendly. It was clear that the staff like working together and it was nice to see how they supported each other with service. All in all great vibe.
We were also very grateful that Arami has a gluten-free menu which made it easy for us to know exactly what dishes were appropriate for our dietary restrictions.
Killer sake list too, and we loved the special house sake that Arami has brewed especially for them in Japan.
We plan to come back again and again."

"Service was a little slow, but I was catching up with a family member, so I didn't mind so much. Had I been in a hurry, it would have been annoying. Every item I've tried on the menu in multiple visits to Arami has been delicious. Don't miss the uni shooters."

"My expectations were extremely high, because of all the great reviews. I honestly did not enjoy the food. And thought it was very expensive. Kinda disappointed."

"Restaurant was very busy, but we had a reservation. But they sat people in the order they came in, so our reservation didn't matter. After waiting for 10 minutes for our table, it was 15 minutes before anyone took our drink order. Then 15 more minutes before they took our food order, so it was about an hour after arriving before we received any food. The food was very good. The mussels were generously portioned, fresh, and tasty. Sushi rolls were good but pricy. The restaurant has nice atmosphere but a bit noisy and tables close together. We had different sake drinks and all were flavorful. I would recommend arami for friends, rather than romantic date. However it is a bit pricy."

"located in a sketchy area and completely over rated. Very expensive bland and otherwise unremarkable food. service took forever even though it was not crowded. not typical Japanese food according to my friend visiting from Japan. the maki was typical, but other than rolls and sushi, the rest was an attempt to put some new twist on classics. will not be going back."

"Delicious as always! Toro tartar bites and secret hamachi are must haves. The tofu robata was also very good and a much different flavor than expected. Highly recommend!"

"Superb sake menu and their fish blew me away. All their maki were above average, as well, and our server made many excellent recommendations and had useful insights on what the restaurant had to offer. The one thing that really bothered me was the loud techno music--it doesn't add anything to the dining experience and really I think it detracts quite a bit. It doesn't have to be so noisy that you can't hear the people across from you or your server explaining the menu."

"I can't decide whether I really liked it or it was just OK. The dishes seemed uneven to me. They were out of Uni, so that eliminated two of the dishes I would have selected. The beef dish was extremely bland and lukewarm. The fish had a decidedly fishier flavor than I am used to (and I have been to Japan several several times) and I didn't think the preparations warranted the higher prices. For the most part the dishes are small and not sharable and their standard order of sushi is a single piece for what I typically pay for two pieces. Thankfully we were not overly hungry as the bill was already $117 without any alcohol."

"This was the best sushi we've had since moving to the Midwest from San Francisco over a year ago. Not a huge list of rolls but the few they offer are inventive and delicious (king crab w/ maguro). Mostly we stuck with sashimi and were not disappointed. Everything was very fresh. We also enjoyed the maitake from the robata section of the menu. Simple but delicious! The arami ramen was good but I wished I had eaten more sushi instead of filling up with noodles. The atmosphere is very airy and spa-like. Service was attentive but not disruptive. We will be back!"

"Aramai is amazing! For me, I just found my favorite sushi to date in the Chicago area. One unique item was the maplewood smoked salmon... delicious! Even the "simple" rolls such as avocado came w/ a unique element such as toasted almonds. We tried 7 different rolls and there is not one we would not order again. The ramen noodles looked very tasty but we didn't have room for another bite. For dessert we had the fig, black sesame, chocolate chip ice cream. Amazingly unique and delicious!"

"I have written a stellar review in the past, but I felt I needed to write a follow up. The girl called me to confirm my reservation as they normally do, I had told her that we wanted to sit in the back. She was not very receptive to my request, she almost seemed annoyed. She was not rude in anyway, however she was not welcoming either. We arrived, the entire back area was empty.... we sat next to the fire place. Secondly, we had an early dinner, they were out of a number of items on the menu. Perhaps a delivery or supplier problem. I still enjoyed my dinner and will go back, but I hope they can make some adjustments with the staff."

"I'll definitely be back for the amazing sushi and fantastic combinations of flavors in their specials. The price was decent and service was friendly. The only problem was that the place was packed and the kitchen was slow in getting my food out: it took half an hour between ordering and eating."

"The quality and taste of the food matched that of my favorite sushi restaurant in Chicago, however the price was higher and ambiance was much better. Our server made some great suggestions and even ordered a second round of one of her suggestions because we loved it so much. Also, the specialty sushi items were unlike any other sushi options that I've ever had. Overall, this was a great restaurant and one of the best experiences I've had a Japanese restaurant. I would definitely go again for a special occasion and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves good sushi."

"Serious sushi. The quality, authenticity, beauty of presentation and flavors are all amazing. Not your typical sushi joint, I take my out of towners here (NYC and LA guests included). Price is very reasonable too. It's my #1 sushi pick."

"This place was amazing. We tried the nontraditional sushi items, notably the needlenose special. The needlenose special included the whole fish with the fillet sashimi with the house soy sauce. Pure delight. We also tried the uni shooter, quite interesting yet tasty. Definitely a place that may put some newbies to sushi out of their comfort zone, but you leave satisfied."

"Our reservation was for 2 at 8pm on a Saturday. We were seated in the back room and our server was Lisa. All of Lisa's suggestions were delicious, from sake to sushi. She was knowledgable about the different sake's and was able to suggest exactly what what we were looking for from our likes and dislikes. I'm not an expert on sushi but I can tell you I have had sushi other places and I would say they were all good but Arami's sushi deffinetly sticks out as one of the best I have ever had. We asked for some that we thought we would like and then asked Lisa for recommendations. All were delicious. I don't usually eat desert but Lisa described one that sounded delicious. I wish i could remember the name of it but it was awesome!"
