Chef Whittaker’s vision features dishes that are unpretentious and innovatively prepared using products sourced from local and organic farmers, fishers and producers whenever possible. These combine for a menu featuring snacks such as “crackling & popcorn”; a variety of creative “boards” and “irons” to share; tasty “plates” to nosh on together or enjoy solo as a main; and desserts for a sweet (and a bit savoury) finish.
"If you're like me and you have a hard time deciding what to order, Forage is perfect for you. All their dishes are made to share which allows for a wonderfully social dining experience. The atmosphere was a very clean and modern spin on an earthy rustic feel. From the wood furniture, the moss "candles", and even the little stone placed on the cheque at the end of the night, you will definitely get the natural connection to their principle of local, sustainable food. However, I felt the "Top 40" music took away from the atmosphere. The service from our waiter was fabulous, but the other woman who brought some of our dishes over was too quiet and spoke too fast for us to hear the explaination of their unique creations.
Check Forage out!"

"A little underwhelming for all the good things I've been hearing about this place. Portions were small and under seasoned. Service was friendly but a little scattered; never got our waters, saw servers running at some point (never run in FOH!). Room is bright and updated which makes for a nice atmosphere."

"My Turkey Sausage Hash with root vegetables was delicious! My brother's Benny was decent but a little small. My Mother had the Pumpkin Brioche French Toast which was just ok. We thought the broiche was actually pumpkin but it wasn't, not that we could taste anyway.. there was merely a smear of pumpkin puree on the plate. It was still yummy but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall the experience was great. Service was good, staff were friendly and the food was tasty. We will be back!"

"I went to forage for Mother's Day Brunch, and while the food was very good, I could tell that it was much busier than they were used to, and as such, the service suffered a little. We had to wait a bit to be seated and a few more minutes to be greeted by our server. The food was delivered very quickly, but we had to ask at the bar for salt and pepper and jam for toast as our server wasn't visible. But seriously, the food was really good! I loved the artisan feel and the emphasis on local ingredients. I would definitely come back on a day that isn't a holiday-type event."

"I was impressed and inspired ( and comfortably full! ) after dining at the Forage for dinner with friends the other evening. We were welcomed and accommodated even though we were over an hour early for our reservations. The concept of sharing provided the opportunity to try unique dishes and the belief in sustainability and local ingredients align with my beliefs. I appreciated the beverage options and felt good about the 100% charitable donation of the filtered water served. Lastly, the service was outstanding! Forage is my new favourite restaurant!"

"Teh restaurant was full at 7pm on a Saturday night and noisy but not in a bad way. The food was great--we shared a large number of items between the 4 of us (various "bowls" and "boards" and "plates"). Not as expensive as we thought it would be but, that being said, portions were small and some items were downright tiny. Nonetheless we weren't disappointed with anything we ordered as far as taste or presentation are concerned. Best gnocci I've ever had. Service was good, if a bit omnipresent. We would certainly go back."

"I visited forage for the first time recently for brunch. Service was very attentive and it is rare a server has an excellent sense of humor. The brunch menu is quite impressive. I believe everything is made from scratch. We were about 15-20 minutes late for our reservation - this was a non-issue! Overall, I highly recommend this place, delicious food and fantastic service."

"The food was really great. Not sure what to expect but it was beyond expectations. the focus on local bar list, wine list, and food was wonderful and innovative. The only downside is that it is small with TV screens. you cannot avoid them, no matter where you sit, so someone is going to be distracted from the table conversation by the TV. It is not my preference to have a fabulous meal, great wine, wonderful companionship, a healthy substantial bill at the end, while watching television. I can go to a sports bar at much less cost, or stay home and eat in front of the TV."

"Went for Sunday brunch. I had a classic eggs/sausage breakfast which was good but the coffee and jam were amazing.
The hostess seemed irritated and grumpy which made us laugh. A stern critic might fault this. The waiters are very attentive and have good attention to detail. They're personable. They aren't just kids with a summer job, but grown men who take pride in the menu and their jobs.
I'll be back, absolutely."

"We went on a busy Friday night and things were fine. We had heard excellent reviews from friends so my expectations may have been a little high. Was good, nothing exceptional though. Tapas style dining, we had 5 nice dishes and one of the higher end bottles of wine (wine was reasonably priced, not many bottles over $65) and spent $170 (2 people w/tip).
The Charcuterie w/ chicken liver pate was above average. Crab cake was standard issue. Smoked tuna was quite "fishy". Caracklins & popcorn was interesting and enjoyable. The carrot cake was nice but a bit heavy.
Worth a try, I'd likely go back because the value is good but I didn't think there was anything too unique. Similar in all aspects to Fable on 4th but for me was not quite as g"

"My Husband and I come to Vancouver pretty much once a month. We both love this restaurant and have come there with clients, friends, kids, and now family. I recently came to Vancouver with my sister in laws and mother in law to celebrate her 70th birthday. I really wanted to bring the family to our "favourite" restaurant. It was amazing and the ladies are still talking about the dinner experience. Thank you so much for the awesome food, service and consistency."

"I have no complaints about the quality of the food at Forage. Every dish that me and my friends tried was tasty. There were five of us and we went there for dinner last week. We decided to sample a variety of dishes and share them. The only issue was the portion size. We all agreed that there wasn't enough of each dish. In particular, the cheese platter was unusually small. We left hungry and had to go elsewhere to have more food in order to feel full."

"Our group of four decided to share plates - kale chips and apple crisps, cracklings and popcorn, beets with candied hazelnut praline, goat cheese and cress, finishing with a cheese plate with honey and stewed fruits for dessert. Yum! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable; she brought gluten free bread, answered our many questions. She was extremely well informed about the sustainability of the building and cooking methods as well. It was a delightful evening and we will definitely be back."

"Went to Forage for brunch with a few lady friends... the decor is beautiful, the service was warm and friendly without being overbearing. Our coffees were topped up regularly and the food was great. I had the chowder, which was delicious and filling, and all the other dishes looked amazing, from the benny to the pancakes; the homemade jams were interesting and delightful. I thought the prices were totally reasonable for Vancouver, especially as the focus is on local, sustainable food. I will be back for sure and would highly recommend this restaurant for those who want a taste of what BC has to offer in a beautiful setting."

"Over all I would say it was just average. While the food was nicely presented, and the flavors were good...They were no stand out dishes that I would return to eat exclusively. Portions are VERY small for the pricing (ie: Crab cake). Also seemed to be a shortage of Veggi based dishes...odd given the the name of the restaurant.
Service was pleasent and knowledgeable. Nice wine list...short cocktail list."

"Wow, I had a really nice meal here. It was not anticipated The menu is quite interesting and the care and detail of each plate is obvious from each presentation. While everyone does a pork belly these days - very few folks do it well, and the Forage Belly is super! Fermented beverage selection is good and local - but I wished for some greater variety. Overall, for a fun, relaxing, creative, and down to earth meal - give Forage a shot. The breakfast menu looks great - I shall return soon."

"Simply the best restaurant I've been to this year. The service was tremendous. The manager made us aware right away they were filming there that night and if we had any issues being on camera to not hesitate to advise them right away. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was original and tasty. We ordered several dishes and each were unique to any other restaurants out there. The bone marrow, ravioli and apple pie were our favourites. Ambiance was great with a diverse mix of patrons from families to couples and even single diners at the bar. The place was lively but not loud enough where you can't have a proper conversation. We will definitely be back and can't wait to go to Forage with more people!"

"Had another brunch at forage. This is now one of our favorites for dinner and brunch. Service is impeccable - and the food does not disappoint. Best blueberry pancakes ever had - and have tried them everywhere, from pancake houses to 5-star hotels. This is the best you'll find - and served with honey butter. Anytime we are in Vancouver for a weekend morning, this is now our go to place for brunch. Last time we stayed overnight, had dinner as well, and were not disappointed by anything. One thing to note, as they do only serve items that are made locally, if you want a Rusty Nail, you're out of luck until someone makes a local version of Drambuie. But the suggested locally distilled scotch was a surprisingly pleasant alternative."

"Their seafood chowder was awesome. It had won a local seafood chowder contest, that was held at the Vancouver Aquarium, against 9 other restaurants such as Coast. The perogies were delicious. Next time I'll try the tuna as it was also recommended but my friend & I weren't that hungry at night."

"The menu requires too much explanation by staff. It is Not necessary and takes up the servers time, spoils the conversation and is too confusing. The food is wonderful but please simplify the description. Give it one name and then a list of "taste" treats.
The staff are charming and welcoming but need to dress more smartly. More urbane. I.e have them where clean black aprons or something to finish their own clothes. Shirts and blouses shold be ironed and crisp.
Smarten up mgmt. you are going to lose out if you dont. A good new place that can do better. Unprofessional front end at the moment.
Thx. We will be back to see if changes have been made."

"We were really excited to dine at Forage - based on the concept of the restaurant. However, no one fully explained the distinctive elements to us. What Forage really means? How is the menu influenced? The dishes were all over-cooked, and I would say that the Dungeness Crab Cake was practically burnt. The one dish that stood out was the Spot-Prawn, Nettle Risotto, which had a very good flavour and texture profile. We ended up sending one dish back - because in addition to the presentation being poor and unappetizing, the amount of roast bison bone marrow served was not appropriate for the cost - it ended up being less than a teaspoon, once removed from the bone. All in all we were disappointed, despite the current attention and accolades."
