"Liked the feel of the room - it was cozy but open. Nice colour palette in the decor. Service was friendly. Chef's tuna special was delicious as was the grilled chicken salad. Enjoyed the fresh lemonade. I'd love to visit and sit on the patio when the weather is warmer."

"Did not expect what we experienced. Prices are amazingly modest. Food portions are perfect. For $15 you receive a 3 course lunch which will stuff you. Great fresh squeezed lemonade. Food quality is very high.We ordered beef and chicken burgers, came out to order. Cream of mushroom soup was great, my girlfriend who isn't fond of mushrooms even said the flavor was great.

A definite recommendation."

"We went for Valentine's Day and had a great time. The food was excellent, one of the best steaks I've had in quite a while. Staff was friendly and prices were reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. Nice place to have dinner in the Gaslamp. Restaurant was upper echelon but not pretentious."

"I do have to say the service was phenomenal! I booked through opentable and when it asked about special information for the maitre d, I noted it was my boyfriend's birthday. Our server, the manager, and several passing waiters wished him happy birthday throughout the night, and we actually realized (after sitting at the table for some time) that they had placed a card there with a handwritten note, wishing him happy birthday! It's service like that which will definitely bring me back to jsix again. Awesome job!"

"Always a treat. Chef Graves' innovations provide a pleasant surprise. Each time we have visited JSix the menu offered new treats. The beet salad was superb and none of us had ever experienced blood orange hollandaise. The bacon wrapped hen was incredible. Bravo!"

"We went out for a pre-Valentine's Day dinner and had a great experience. I was a bit sceptical at first about the fact that the restaurant is associated with the hotel but that turned out to be not an issue. The food was all excellent, local and organic. The service was very good. Nice selection of crusty bread and tapenade, excellent tuna tartar, creamy mushroom soup, pumpkin ravioli, baby back ribs and petit steak. All was very tasty. A nice bottle of pinot from a well sized wine list and the lava cake complemented it well. I like the fact that they have small sized portions of several dishes."

"Very nice. The drink ---something "desire" was outstanding. The bread and olive tapenade were fresh and artisanal. My husband had the filet and it was amazing. All of the flavors popped when you took a bite of that tender meat and the wine reduction. The pear and nut salad was very fresh-the poached pear added some sweetness. Everything was explained and when served was beautifully presented.
Cozy ambience and excellent service. Loved that everything is locally grown. We would go back again."

"We were sooo disappointed. This was a restaurant that I had really been looking forward to trying. The reviews that I read had all described a creative menu based on what was available locally. Apparently that is not the case for lunch where they offer a very basic burger, sandwich and salad menu. The food was o.k. For lack of any menu item that was inspiring my husband and I ordered burgers. Seriously, there were like 6 lunch choices. It was a wasted effort to go all the way downtown for such a mundane meal. And the service...we had to ask twice for condiments, drinks, and coffee. I thought that the location, decoration and layout were all lovely."

"We had an exceptional meal. We chose the Chef's Mercy option (five courses) with wine pairing. The combination of flavors and fresh ingredients worked perfectly in all the dishes. Innovative and delicious, from the citrus salad served with beets, to seared ahi, grilled scallops, and an extraordinarily tender and tasty ribeye steak.The food was so satisfying that it would definitely be OK to serve smaller portions.We were pretty full! Great value, and although the wines tended to be young they were a good choice with the dishes
Very attentive friendly service without feeling obtrusive.
We had a booth near the kitchen/service area which was a lot of fun and quite private. The main dining area is not so much to our taste."

"We met some out of town friends on a Monday night and Jsix delivered a very nice evening. The Monday night crowd was slim but the room is comfortable and service was very good. The wine list is decent and offered some good picks in the $40-50 range. The menu touts local, fresh ingredients. Starters were fresh and pleasing, the ahi was outstanding as was the raw platter (a collection of raw seafood). Entrees were nicely proportioned and very good. Overall, it was a good and comfortable dinner, but not in the great category."

"When we entered, the greeting was less than friendly, and when we left, not a soul in sight. The waiter was not very friendly, seated us hidden in the back of an empty restaurant. The food was good to fair - overly ambitious and a little overworked (too many ingredients).

The decor and menu looked promising, but the service and food left us disappointed."

"Absolutely amazing food. Every bite was delicious. Highly recommend the organic greens salad with the roasted pear, the scallops and the "love nuggets".
The only complaint I have is that the lights were a little bright. They could turn them down a bit to improve the ambiance.
Will definitely return!!"

"I've heard a bit about JSix and opted to give it a go for Restaurant Week this January. Reading some reviews on Yelp had me set for disappointment but how quick was I to judge? We opted the restaurant week menu . I had the Short Ribs, salad and Meyer Lemon Creme Brulee. My fiance had the Butternut Squash and Pear soup, Seared Tuna and the root beer float. Heaveanly. All of it, especially the soup (with the balsamic floating on top-very nice taste). My only issue (not really an issue, just a thought) was that the spinach for the short ribs should not have been placed on top of the yukon mashed potatoes and under the meat. Made it soggy and really tasteless. Other than that, completely wonderful from decor and service to meal itself."

"The service was outstanding! The pricing, service, portions, and ambiance were perfect. The food was just eh (and I love food). I had the butternut squash soup which was delicious but the butternut squash ravioli was weird. The texture and presentation of the pasta looked and felt like squid and although it had a lot of great different flavors, the sizing of the garlic and fruit seemed wrong, sorry. Nonetheless, it was a great experience with my friends and I think it would be a good place for a date. Oh and the olive tapenade had a pit in it that I crunched down on and luckily did not break a tooth. I would definitely recommend it and go again, though."

"A friend of mine from out of town was staying at the hotel where the Jsix is located, and we saw the restaurant week menu, and it looked very enticing. From the moment we arrived, the hostess helped us find the perfect table, and our waiter was very pleasant and made sure our dining experience was a very pleasant one. He even brought out 3 wine tasters for us to select from which helped us make the perfect decision. Each course was excellent - especially the duck cooked three ways! Both my friend and I enjoyed it immensely. The desert was a special chocolate which name escapes me, but it was phenomenal and a great way to end what was an incredible dinner. I would recommend this restaurant to all the foodies out there!"

"Our party of 4 tried JSix during Restaurant Week. We ordered the wine paring w/our 3-course meals. Of the 4 starters offered, the Wild Mushroom Pasta was the best; it was delicious due to the truffle essence. The Roasted Winter Squash and Pear Soup and Brandt Beef Tartar were ok, but not as flavorful. Our group ordered Vegetarian Butternut Squash Raviolis and the Brandt Beef Red Wine Braised “Love Nuggets”. The raviolis were tasty and were served like crepes with butternut squash filling. The braised short ribs were excellent and more hearty than the raviolis. Unfortunately, the paired wine seemed "forgotten", so we had to ask the manager for our wines. Liked the casual and cozy atmosphere."

"Food was good. I especially like the bread dip. The appetizer (Ahi Tuna) is a bit pricey. We ordered two main courses (Octopus and Lobster Pasta and Red Wine Braised Short Rib), and both tastes and look wonderful. Although the Short Rib wasn't my partner's first choice, as her first/second choice ran out (by 8pm?).

I also like our semi private semi-circle shaped booth. Gave us good view and privacy at the same time. Overall, service was good. We found out later that there's a nice lounge/bar on the roof. Was hoping that the waitress would mention that to us, so we would have a drink there afterwards. Would recommend to others who want a quiet romantic dinner, or on special occasion."

"I recently had an intimate gathering with five friends at Jsix. Ambience was nice, very quiet. Not many people in the restaurant at all..that's why it was a little upsetting when we received poor service. Our waiter never introduced himself, so we didn't know his name, once we got our food, and were finished eating, we waited for atleast 15 minutes before our plates were cleared. We asked for dessert menus, quickly decided what we wanted and waited another 20 minutes for him to return to take our orders. We decided against it because of the wait, and quickly asked for the bill. Good food, but the service definitely should have been better, when our party was 1 of 6 parties in the restaurant."

"J6 is in a league all it's own. Their culinary philosophy and skill surpasses any other restaurant I've been too. The servers are fun, knowledgeable, incredibly good at what they do, but are down to Earth at the same time. They make you feel as you're the only person that matters, without over selling the experience. You must order the Chef's Mercy, a 5 course meal tailored around you. The best thing is, with 5 mystery courses, you get some things you are in the mood for and get a few things you may have not ordered otherwise, thereby expanding your palette. 5 star food experience without the hoity toity uncomfort. While San Diego has many great places to eat, you would truly be remiss to not experience J6."

"Went on rainy Friday night/wasnt too busy. Staff seems bored. Took 15 minutes for Server to acknowledge us after being seated. Drinks were ordered (two Classic Belvederes...simple vodka martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives). After 18 minutes of no drinks, I went to bar to order them myself. Server@ bar, stuffing Bleu Cheese into olives herself...stated that is why our drinks were delayed. Wow...how do you place a "specialty drink" on ur menu and then not even be prepared for someone to order it? And since when should the BARTENDER/BACK not be doing that grunt work? Birthday mention in RSVP received no recognition. :/ Bad start to service, but food was delish. Great food. Cool atmosphere. Open kitchen concept."

"This restaurant has wonderful food, however you can't carry on a reasonable conversation with your table mates because of blairing sound and noise from the bar. Part of this is caused by the hard floors, ceilings and walls, but the music is controlable. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but she would disappear for 10 to 15 minute intervals for God only knows what for. Finally the Pre Fixe dinner is a bargain, but don't, I repeat don't add anything onto the bill. $11 Martini's and $4 coffees are a little off the chart here at this venue given the current state of the economy. My wife couldn't believe the amount of the final check when it came. Finally super secret; come at lunch where the prices and the sound level are lower."

"This bright but relaxing feeling of this place, great for the business meeting I had set up. I found it via internet and was not disappointed. I definitely would return to try more dishes and bring friends. The garlic fries sounded good so we ordered them & it was quite a big portion & they were quite good. The "Chef's Menu" was well priced and food was delicious. We had a great mixed salad along with the slow roasted corn ravioli's which I was hesitant about but not disappointed, at first thought the portion was a bit small but it turned out to be perfect, finished with a capuccino & Valrhona Chocolate Semi Freddo was absolutely scrumptious. Service was great. Can't wait to go again and the location was perfect and easy to find."

"My husband and me went to JSIX for brunch. Oh my....what a wonderful treat. I had the Eggs "Bennies" that were served meatless with tomato and avacado with a wonderful light holindaise sauce. My husband had the lemon french toast made with an amazing zesty homemade lemon curd. The restaurant offered house aged dried meat and homemade bread and pastries.
