LOUISIANA FRESH CUISINE ... CREOLE-INSPIRED!
Once the basement of a lavish sugar cane plantation home, the Mansion Restaurant at Nottoway was brought to life with the multi-million dollar renovation of the entire property completed in 2009. The bar’s unique shape follows the curve of the coachman’s niche, where the original depression glass windows are still intact. The main dining room leads out to the glass rotunda, where a breathtaking view of century-old live oak trees fill the signature landscape of the 30 acre property. In this historic setting, diners are intrigued by our Southern cuisine, prepared with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, plus fresh herbs from the chefs’ own garden. Entrees include Crab & Brie Bisque, Grouper Louisiana, Blackened Redfish, St. Louis Ribs, Shrimp & Grits, and the Cowboy Ribeye.
"The food was excellent. Very fresh ingredients. The green onion and sugarcane butters were unique and delicious. We shared the berries anglaise for dessert which was excellent."

"Enjoyed doing the tour then eating there in the house. Only issue was the slow service. At bar we were the only guests and it took like 10mins to get drinks. Then the staff meeting at end of bar made us uncomfortable. Got bread and water right away at table but sat there for like 15mins with no drinks, that's when I got up and got my own wine list. Then our server came & asked how everything was so far,I was like"the bread and water is lovely but a drink would be nice" we were the ONLY table inside the restaurant, 2 others on the patio.I had to ask twice for music to be turned on bc all I could hear was the staff joking and talking. All was good after we got our bottle of wine & music. The grouper and BI ribeye was good and prices are great!"

"This was a delightful restaurant - especially when seated on the porch with lovely views of the grounds. The shrimp and grits was absolutely the best I've ever eaten. The crab pasta was ok but just wasn't as good as the shrimp and grits."

"Absolutely lovely Sunday Brunch. Food delicious! The Fried Green Tomatoes to die for; the Crabcake Benedict perfect, and cheesecake yummy! Generous portions, enjoyed my "doggy box" later. Atmosphere/environment makes one feel transported back in time, yet able to revel in modern day conviences! We are so lucky to have two such incredible historical gems in such close proximity; St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plaquemine, and Nottaway a few miles down the river!"

"The setting, the accommodations, and the food was fantastic. The Chef deserves kudos for the amazing dinner we had at the restaurant in the Main house. I had dinner at the world famous Commanders palace two days later and have to say it was as good if not better."

"This was our second trip to The Mansion. Unfortunately the first experience was unlike the most recent one. Our first visit in October provided one of the best meals I have ever eaten! EVERYTHING was fantastic! The dinner we had last weekend (4-20-13) was mediocre. I will confess however that the Brie and Crab Bisque was fabulous but other items were less impressive! The most disappointing part of the dining experience was the service. We had to request our waitress on several occasions! Not likely that we will return."

"Despite all the bragging about a new chef this place had very bad food on a Sunday night. The specials were fish/seafood and completely overcooked, which resulted in a dry/rubbery mess. The grits was completely tasteless, which is ridiculous considering that we were in Louisiana out of all places! Service was quite bad, barely able to get our water glasses refilled and everything took forever even is the restaurant was maybe 30% full and there were 3 people just hanging out at the hostess check-in desk. Cocktails were quite bad too. A shame really since it is a place with character and people pretty much have to eat there once they are on the plantation."

"Really enjoyed our visit and over night stay. Wasn't pleased with our dinner server, she would leave for long periods of time, seemed like she didn't want to be there. She was even slow on drink refills. Didn't get our food order correct and when we told her, she did nothing.. And we were only a party of two. But, we did enjoy our visit, the food and everyone else was friendly and very helpful."

"We were celebrating an anniversary, so we traveled from New Orleans to stay on the property. We brought a special wine (in our anniversary year) to the restaurant and they treated us with special care, charged only a modest corkage for our wine and provided an overall excellent dining experience. The entire staff, from the bar tender to servers and bus people, were delightful. The food was creative and comparable to some of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans."

"This was our second Easter Lunch at Nottoway . Our first was 2years ago . This year my wife and I found the menu was very limited . There was no seafood on the menu and just a couple of vegetable dishes . Desert was very good especially the bread pudding . Service was very good . I would go back but would have to review the menu before hand ."

"DISAPPOINTED is an understatement. With all the wonderful local places to choose from, we chose Nottoway and we were extremely disappointed. It took forever for the waitress to show up to our table and when she finally did, getting service was like pulling teeth. If you order coffee, be sure to ask for cream and sugar because you won't get it and when you finally do, your coffee will be cold. The buffet lacked. There wasn't even a salad! A few cut up fruits, jambalaya that tasted like a box, green beans, grits, oh my! Oh and did I mention rabbit gumbo on Easter! My poor son thought we were eating the Easter Bunny! lol and a hefty price of $35 per plate I would not recommend this place for dining! Total rip off!"

"This was our 1st time at Nottoway as we were on travel from DC for Spring Break. The grounds and mansion were fabulous. Could have sat outside and enjoyed a picnic which would have been better than dining onsite. Our server was TERRIBLE. She came to our table, stated that the special was tile fish and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered a very nice bottle of the Caymus wine which she almost ruined trying to open. My husband had to take the bottle away from her to open it himself. When we inquired about the special, we were told again that it was tile fish. When inquiring about another item on the menu, she took the menu from us an read us the description - no further info. Food was not very good and service worse."

"Service was absolutely atrocious, taking 3 hrs to eat. Empty dishes weren't removed from the table, waiter would vanish for 30 minutes at a time, food was actually good until a miniscule black drum filet was brought out for my "Blackened Redfish" entree. I would suggest the manager take his staff to Commander's Palace to see how a real restaurant serves its patrons."

"I so wanted to love this restaurant located on the ground floor of a magnificently restored antebellum plantation house. However, issues of service spoiled the experience. First, we had asked to sit outside (the interior is dark) and asked for a specific table. We were told the table we asked for was reserved and were given a table by the service entrance. However, the hostess, who was completely cold and dismissive, proceeded to seat other persons from the same tour we were on at those tables, notwithstanding that those persons had not reserved (we knew that since we had suggested to them to do lunch at the restaurant). The table that close tot he service door deprived the luncheon of a lot of the charm. Service issues continued."

"Great service in a great setting and atmosphere. The food was very good but not great(I'm a picky New Orleanian-probably awesome for someone from outside South Louisiana). Overall a very enjoyable experience. Nottoway is an altogether great experience and the Mansion Restaurant is a good part of it."

"Service was friendly and willing but untrained and inexperienced. Not up to expectations for a restaurant in this price range. The first bottle of wine we choose was not available and the bottle of champagne ordered arrived warm. They did try to chill it whuch is why it took awhile to arrive. Rissotto appetizer was okay. My husband's dish was the Grouper with mashed potatoes. Fish was okay, potatoes looked and tasted like school cafeteria fare. I ordered the Redfish blackened. The flavor was okay but the fish was so rubbery it was basically inedible. The sides were decent. We had no desire to stick around for dessert. We were there in a Sunday night. Maybe the experience is better on busier nights?"

"We had a great time, Caitlyn took great care of us, food was great, wine also, (although my headache said I should have enjoyed a little less of the wine list), will definitely be going back and recommending to friends. We are locals, and are pleased we found it...have been for brunch and lunch, (although I had the dinner filet at lunch, and it was perfectly cooked and delicious). Great"

"Food was mostly good, but not excellent. For an appetizer I ordered the fried eggplant with crawfish sauce, it was absolutely delicious. For my main course I ordered the veal with spaetzle, it came with crab topping, bernaise sauce, and asparagus. The bernaise was horrible, the spaetzle was bland, and the 4 asparagus were tiny. The veal and crab were good. Hubby's porterhouse and gumbo were good as well. Service was also horrible, the waitress recommended a white wine which turned out to be a $21 dessert wine in the tiniest wine glass I have ever seen. We were served our appetizers and were halfway through before we even received our drinks. We heard another waitress tell the table next to us about a special that we weren't offered."

"The food, the service and the setting were all outstanding. We have visited many fine dining restuarants and the food here was as good as any we have had. We started with the Crab and Brie Bisque which made you want to lick the bowl. For entrees we had the Crab Cake & Shrimp and Grits. The crab cake was full of crabmeat and was not overseasoned like many I have eaten. The Lemon Beurre Blanc was an excellent added layer of flavor. The Shrimp and Grits also had andouille sausage. The smokieness of the sausgae added to the dish rather than overpowering it and the grits were very creamy. Don't skip dessert! We had a hard time choosing but decided on the Bananas Foster Cheesecake and the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie - both excellent! ENJOY!"

"As a new 'local' accompanied by a friend from 'back home' (Chicago), we were looking for some local flavor. We saw Nottoway advertised in a 'What to See' brochure and so reserved a lunch date there. We didn't know what to expect, but were very pleased with the tour, the scenery and the wonderful cuisine. I highly recommend this locale to learn some local history, dine on Cajun dishes and experience the flavor of Southern Louisiana."

"The staff, from the lovely woman who checked us in to the wait staff in the beautiful restaurant, was well trained, professional and friendly. Food was just great. Room was pretty and quiet. Probably the best place for an elegant wedding I've ever been but also just perfect for a weekend getaway. Recommend it highly. Close to New Orleans and Baton Rouge."

"Although delicious, the food was a little pricey given the size of the portions. For example, my fiance and I had bread to start, shared 2 appetizers, each had a salad, and each had a main course with no to-go boxes needed!! If I had that at any other restaurant, I would have DEFINITELY needed a to-go box for at least half of my main course. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to celebrate a very special occasion, or to someone who does not mind paying a bit more for less, but delicious, food."

"We dined at The Mansion Restaurant for lunch on Valentine's Day. We were a party of six and the food was delicious. Special recommendations for the strawberry spinach salad, chicken and sausage gumbo and seared blue crab cakes. My entire party enjoyed their meal and walking around the plantation. Please be advised that they will automatically add a 20% tip to your bill for parties of 6 or more."

"Beautiful place, great place to take a family or could be very romantic! Food was very good and plenty of it. Service is the only area that could have been improved. Service was slow but we did have a party of eight. A three course brunch took over 2 1/2 hours. Too much time for it to get started. Overall though we would definitely go back."

"My husband and I ate at your restaurant on three separate occasions during our weekend at your beautiful plantation. We ate breakfast twice and once for dinner. The food was amazing, the service was exempliary, and the view from our table was wonderful. We will definitely make a point of returning next time we are visiting your area. "The food and service was excellent. My wife had the "unblackened" redfish (can't eat any spicey food and is gluten free) and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The wine/butter sauce that they put on the side was a great compliment to the redfish. Potatoes and veggies were good also.I had the shrimp and grits which were in an andouille sausage cream sauce (i.e. not BBQ style) was also outstanding. Large shrimp was cooked perfectly, just done and the grits were creamy and flavorful. To top it all off, these could have been priced at dinner prices but were less than $17 per plate each (10% off with tour). Great find if you're in the Baton Rouge area."
