Sapphire Grill
One of the city's most consistently stylish restaurants evokes a low-key, counterculture bistro, but its cuisine is grander and more cutting-edge than its industrial-looking decor and its level of hipness would imply. Wrapped in warm brick and cool steel, the Sapphire Grill has steeped itself in a history of fine culinary tradition. Christopher Nason is the owner and the most talked about chef of the moment in Savannah, preparing what he defines as a "coastal cuisine" based on seafood hauled in on the day of its preparation from nearby waters. From seasonal chanterelles and oregon black truffles, to the most tender cuts of meat and delicate seafood, Chef Nason and his team work feverishly to keep Sapphire at the mark expected of her.

"After a long day sitting in the sun for a child's graduation my wife and I treated ourselves to dinner out at Sapphire Grill. While chatting with our server we laughed about ordering wine labeled "Educated Guess" in honor of our son. When we declined dessert because we were full, she surprised us with two chocolate dipped strawberries on a plate with "Congratulations" scripted in chocolate. It was a very nice touch from a caring server who listened to their guest. We'll be back soon."

"Food was great. Service was excellent. Server knew the menu very well and made good recommendations. The raw tuna and the house special grouper were tasty. Loved the crab cakes and calamari ! to top it off we had the chocolate tort and the berry cobbler (fresh baked) with lemon gelato. Dinner with tip was $168.38 (no alcohol ) and worth it. great for special occasions!"

"We had been to Sapphire Grille on our last visit to Savannah. Our dinner was so good that time, we knew we had to go back. We had the Chef's Tasting Dinner. It was extraordinary. One course paired a roasted shallot gelato with a seared foie gras. Not anything I would think of, but it was "killer good". Every course was spot on. Not a miss. The service was very attentive. I would highly recommend a visit to the Sapphire Grille and indulging in the Chef's Tasting."

"We were very disapponted in our experience at Sapphire Grill. We were the first diners there with a reservation and were placed at a table by the door. We requested to be moved and the manager wasn't happy about it. We had a good waiter but the manager chastised him very loudly as he was describing a drink to us that was not available that evening. It was embarassing for him and very uncomfortable for us. That set a bad tone for the evening. Two diners were good. The New York strip was very tough and not a good flavor.
The manager never stopped by to see how our dinner was. No one thanked us and said good night as we went out the door. It was our last night on girl's holiday and not a fun note or memory."

"I went on Easter Sunday so it was really slow and quiet. I could imagine the space being a bit louder if full. The food and service were outstanding. "The experience at Sapphire Grill was an all-around positive experience. The food was outstanding; in fact, I consider the black grouper to have been the best fish I have ever eaten (and I come from a seafood background). The food was seasoned well and the presentation was quite impressive. All in our party agreed that this was one of the best meals we have had. Our waitress was friendly and engaging and provided excellent service. Next time I am in Savannah, I will try my best to return."

"Loved our experience there! Perfect atmosphere - not too loud, not too quiet - with cool vibe. We tried the calamari and while I'm not usually a fan, found it to be a quirky blend of flavors that I LOVED. Followed it with a zippy caesar salad and finished with the black grouper, which was slightly asian in flavor - delightful. To finish, we ordered the chef's selection for dessert; best peach cheesecake I've ever had.

"This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel. Not sure it lived up to the hype.
Everything was going so well until the bill came and our waiter's personality took a major turn for the worse when we asked for change back. He practically threw it on the table and stomped off. We generally tip 20 percent, but with his bad attitude it dropped to much less.
The food: enjoyed the Caesar salad with special croutons but my stuffed chicken breast with brie & chorizo was dry. My husband enjoyed the bouillabaisse, but the best part of the meal was the dessert - a cocoa infused creme caramel with a scotch cookie."

"We were on the second floor, which is much quieter than the first, and the food was excellent. But we were disappointed by very slow and terribly inattentive service. The waiter took our initial order, but never reappeared so we could order wine with our dinner. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or desert, but got a menu for desert after flagging him down and asking. After a long wait, the waiter brought our check and threw it on the table as he passed by. We left without coffee or desert. This is an expensive restaurant. The service should be better."

"Compared with our past visits to Sapphire Grill, this was a quiet evening. Maybe Thursday in Savannah is a time for some to rest up for the weekend. For whatever reason, the restaurant was quiet when we arrived but the activity and noise level picked up steadily without ever becoming too much. ("Vibrant bar scene" was less apt on this evening.) Reservations are always a good idea here. My crab cake appetizer with a glass of a lovely rose' that our waiter suggested as an accompaniment were highlights of a very good meal. This kitchen is still a standout."

We were asked how the meal was almost as if going through the motions , but no real interest and no response or follow up to our comments. Will not return in a hurry"

"Restaurant was sophisticated without being stuffy, with two levels of dining. We were seated upstairs which was a bit quieter (the bar is on the main level). Our server was knowledgeable and attentive but not at all intrusive or overbearing. He made wonderful recommendations for us from the menu. We started with a calamari appetizer which was delightful. Lightly breaded, tender, and garnished with a delicious pesto. I had the grouper entree which was one of my favorite seafood meals ever! Crusted lightly with sesame seeds, moist and tender fish inside, served with perfectly prepared jasmine rice and veggies. My husband ordered the ala carte lamb chops with a side of grits - also delicious. We will look forward to our next meal here"

"Excellent restaurant. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The hostess actually remembered our names as we were leaving which adds a personal touch. We will eat here again and I will recommended it to anyone going to Savannah.
The only issue that we had was that I used Google Maps to get directions to Sapphire Grill and Google had the address a block down the street from where the actual restaurant was located."

"If I lived in Savannah, I would be a regular at this wonderful restaurant.

Our host noted that I prefer a quiet table, so he showed us to a nice table on the third floor of the restaurant. There, only couples or quiet groups were present. Truly, it was perfect!
