"So expensive and the food was sad and depressing. My boyfriend ordered the quiche, he said "it tastes like nothing" my eggs Benedict was badddd. It was like Denny's but worse.
The plaza itself is gorgeous but has a sad over run by tourist over the years, high turn over feel. The service was apathetic and just sad. The waiters were bummed. And it showed."

"A couple of us decided to have afternoon tea at the plaza but the experience is not what we're used to. As serious tea drinkers with a love of small sandwiches, dresses and booze we've had our fair share of high teas across London, Sydney, Singapore and Aberdeen. We had high hopes. The room is pretty but cold, I kept my jacket on. The food was average and had obviously been sitting out awhile as the bread was hardening. We were kept waiting for 20mins before being seated and service didn't improve nor did this seem to be below standard for the staff which @$50 min pp was sloppy. For those use who enjoy a formal tea this isn't it."

"High Tea at The Plaza in NYC is something to be done once for the ambiance, décor and to say you did it. The ambiance and piano are wonderful. Service is good. Food is OK. Deserts and the tea itself are best. Very pricey but if you are a bucket list kind of person or enjoy formal tea, you will enjoy,"

"We enjoyed high tea so much it felt like we had steped back in time to an era where the grace and elegance of afternoon tea was a given. Taking that small period of your day to relax and enjoy the company of someone special while participating in a time honored tradition! Thank you to the staff at the Palm Court for making our experience even better than we imagined!"

"High Tea at the Plaza -- The food was divine. Every sandwich, scone, and dessert was delicious and gorgeous. The ambience and decor was elegant. The service was very good when present. A few times, staff would disappear for awhile and it was hard to get the attention of a waiter if we needed something or had a question. But that last issue could be due to the fact that we arrived just before 5pm and while they were happy to serve us, tea seating ends at 5pm. It was my mother's birthday and they brought her a beautiful plate with happy birthday written on it - a lovely touch."

"We enjoyed a Mother's Day breakfast in the Palm Court dining room at the Plaza Hotel. It was relaxing and enjoyable from start to finish. I ordered Classic Eggs Benedict and my husband ordered Mushroom Benedict and a side of bacon. We shared the sweet roll basket. It was a special treat! Last fall we had Afternoon Tea there and it was wonderful."

"The Plaza used to be an amazing place to go to brunch on Mother's Day. The food selection was incredible. Mothers were giving roses. It was magical. My family continues to go there out of tradition. But this year was incredibly disappointing. The "buffet" was pathetic. Even last year you had a dessert buffet that was quite lovely, though not of the caliber it once was. More importantly, the service was atrocious, especially considering that most of the people in the room were doing the buffet. It took forever for us to receive our food. We didn't receive a bread basket. After our food was taken away we waited around for 15-20 minutes thinking they'd bring a dessert menu or offer us coffee. Instead they unceremoniously brought the check."

"As a special treat we thought we would have brunch at the Palm Court. Our European hostess brought us to our table, gave us the menus and we thought everything would be nice. We had a hapless waiter who never offered us water, never brought bread to the table and when our cold coffee arrived there were no spoons to be found. He disappereaed ,so we asked the hostess for spoons. She asked our wiater to bring us spoons . "We don't have any spoons" he replied . Unbelievable. The hostess assured us the Plaza did indeed posses silverware. He returned with soup spoons for our coffee. Unbelievable in such an establishment. We had to keep asking other waiters to refill water. It felt more like a days work than an enjoyable brunch. Food very average."

"When we arrived, the front greeter asked us to wait for table to be ready. However, we waited for 20 minutes, noting that there are several tables empty and ready to be seated, and still the greeter did not come back to seat us. We simply waited 20 minutes for no reason. During the meal, it took me 5 minutes to get the waiter's attention to refill coffee. At a restaurant of this price range and history, I expect a much more proactive service but service was really at the minimal. I would not return to that restuarant again for brunch even for another special occasion."

"Disappointing so so service no spoons for the jams had to ask for to clear plates. the venue is lovely and also famous the loprobably resting on past laurels and know have people coming through the door for the experience. Would be interesting to know how many returners.. Expensive for amount did give polite feedback but nothing done. So can say been to the plaza for tea but won't go again. Go to jean George's for late lunch instead!"

"Iconic setting in a historic hotel. Nice atmosphere. Food was ok - nothing special it's more about the setting. Beware though 6 of us met for Sunday brunch - 4 ate from the buffet 2 from the menu. 1 person who ate from the menu also ate a small pastry from a plate on our table belonging to a person who ate from the buffet. They tried to charge us $14 for a pastry basket. So they watch what you eat!"

"The tea was of good quality. The canapes were quite adequate as well, and the selection rather diverse. However, the service was very poor, and, overall, the restaurant looks really worn down! The crockery was chipped, and the silver serving pot peeling! The wait staff had no idea that it's my friend's birthday (I specified it in online booking). We got a patronizing pep talk from the MD/host about the times, and bookings routines, which was an unnecessary display of not-very-positive attitude. They didn't remove the third setting until we asked them TWICE. We had to ask TWICE for unused dishes to be removed, and to get milk to go with out tea. When it arrived, the tea was not hot any more. Over all - the service was far from satisfying!"

"Everything was wonderful with the exception of the ...TEA! The tea was served in pots that did not retain the heat. Had to ask the waiter to re-supply us in order to have decent cup of tea. The food was good, desserts rich and the ambiance... Well, it's the plaza."

"The experience at the Plaza is meant to be a special one - it just for us was underscored by a rude server who clearly hates his job. It was exceptionally disappointing as my Husband and I were taking his Mother out for an early Mother's Day Tea while she was in town visiting.
We left disappointed and don't plan to return - It's a pricey experience that should be lovely and seamless. Most importantly the service should be impeccable. What was most disappointing was that as we were leaving we were asked how everything was and when we shared that our server was very rude it was explained that they were sorry and that it was a known issue. Just not acceptable."

"Of course have heard of Sunday brunch at the Plaza for years, and in Jan 2013 was able to make the time for it. The service was the worst that I've had in many, many years of dining out. It wasn't that it was too crowded for staff to keep up - they just seemed completely indifferent. Food was only average, and the room itself is beautiful, but frankly not worth the frustration of being largely ignored by the wait staff."

"We dressed up, as befitting the Hotel's earlier status, but others weren't vetted for apparel. To add to the pop culture vibe, we were treated to tour groups peering at us and the dreadful picture of Eloise displayed in the hall.
The whole experience would only have been worth the hefty price if the ambiance had stayed first class. Alas, it didn't. When an icon becomes a "pop" icon, it's passe."

"If you are an afternoon tea connoisseur you may be disappointed in the Palm Court. Although the restaurant was very beautiful and the tea itself was good quality we found some staff to be inattentive, sloppy & lazy. When a waiter was asked if our table was ready we were met with a sullen experience followed by a shrug of the shoulders. It would have been comical had it been anywhere else but the Plaza. Another waiter had difficulty in the simple task of pouring water - twice he managed to slop it over the side of the glass onto our table with no apology or attend to mop up. Do not expect to find finesse at this so called 5* establishment. Very disappointing & horrendously overpriced for the experience."

"From the Maitre' D taking his time to acknowledge us - 3-4 minutes with no one else around - to the less than elegant tea service dishware and NO Silver teapot? The Palm Court is now a "plain Vanilla" experience. The old Grand Lady of Tea is no longer. I will not go back. There are so many other places in NYC that still consider afternoon tea an elegant experience complete with appropriate silver and china - why compromise?"

"Awful terrible service. Went with high expectations. Our waiter was terrible and completely ignored us. I actually had to get up from our table at least 3x and explained nicely that he needed to come and check on us. I still left the minimum 15% tip but I am never going back. The food was really good, top, but just trying to get fed was the problem."

"The Palm Court may have had its day. It was understaffed, and the high tea service perfunctory. When we arrived, the host was nowhere to be seen. When he did return, he promptly departed again for parts unknown, leaving new arrivals to stand around. When he finally rerturned, we were seated. Our orders were taken promptly enough, and the tea was out in about 10 minutes. The pots were plunked on the table (apparently, unlikely any half decent tea seervice in London, their waiters do not pour even your first cup), and the waiter departed. Well over 30 minutes later, the trays of food came. The servings were paltry and the scones were stone cold. No replenishments of even hot water were offered. The bill was huge My advice, don't bother."

"We were so excited about our special "Birthday Tea" unfortunately, our server was not excited about waiting on us at all! So much so that is almost ruined our time. After complaining to the hostess and restaurant manager, we did not feel very comfortable with something be done on our behalf. In fact a gratuity was added to my bill without my permission! However, food was great and it's The Plaza so we made the best of it."

"The ambiance is elegant with all the waving palms, flattering lighting, & lovely piano music, but afternoon tea was not remarkable--soggy cucumber sandwiches & too much chocolate. Tea was bright & flavorful(Earl Grey), but brought to table pre-brewed instead of letting patrons brew their own--not good. Tea selections were minimal as were the few sets of food choices. I recommend this venue for a leisurely afternoon and for bringing children enchanted with Eloise. However, for serious afternoon tea connoisseurs, it does not hold a candle to Brown's Hotel in London. Very pricey."

"A wonderful experience so say you've had "Tea at the Plaza". The ambiance is outstanding, and the service what you would expect from such an establishment - sharp, courteous, professional, with attention to detail. You never really know your server is there until you need him, and he knows you need him a moment before you do! If you've had tea at such establishments as London Ritz or London Dorchester, you'll miss the ability to select your deserts from a tray / trolley selection, and may be a little disappointed in the scones - they are small and dry. The sandwiches were outstanding, a more creative selection than I've had before - and I'd have willingly traded some of the deserts for an extra sandwich! All in all a must have experience."
