"I was in town for a conference and walked over a mile to the restaurant from my hotel - it was worth every step. I had a gin & tonic to start, nothing extraordinary. But the bartender was also the one shucking the oysters and they had some from both west and east coasts. I tried two of each of the four total types of oysters and loved every single one. I also tried the beef tartare BLT. It was deconstructed and not as tasty as the oyster, but they had set the bar high. Next time perhaps I'll try the schnitzel, which was my second choice that night. I wish I lived closer."

"J'ai pris l'assiette de pétoncles, qui étaient cuits à la perfection: croustillants à l'extérieur et moelleux à l'intérieur. La sauce était légère et très goûteuse. Mon conjoint a pris le flétan avec une sauce vichy, il était également parfaitement réussi. Nous avons partagé un ananas cuit au four pendant 2 heures à la dulche de leche, accompagné d'une boule de crème glacée au rhum et d'une madeleine à la noix de coco. C'était tout simplement divin! Même les deux espressos étaient hors du commun. Il est clair que nous y retournerons lors d'une escapade à Montréal. Nous recommandons le Liverpool House pour l'excellent service, l'ambiance et la nourriture hors du commun, mais servie sans flafla!"

Meaning that first time patrons have to get up and go to the back room to read the menu and ask server for help if their French is not sufficient.
Portions too large. When we asked for schnitzel doggy bag. Neither bag nor schnitzel ever arrived.

"The decorations and ambiance of the place was nice. What I didn't like was that the menu was on a big board - since quite a few of us were in a section where we couldn't see the menu (not to mention the place was very poorly lit) we all had to stand up and hover over the diners next to the chalkboard. This made it uncomfortable for us as well as the diners. When asking for opinions on the wine list, the waiter only spoke to one person, and since it was quite loud I myself had no idea what was suggested or the attributes of the wines suggested. When asked for a rare steak, the steak came out dry and medium. The scallops were too salty as well, despite it being perfectly cooked."

"My girlfriend and I went here for dinner on our 1 year anniversary and everything was fantastic. Our waiter could answer any question without a moments hesitation, the food was spectacular and the atmosphere was second to none. I didn't know what to expect going in to it (although I knew Liverpool House had a good reputation) but I never thought it would blow me away like this.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to have delicious food, fantastic cocktails and a great setting, all in one of Montreal's best neighborhoods."

"This was our second visit to Liverpool House and we were disappointed with the inconsistency of the meals. They keep the same items on the chalk board but change preparation . So on our first visit we really enjoyed what we had and upon our second visit ordered the same items only to find that
they'd changed the preparation method and ingredients. At these prices you expect a certain level of consistency. The raw oysters were so small they were almost transparent. An 800$ tab for 4 people for a meal that was not up to par. I'll give Joe Beef a try next time. Hopefully we'll hit it on a good night"

"Food is delicious and staff is very polite and helpful. The place is a small so you're often sitting pretty close to the table next to you. If you want a romantic/intimate atmosphere for a date, then this isn't the place to go. It can also get pretty loud, which makes it difficult to communicate with your company. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and size of the portions. You will definitely leave this place satisfied."

"Liverpool House has unique French fare that will captivate the adventurous ones and seduce the novice. The knowledgeable staff will advice you through the chalkboards fresh offerings. We enjoyed our Magret au poivre, so tender, prepared perfection. The Cote de Boeuf was out of this world. Don't miss out on the phenomenal charcuterie (oh and the dreamy parfait foie gras!) Overwhelmed by the foodie experience we left the wine selection to our server and successfully done. LH offers an abundance of decadent savory selections and their desserts are equally wondrous. It's difficult to leave room with the abundance of housemade delish, but well worth it. Reservations, a must! Simply the best ~ Oysters, Charcuterie, Boeuf, French Wine, Dessert."

"The Liverpool House is very similar to Joe Beef, yet different. I prefer the decor of the Liverpool House. The menu is also similar. A signature dish, the lobster spaghetti, is offered in both restaurants. It is a very good dish, but I expected more for the price ($49) and also because it is a signature dish. I reallly liked the gravlax salmon entrée. The maple donuts were filling and very sweet, as you'd expect.
I was alone. Eventhough I had reserved quite in advance they sat me at the bar, which is both good and bad. Initially I was dissapointed because at the bar you simply stairt at the bottles and can take a small peek in the kitchen. As the restaurant filled up and became more vibrant, I felt more part of the action."

"This was a great choice for our big night out in Montreal. I had the lobster spaghetti and my husband had the steak. Both were fantastic. We had the smoked mozzarella over smoked meat as an appetizer. It wouldn't have been something I would have picked myself. Our waitress recommended it and was it delicious. There is an extensive wine list with knowledgeable servers to go with it. The atmosphere was shabby-chic but comfortable. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in town."

"From the owners of the renowned Joe Beef, liverpool house has great food. The menu changes daily with a few staples that are often revisited with a new twist. The food is worth the price, which could be considered on the high side at around 100$ per person for a two course meal (including tips and taxes). Somehow I never manage to come out of that place under 150$+ per person. The waiters will push 200$ bottles of wine and 32$ glasses of armagnac like its nothing, so be careful when ordering drinks because they can easily exceed the cost of your food.
Food wise, in the upper "bistro chic" category, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Montreal. Highly recommended, easier to book than Joe Beef, just keep an eye on that wallet."

"We definitely recommend this spot and it was worth the wait. Could not get a reservation before 4 weeks. The food was fantastic and service outstanding. The restaurant is not that big and there were lots of people and it was quite noisy but the food made everything worthwhile. You have to go!!!!"
