"This was a great Mother's Day outing for me and my kids! (teenage age). Everything was wonderful. My only criticism was when I took my last sip of my delicious pinot to get a mouth full of the dregs of the bottle (not a little...a whole mouth full). I mentioned it to our waitress who was so apologetic and offered me a fresh glass. I couldn't take her up on the offer since I had an hour drive. But I was a bit disappointed to watch her tell the manager, who I could tell, blew her off. Otherwise a perfect evening!"

"Service was really bad. We waited for our food for 45 mins. Once it came the waiter never checked back with us.
We had to flag down the bar back to get us our check. We sat for a few more minutes and at 2:50 they turned up the music so loud we knew they wanted us to leave."

"I both read and heard the place was "trendy," so I thought it would be just ok. Well, from the gentleman who sat us to the server and food runners I was wrong...it was more than ok! We really enjoyed the place and would recommend UW to anyone listening.
My only criticism is the Mac and Cheese was not something I would order again and the valet parking was $6.00 (it's against my grain to pay for parking, let alone $6!)."

"The food was excellent. The service was helpful and good except our entrees came within minutes of our appetizers so that felt a bit rushed. It's got a nice ambiance and, at least the night we were there, all their bottles of wine were half off which made it easy to order one. But, given how full the restaurant was-- even on a Tuesday night-- noise was an issue and it made comfortable conversation difficult. So if you're looking for a happening place to bring a date where you won't feel pressured to talk, I'd say this is a great choice. If, however, you're interested in enjoying a good meal while catching up with friends-- and don't want to feel like you need to shout to be heard-- I'd look elsewhere."

"Chef Nick's new warm goat cheese appetizer is off the charts! It's very rich -- good to share (though we each had our own without regret). I already knew when I walked in that I'd be having the flatiron steak and a cosmo martini, and so I did. HEAVEN. In some eateries when you order the same dish several times over a period of time, you find it may have changed or been prepared differently. But not here. The cuisine is not only divine but consistent, which is very important - especially for locals who dine here often and want their expectations met. For me, the flatiron steak (on a bed of warm bacon bleu cheese slaw) is completely addicting. Chef sent over some bread pudding in honor of my husband's 60th birthday. Murder at first bite."

"My dinner experience at Upper West would have been among the best were it not for the deafening noise, due to much-too-high music volume. All the dishes my guests and I had ordered were excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly. The prices for both food and beverages were reasonable. I'll go back again and I'll go back more frequently if they decide to turn the music down. "A young and very noisy crowd. Very loud room. Nice happy hour with odd drinks; some of them work. Wednesday prix fixe is a good deal: any appetizer, any entree, and any dessert for $33. An order of hummus and a short rib is $35 by itself."

"Food was great. We got the filet and the burger, and they were cooked & paired perfectly with the sides...I especially love the bacon in the mashed potatoes!
Tuesdays if half off bottles of wine. Great deal.
Restaurant is a little loud, which isn't ideal if you are looking to have a quiet conversation.
Service was legit. Everything was coursed perfectly,and came out as expected, but it did not have much of a personal-vibe at all. Which is good and bad depending how you look at it. On one hand I am there to talk person/people in my party, but on the other hand I still want to feel like I'm not just another table.
In all, I am glad we tried it. I would eat there again, but with so many other choices in SM, it might be awhile"

"Don't go in there expecting to be able to carry on a conversation. The waiter was o.k., kindof a snob, but the food made up for it. Great wine list and interesting happy hour drinks and menu, regular menu is fun too. Great mac and cheese."

"With their tasty drinks, happy hour deals, and decadent fries, Upper West has all the ingredients of a successful restaurant in this part of town... but it's their bacon sandwich that I dream about. There are also great sides and vegetarian options. We've been twice in three days and are already planning the next trip. The service was stellar, but we got the same great waiter both nights so maybe it's just that Clay is awesomeness walking. Everyone else was friendly and welcoming as well, so it's more like this place has a great vibe and that always attracts good staff. Street parking under the freeway or by valet if that's all gone."

"We have eaten here now 5 times and each time the food has been superb, delicious and well proportioned across their menu. We have no hesitation taking friends or inviting out of town guests to dine here. In spite of the vibrant ambiance and open style seating it still allows one to have a feeling of privacy and relative intimacy while dining. Love the food, the service, the style and the reasonable pricing at Upper West."
