"We're long time Matthew Medure fans, having dined there the first time on Matthew's opening night. The restaurant started the fine dining scene in Jacksonville -- no small feat. But, the meal we had last week was off the mark. My wife's divers scallops and sweet potatoes were excellent, but my gray grouper was overcooked, and the corn stuff (don't know what else to call it) it was lying in was uninspired. The charcuterie plate we started with was excellent in taste, but for the money, very stingy. The soufflé to finish was chewy.
Our benchmark for an expensive meal has always had two factors: (1) we couldn't make it at home, or; (2) we couldn't do the dish as well. This meal missed on both criterion. We could have done it better."

"I looked at the new summer menu with some concern (why fix what isn't broken?) but once more had a terrific dining experience.
We enjoyed the pork shoulder and rack of lamb entrees with fried brussel sprouts. Dessert was a key lime preparation that was delicious. We shared a nice bottle of Stolphman Syrah with the meal."

"Party of five picky eaters with not a single complaint. Food was outstanding. My well-done beef tenderloin really was both well-done and tasty. Service was impeccable. Water glasses were kept filled, which is a big plus. The capstone was the Meyer lemon souffle with raspberry creme anglaise. Who knew that Meyer lemon and raspberry flavors would meld so well together? A bit dressy, a bit pricy, and totally worth it."

"When you walk into Matthews you know you are in for a fabulous experience! The bar area is bright and energetic. The interior of the dining area is chic and romantic complete with a chef's table at their open kitchen. Our waiter was attentive, first asking if we were celebrating a special occasion. The menu had the best local and innovative offerings each category had to offer. I had Arctic Char - grilled perfectly with a basil pistachio topping. My friend had Diver Scallops with sweet potato, which were sweet and cooked perfectly. We had Brussel Sprouts as a side - fried and topped with Parmesan Cheese...delicious! I know we will return to Matthews when we return to Jacksonville to have their six course tasting menu with wine pairing."

"We came to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and chose the Chef's Tasting Adventure. We were pleasantly greeted and seated and everyone who came in contact with us knew it was our anniversary and made us feel special. After a brief discussion of any dietary concerns (I dont do cheese) we were pleasantly surprised by both the diversity and uniqueness of the food as well as the spot on wine pairings that accompanied each course. My birthday is just around the corner and I cant wait to return to explore the rest of the menu!"

We had diver scallops, veal scallopini and pork chop for mains and all were prepared perfectly.
The banana creme brûlée was disappointing. Not bad just not like creme brûlée except for the brûlée.

"Once again, Matthews provided an enjoyable dining experience. We dined with friends who were having dinner at Matthews for the first time. They agreed the food was top notch ... the black olive bread rolls, the different main courses of beef, veal, pasta and the Char were delicious. The wine was full bodied and accompanied the meal well. Our dinner companions especially enjoyed the chocolate torte dessert. The service was attentive as usual and they paid heed to our special need to finish in time to attend a concert."

"Our visit to Matthew's could not have been better. Kenny was our waiter, assisted by Jason. The two of them saw to our every need and provided a very memorable occasion. We had a 6:00 PM reservation because we were headed downtown to a play at the Moran Theater. When we told Kenny our plans, he responded: "What time would you like to leave for the play?" We responded with 7:15 - 7:20 PM. He said simply "No problem", and he was correct. He and Jason expedited our meal, served it very elegantly and met us at the door on our way out at 7:20, thanking us for dining with him at Matthew's. Food was excellent, service was impeccable and they absolutely assured we would be a repeat customer. Well done to all!!!"

"We were disappointed by Matthew's. In a word, a pretentious place with no idea of its identity. I think the menu was supposed to be vaguely Italian, but most of the adjectives were in French. Frankly, all I remember about dinner was that I was served various pieces of foie gras (my wife got a proper slice) and the wine I picked needed at least ten more years before being fit for human consumption (they had no red wine balloons--nobody in Jacksonville did--, so it might have opened up a teensy bit more had there been one); this one's down to me. As usual, the waitron assumed utter ignorance on our part; to be fair, to judge from the other, er, casually attired patrons, that may have been playing the percentages."

"I have been informed that through the years, Matthews has had it's ups and downs for dining experiences on a whole. However, for the last 5 years my husband and I have held Matthews to a different standard than any other restaurant in Florida and have never been disappointed until last night. Apparently in our absence, Matthew, has decided to take what was an entirely special experience in dining and make it, well, ordinary. From the moment I spied the youth in the kitchen to the entirely ordinary wine menu... I was confounded. This was not the Matthews I remembered. Then the menu was presented and after taking one look I knew, this is not the same restaurant. In fact, Matthews was always special and there was nothing special here..."

"I tried the Chef's Tasting Menu this time which is six courses. It was a nice way to try lots of different foods but I was thoroughly stuffed. Next time, I would save money and do it without the wine pairings. None of the pairings really impressed me. The food was very good, especially the duck confit with the risotto and the goat cheese ravioli. My husband was anxious to get the foie gras again but said it wasn't as good as last time. Still highly recommended for a special occasion. Pavel is a great server."

"The bartender here is an absolute genius! But he doesn't like to tell you what's in your drink so you could make it at home. The table service was absolutely perfect. I had the delicious foie gras appetizer. Here vegetables are ordered separately, and you really need to: My lamb shank was literally a large cut of meat on a plate with a few onion rings slung over the bone -- a cute presentation, but you can only eat so much meat, no matter how tasty, and I wish my waiter had urged me to order veggies. The ambiance is a stylish posh atmosphere, and though there were plenty of full tables it didn't feel crowded or loud. I would definitely come here for the food or to hang in the hip bar with friends."

"I have long considered Matthews the best in fine dining in the Jacksonville area, but my last trip there was the first time I have not been blown away. Maybe it was the large/loud business party that was seated next to us, but of the 7 times I've been to Matthews this was the first time me not my wife was wowed. There wasn't a chefs specially prepared appetizer on the house for the night not a palet cleanser like usual. The food was still good, just not great and on the same level that we have come to expect from Matthews."

"This was hands down my best dining experience yet! Everything was on point from the greeting to the end. The timing of the courses was perfect and everything tasted amazing! I am so glad that I chose Matthews for my boyfriend's Birthday dinner. We were even given a birthday card signed by everyone one who we encountered that night during our dinner.
