"We had a lovely evening at Matthew's. The menu was original and creative with reasonable prices for the high quality of the food. The service was outstanding, attentive without being obtrusive. And it's located in a charming section of Jacksonville. We recommend it highly."

"The food was fine, but it wasn't anything particularly special. It isn't worth what they charge for it. They have a very extensive wine list with pretty reasonable prices. Service seemingly started out fine but quickly became terrible ... from very poor timing of courses to the incredibly irritating extremely long wait to get the check and pay."

"It seems to me that things aren´t running smoothly when Matthew isn´t present. Just one example: we had to ask for bread, but it arrived only after the second course. Obviously they simply didn´t prepare it early enough.
The overall service was good this time, however it always gets slower to the end of the stay.
Anyway it´s still the best place in the area and the food was very good again, but there is definitely room for improvement."

"Dinner at Matthew's is always a special treat -- the food was amazing as usual. Service for this dining experience was a bit off. One of our party ordered the Chef's menu with wine pairing and a wine pairing was inadvertently skipped. Overall we had a great time though and highly recommend Matthew's."

"The night was fabulous. The food was great, and for the price well worth it, since the quality of food was outstanding. I especially loved the Kalamata olive bread, and the sprimp appetizer. I thought the steaks were over priced at 38, but will try fish next time. Very good overall, great for a special occasion."

"The food was good, but it did not blow us away. Cons: Initially, we waited a bit too long to be greeted by our waitress and for our cocktails. I ordered a Lobster Bisque and got an Asparagus soup instead. When I brought it to the waitress attention, she said she would remove it from the bill but also said that Lobster Bisque wasn't on the a la cart menu but on the tasting menu which wasn't true. Pros: Valet parking(great in the rain). It has a nice ambiance. Food is good and they have some things on the menu that you wouldn't necessarily find in other restaurants. Their cocktail prices are very reasonable. Didn't try any dessert, but it sounded very tasty."

"Although my wife has dined at Matthews numerous times, this was my first visit. It lived up to its reputation. The menu was thoughtfully developed that evening with what I felt was an excellent variety showcasing a great cross section of techniques and talents. The service was phenomenal and was highlighted by the waiter's considerable knowledge across the spectrum of gastronmic topics. He made the night even more enjoyable through his recommendations, insight into ingredients and methods and his notable yet appropriately reserved enthusiasm."

"Decidedly not as good as the first time. There were many contributing factors to this; for one, it was a lot busier and louder than the last time we were here. Matthew's deserves all the business it can get, but this still made the dining experience slightly intimate and "cozy". Also, I found a very tough strand of sinew in what was supposed to be a prime New York strip steak. The waiter apologized profusely and claimed that they inspected all incoming meat to ensure its quality. Somewhat disappointing. However, the service was still as excellent as possible, which was quite impressive considering that the staff had many more tables to wait this time around. I plan on coming back, hopefully to a slightly more refined experience."

"I went here for my birthday and the staff was wonderful! They went out of their way to make it a great evening for me - even presented me with a birthday card! "Went two nights in a row to take some special friends for their birthday and my mother who was in town for her belated birthday. Six different dishes between my parties over the two nights. All were excellent with very nice presentation and special subtle acknowledgement of my birthday dinners which they appreciated. Pricey, but knew that going in and will definitely go back in the future."

"It was dissapointing. I was there about a two years ago for the first time and it was the best restuarant that I had been to in my life. The service was unbelievable, but this past weekend I attended with a special someone and it was 100% opposite. We had to wait 30 minutes before the waiter even came to take our dinner order, and I had to even turn around in my chair to wave him down. there were open tables all over so they were not that busy. My dates glass remained empty for far to long. I recall the first time that I attended we had like 3 waiters all dedicated to us and this past time the guy was a slacker. Not a big deal anywhere else, but then again I dont typically spend $192.00 on dinner anywhere else."

"The food was very interesting. The cheeses made each course. They were excellent. The main course was not my favorite (beef tenderloin), but that was personal preference not because of anything to do with preparation. However, the service and presentation was impeccable and the dessert was the best I have ever had. All in all the experience was very enjoyable."

"Food was excellent, however the wait staff needed to
worry less about offering us more bread & more
about taking our order. We were seated for over
20 minutes & no one had taken our drink order.
But, we offered bread more than 6 times. We
will give Matthews another try since our meal was
top-notch. Hopefully, the wait staff was just
having an "off" night."
