Four blocks west of "The Square' tucked in the Sonoma Valley Center, Italian born chef, Gaetano Patrinostro uses a combination of the freshest local products and Italian imports to prepare authentic Italian cuisine. His pasta sauces are based on the region of origin, seafood and steaks are cooked to perfection and the desserts are not to be missed. Mamma Tanino's is an off The Square locals favorite and the at home feeling makes out of towners love this place.
"not a place you would pick without knowing where it is and having recommendation (in a strip mall), but worth the search, we have been traveling to Sonoma area at least once per year for 20 years and would rate this as one of the top spots for Italian food, wonderful people, great food and outstanding service, will be back next year, wine recommendation was right on target...great value"

"While this restaurant was not quite what I had anticipated it was still enjoyable. The food was good, the service very friendly and it was fairly priced. While there was nothing that clearly stood out the fried cheese appetizer was very good and the entrees were well prepared."

"A great neighborhood gem. The food is always excellent and the service is very good. The only drawback wehn we have been there is the noise level. If crowded it is very noisy which makes it difficult to carry on a conversation."

"An unassuming location in the corner belies a delicious meal and attentive service that felt like a quick little trip to Italy. Their bread is so flavorful you'll have a hard time not filling up on it first! I enjoyed a three-course prix fixe dinner starting with black truffle and ricotta ravioli w/parmesan cream sauce. The presentation of the four ravioli was attractive and the flavors so delicious I wanted to cut off the tiniest bites possible to make the tastes last forever. The secondi was a Pollo Valdostana which was moist and delicious and perfectly flavored with a with white wine demi sauce. I had a spumoni dessert, while a firend raved about the cannoli she selected."

"Great "off the square" spot that treats you like family. Reminds me of a small family run restaurant you would find in Italy. Tastefully done, not over done. Pasta is great, eggplant parmesan is great (lighter than you'll find anywhere else), salads are tasty!"

"We really enjoyed our meals and house wine at Mama Tanino's. Had carbonara, eggplant parm and bucatini and all 3 were delicious!! Restaurant is located in a small strip mall but easy to find. Love the authentic Italian cooking!!"

"Tucked in a little mall, the outside of Mama Tanino's is deceiving. It looks like a cafe, but once inside you find two dining rooms with wood chairs. You're a bit elbow to elbow but it adds to the camaraderie of the place. We waited a long time for our table, and even longer for the meal, but oh my gosh was it worth it. Eggplant Parmesan made from scratch. The cheese was not this rubbery pad that typically comes with the dish but easily broken through to the thin slices of eggplant below. The sauce was lovely. My husband's Petrale sole was delicate and I think anyone with a large appetite might want to consider an additional starter. We'll be back for sure. Just not on a busy Saturday."

"This was our third visit and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the bacon-wrapped scallops and the Petrale Piccata. Service was very good and the owner is a lovely hostess. We were treated with a port for desert. A nice touch."

"Although the four of us that went to dinner at Mama's live only about a mile away, this was the first time for all of us. We ALL totally enjoyed everything. Most outstanding were the polenta with mushrooms and the eggplant parmessan. Good service and definitely will go back again and again."

"This was our first visit to the restaurant and it was on Valentine's Day. The food was excellent and have no complaints abut that part of the meal. However the service was poor from start to finish. We were given the wrong items, were asked what we ordered and told our order was forgotten. Our table neighbors told us the restaurant was having a very hard time handling the crown. We were told it is not normally like this. Again fortunately the food was excellent. We will try it again to see if the service is better on a non-holiday evening."

"What a disappointing dinner. I heard wonderful things about this restaurant and it fell short. Maybe they were just too busy that night but it took us 1.5 hours to get our food. When we inquired if it was coming, our server said "sure". Overall, I should have picked somewhere else."

"Delicious Italian food!! Loved the Cesear, calamari, Carbonara and eggplant parm. All delicious!!!! The chef's wife was very personable and made us feel very welcomed. The location is not great, located in a strip mall with little charm but the food was wonderful!!"

"The food was very good, and the waitress was great. But the lighting is so bright, and tinged with a yellow cast, you feel you're in an old hospital's waiting room. Please turn down the lights and put a little candle on the table."

"We had the capellini, fettucine, veal with arthichokes, and the mixed seafood grill (special of the day) . Three of us could tell from our first bite that our food was over-salted. If that wasn't bad enough, our blonde waitress acted as if we were imposing on her time. She didn't describe any of the dishes and rattled off the specials so quickly that we had to ask her to repeat them. We asked for the dessert menu but decided not to get any. I swear she rolled her eyes as she took the menus back. I had hoped this would be local find as it's in a small shopping area off the Plaza, but we were very disappointed by the food and especially by the lack of service."
