"We loved Fried Green Tomatoes in February for a birthday celebration so wanted to bring our good friends over to try it. My husband raved about the Tortoloni so our friends had that and I repeated my order of shrimp scampi-wonderful again! The salad was so good and plenty for all,as was the bread. My husband's spicy mac 'n cheese was very good. The wine recommendation was very much to our liking. Excellent waitress and atmosphere."

"Living locally, we are fortunate to experience dining at Fried Green Tomatoes quite often, and it always keeps us coming back for more! The menu offers both small plates and exciting entrees, with most interesting starters (including its signature appetizer, Fried Green Tomatoes). On special holiday occasions, it offers a fabulous brunch buffet on Sundays which includes made-to-order omelets and carved prime rib--with sides of fresh salmon and shrimp, plus countless salads and more.
This is the restaurant that we recommend and/or to which we take visitors, as it's a "must" in the charming town of Galena. The building itself has quite a history which dates back to the days when Ulysses S. Grant lived in Galena."

"Everyone ones freezing. We were on 2nd level and I heard one person complain about it when we arrived but it never got any better. Had to eat with our coats on and we noticed we weren't the only ones that took them off and put them immediately back on. Stake was burnt on outside and not juicy and we had medium and medium well. Both had no juice left in them! My first time and I was VERY disappointed."

"The owner Fred is so welcoming - even on a very busy evening. Fried Green Tomatoes is the first place I will take visitors the first time they come to Galena. "The best restaurant in town. Petar (our server) was excellent.. He was very polite and extremely knowledgable of the menu items. We had the lasagna and the pork bucco, both of which were delicious! The small loaf of bread with Parmesean was probably the best bread we've ever had as well. Overall I'd give them a 10 top to bottom. Great food, great service- highly recommended"

"I can't say enough about this restaurant! Both the food and ambiance were amazing! I had the 4oz filet done medium and the shrimp as my main course. It was truly outstanding. The salad came out in a big bowl that was shared by everyone at the table. It was very fresh and the raspberry vinegerette dressing was delicious as was the bread which accompanied it. I plan on going back to Fried Green Tomatoes in June on a girls weekend I am planning. Do make reservations if you plan on eating here because they were crowded. I promise you will not be disappointed with the food, service or the ambiance here."

"Fried Green Tomatoes is the popular spot to grab a bite in Galena, but I believe the hype outweighs the quality, and the prices are a little high. The food was definitely average-good, but it was not amazing. I would not say this is a must-stop restaurant in town.
The waitress was very energetic and friendly, very helpful. She corrected a couple people in my group on how they should like their food cooked (steak, seafood) which I thought was a little inappropriate, but I believe she was honestly trying to help. Because we were there celebrating my birthday, they brought out an ENORMOUS ice cream dessert on the house! That was very kind and much appreciated. Delicious ice cream!"

"The service and decor were nice but the food was underseasoned and
the flavors not as vibrant as I would have liked. The mango salsa
tasted mostly of tomatoes which did not accentuate the crab cakes

"Another great visit to Fried Green Tomatoes. This was the first time we brought our college aged daughter along. Apetizers were as expected, entrees were great. My Fillet was slightly under-done from the "medium" that I ordered, but I didn't mind a bit. The creme brulee capped it all off nicely."

"It was our first time there and we asked the waiter a few questions about the menu and he didn't seem very knowledgable at all. I expected them to know a little more since we were spending quite a bit of money. Appetizer was ok, dinner was good, the dessert was poor-tiramasu was dry. Overall not the worst restaurant I've been to but definetly not a repeat."

"We had been to the old location ten or so years ago and thought it would be great to try it again. Well, it was fantastic. We had a wonderful time with friends we don't get to see very often. Our table was ready when we arrived on a busy Friday night and we were seated in moments. Service was very friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was wonderful and we all had a great time. Unfortunately, it was a destination event and we are not able to go to Fried Green Tomatoes but once every few years. We can't wait to get back."

"I took my girlfriend to Galena for a nice little birthday weekend getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of Chicago. We decided to try Fried Green Tomatoes, which seemed like the place to go according to reviews. I loved the setting since it seemed like it was built within an old church, with stained glass windows and all. It was a very romantic atmosphere with the classy decor, and the waiting staff was very quick, responsive, and proactive. The staple fried green tomato appetizers were not disappointing, especially since I am not a huge tomato fan. The family style salad with a creamy strawberry vinaigrette (I believe) was also very good. However, the pasta for the lobster ravioli was a little chewy, but very tasty."

"We came to celebrate our Valentine's Day Dinner and had never been before. The food was amazing! We were set in an area where there were two large parties and they were very loud and rambunctious. Unfortunately, it was quite annoying since, as stated, we were there for a romantic dinner experience. Not a huge problem- I just wish there would've been a separate area for groups larger than 4 (both the other parties had at least 8 people, and one party had children.) Out waitress was nice. We'll definitely go back, but only for special occasions."
