Angus'
Angus' is a one hundred-sixty seat, full-service eatery located in the heart of New York City's bustling Times Square. Given its proximity to several Broadway theaters, the pre-show dinner seating is the restaurant's busiest, but before or after is the time to take advantage of the restaurant's charm for either a relaxing lunch or dinner without the pressure of an impending curtain. Additionally, the restaurant offers several attractive features including a bargain prix fixe lunch menu, an irresistible late night snack menu and the house specialty: a porterhouse steak for two which includes unlimited wine by the glass if you order it after 8pm. Brunch is served all weekend long and private parties/special events of all shapes and sizes are willingly and expertly accommodated.

"I love tourists, primarily because NYC's financial health heavily depends on their active presence. But, at times, living in a touristy area here could also mean it is hard for us to find "neighborhood sanctuaries" where we can just throw back and relax--particularly over the summer months.
Luckily, Angus' offers such an atmosphere. Despite the location, it isn't a tourist trap and it offers a calm and relaxed environment in which to dine. The food they serve is actually quite good, the menu is sufficiently interesting and varied, and the service, too, is rather consistent. This is among the best places for weekend brunches.
All in all, I am very happy that Angus' exists in my neighborhood."

"The menu has a wide range, from burgers to steak and seafood. The have great desserts and espresso. The service was efficient and very good. Smack, dab in the middle of the theatre district... there are must be more than 15 Broadway Theatres within a 5 minute walk of this establishment"

"Went to Angus Cafe pre-show. Very attentive staff, answered questions, unhurried. Got out with plenty of time before show. Excellent food. We had the 38 oz porterhouse steak for two with 3 sides...$79! Delicious! Recommend reservation.....not many diners when we arrived, but it was almost full when we left."

"This restraunt is in an ideal location near many Broadway theaters so it is convenient but the food is just good - nothing to write home about - service was good but it wasnt crowded when I was there so it could change- prices a little on the high side - $12 for a glass of no name pinot noir wine I thought was high- I am a New Yorker so I could have just as well gone to Sardies or Carmines which is also near by with more atmosphere and better food- would only suggest this as a last resort"

"This was a great spot to have dinner prior to our show on a Saturday night. We made reservations at 6pm and the show was at 8pm, but there was no waiting, so we had some extra time. A 6:30 reservation for an 8pm show would be plenty of time. They have a preshow special that was a smaller portion, reasonably priced, but we opted for the full size dinner since we were starving. The food was good, not great. The ambience was great, because there were 3 levels of dining, which made the experience seem more intimate because each level was not so overcrowded. Service was OK, typical New York.....you get it when the waiter gets around to it, or you ask for it....twice. Glad I went, but I don't need to go back."

"Food was very good. Everyone in the group had good quality served at good temperatures. Wine list very pedestrian and small. Bistro atmosphere was good with staff friendly.
Service was very poor. Waiter promised much, delivered little. Water was never refilled, bread never came with meal, he brought it after being reminded after everyone had finished their meal. Restaurant was not wildly busy though it was a Saturday night. Sad to see good food tarnished by poor service."

"The restaurant is convenient for the theater district but the food is awful. My hamburger was totally tasteless and small. The fries were cold and limp. My friends meals were also bad. The lamb pie was small and had no taste and the snails had no garlic. The fish and chips looked like it came out of the freezer section of your local supermarket."

"This restaurant is not very good. Food was mediocre and service pretty bad. We went there because the weather was inclement and it was located near the theatre. That would be the only positive. The restaurant was crowded and the ervice slow. They were just implementing tablets for orders. So some confusion would be expected. But my husbands entrée came with an appetizer we were going to share. Ten minutes later, when he had finished his dinner, mine came. And I had ordered a picnic platter....no cooking necessary! My husband never got the side he ordered or glass of wine. I had to ask three people for mustard. I would not recommend this restaurant at all."

"We go here often due to its convenience to the theatre district. The menu is small, but everything on it is good. The restaurant gets very noisy at dinner time, and it was very hot inside on the day of our visit. Service was initially attentive, but then it seemed that our waiter forgot about us. They have one of the best creme brûlée desserts in the city!"

"We used to love Angus McIndoe for pre-Broadway dinners. I guess the place has changed ownership...it is now Angus' Cafe Bistro and the food lacks and creativity. Ritter menu items have been removed and my $25 steak frites, while tasting OK, was thrown carelessly onto a plain white (chipped!) plate and looked, well, depressing. My husband had the short ribs, which were very fatty, and the calamari tasted frozen right out of a box. House wine was terrible. We miss the old Angus, and, sadly, have officially crossed this place off our list."

"My wife and I went to Angus' before seeing Phantom. I chose this restaurant for the historic value. It's just an iconic Broadway destination, and still draws a crowd and caters to the Broadway elite. We were actually sat in the upper room next to the window, so we had a great view of the street and the Majestic. It was also quieter up there. I had the Salmon Prix Fix dinner. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. The portion was definitely on the small side as well, but I understand this is common for the Prix Fix menu.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would go back."

"Angus is a typical theater area restaurant. Ambiance so/so. Menu is limited and while we all enjoyed our food, we were not allowed to make any substitutions. I asked for rigatoni rather than spaghetti and was told no. All appetizers, scotch eggs, warm pita with Mediterranean salad and conch chowder were all delicious.
Would recommend for a quick bite."

"We have LOVED Angus over the years...but we found the food last Saturday evening was not so terrific. My husband's dinner was not properly warmed and while we had a great visit with a table of 7 old friends, we did not find the menu particularly inspiring. Everything was OK, just not extraordinary. Nevertheless, you cannot beat the locale and ambience. Our service was good, but something was a teensy bit 'off' with the meal. Not sure why."

One disappointment: The advertising said there was an elevator, which was one of the reasons we chose Angus; we had hoped for a second-floor table--maybe overlooking the street scene--but were told the elevator goes only to the third floor, which was not open at the time. The ad should have been more detailed re elevator availability."

"Very disappointed in Angus. The restaurant has taken a downslide over the past year. The food is not consistent. Last month I had dinner with 2 others; 2 of the 3 meals had been sitting under the warming lamps. And last week I took a friend; her meal was piping hot, steam coming from the plate and my burger had obviously been sitting under the heat lamps. The kitchen needs to get it together or they're going to lose a regular customer!!!!!"

"It was disappointing. "This hot spot for a lot of Broadway types served food to us that was disappointing both in quantity and quality. The croque monsieur was not a sandwich; rather, it was one piece of bread with a thin slice of him and cheese on top, slipped under a broiler for a few minutes. The minute steak was at least one-third fat and gristle. The "jumbo" shrimp were anything but. The drinks were expensive but not generous. The decor was old and the tables were so close to each other that the wait staff constantly bumped into diners as they tried to squeeze between their chairs, often balancing precariously perched trays."

"Angus was disappointing. How? Let me count the ways: to start the water for hot tea was warm, the honey never arrived. The food was less than mediocre. The eggs angus ( which I had been looking forward to because they read delicious ) were just potato skins filled with a poached egg over watery spicy vegetables. The fried calamari tasted processed. The conch chowder was super salty and the conch was chewy. The scrambled eggs were so overcooked they were dry and had a brown crust. None of the plates were hot. The presentation was awful; like cafeteria food just slapped on a plate. I chose Angus because of the 4 star reviews I read on Menu Pages, but maybe that was past glory. I was embarrassed that my guests had to experience poor food"

"A big disappointment. I ate here with three other friends. We were excited to try Angus, hoping to enjoy a meal before a show. The atmosphere was fine...typical cafe. We were seated beside Nathan Lane's portrait. Other than the painting, not much was to our liking. Cocktails were awful and had to be sent back. Waited for our appetizer while diners that arrived after us were eating their meals. Our chewy calamari finally arrived and then shortly after so did our entrees. The salmon was just OK...nothing special, greasy soggy fish and chips (which was highly recommended by our server), and the boneless short rib was cold. We won't be back! Nathan Lane should find somewhere else to hang his painting!"

"I really liked the after-show menu and the "Late Night Snack." Angus was not very busy but still seemed cozy and welcoming. The waitstaff was great and laid back. The menu and drink prices were reasonable. I plan on returning, it was perfect for after enjoying a musical, will recommend to other Richmonders who enjoy a New York weekend."

"Outstanding wait staff and great location that's convenient to Broadway. Made reservations because we adore Nathan Lane beyond all measure, and I had learned recently that he and other equally noteworthy theatre personalities co-own the place, which made sense at the time because we had tickets that evening for "The Nance." Not without irony -- we had to leave the play at intermission because the too heavily battered Fish & Chips I ordered were not the best choice, all things considered. Also, the acoustics leave much to be desired, but that's just me. Patrons talk loudly to be heard above the din of other patrons because the place was packed on a Saturday night, so how bad could it be after all?"

"Nice atmosphere and service but the food was mediocre - and over-priced for the amount and quality.
Every dish was bland - my short ribs had no flavor and were under-cooked.
My dining partner and I were very disappointed. Sadly, it was a fun place but it's seen better days - will not be coming back."

"This is not the Angus McIndoe I have been coming to for years. They have changed their name and their menu. Gone are the comfort foods that we loved. Instead there is a very limited choice of New Age-ish Scottish fare. I was there with my elderly parents, and finding foods that they would eat. My father ended up with the "All Day Breakfast" (eggs and sausage with a side of bacon) and my mother had the chili. We were looking forward to a nice piece of meat with a salad, but the menu did not offer any selections that they would be comfortable eating.
I'm sure Angus will continue to do well, but I'll be going to Juniors, John's Pizza, Sardi's or Carmines from now on."

"ANGUS is a theatre district favorite. Unpretentious, wonderful staff, with a fantastic variety of food. Have been there many, many times through the years. Never disappointing.There is something for everyone, and the prices can fit into any budget. You can always count on seeing someone famous dining there. A must try."

"Arrived later for our reservation due to some serious traffic jams. While we had called ahead to let them know - we arrived even later than we thought. We weren't even sure we could get a table and have dinner before our show.
Our MaitreD was really nice and found us a table very quickly. We explained our situation to our server and he was there for us. Great wine, great food, great service, great atmosphere. Will def go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!"
